Yes 1)The 2) Glimmer 3) Man
I guess he was also in Executive Decision which is only 2 words also, but
the majority still falls to 3 words.
It's like John Grisham novels / Movies: The Client, The Chamber, The Firm,
The Pelican Brief (then the books, The Runaway Jury, The Partner, The Street
Lawyer) The only thing the man has written that didn't begin with the word
The is A Time To Kill, but originally he wanted to name it The Death Knell,
his editor changed it.

Keanu Reeves is reportedly on the verge of signing a
$30 million deal to appear in two sequels to his
blockbuster SF movie The Matrix. According to
Variety, Reeves could eventually make more than $100
million from his journeys into The Matrix depending on how
all three films do at the box office.
Larry and Andy Wachowski, the writer/director team who
created The Matrix, plan to shoot the two sequels back
to back during a 250-day shoot that will start in fall 2000.
Variety reports that the brothers will earn a combined $10
million for their work on the next two films.
It's also considered likely that The Matrix co-stars
Carrie-Anne Moss and Laurence Fishburne will be asked to
reprise their roles in the sequels.

Episode I also finished No. 2 in Norway and has now
earned more than $271 million in foreign theaters.

SINGAPORE (AP) - Stanley Kubrick's last film has left too many wide
eyes in Singapore's government. Officials here wants to snip part of
an orgy scene in "Eyes Wide Shut" before it releases the dark sexual
thriller to the general population. Distributor Warner Bros. has
appealed the decision by Singapore's Films and Publications
Department, saying it is under contract to show the movie in its
entirety - or not at all. "We feel it would be a real waste if people
don't get to see it here," Warner Bros. Singapore spokeswoman Li Sok
Heng said Tuesday. Warner Bros. first submitted the film's European
version, which contains full frontal nudity. When censors asked for
cuts, Warner Bros. appealed and submitted an American version, which
digitally masks the nude scenes.
Censors haven't yet responded to the U.S. version. Singapore, a
city-state known for its strict rules and conservative values,
routinely censors or bans films, publications and TV programs. "I
don't see any reason why they can't let this come in," said Dennis
Yin, film critic for Inside Singapore magazine. "It's critically
acclaimed. It's not a soft-porn flick."

LOS ANGELES (The Hollywood Reporter) - Brad Pitt is in talks to star
in "The Mexican" for producers Lawrence Bender and John Baldecchi.
The project concerns a mobster who travels to Mexico to track down a
cursed antique pistol. "The Mexican" script is currently out to
directors. No start date has been confirmed. Pitt will shoot a pair
of movies this fall: Columbia's ensemble heist picture "Diamonds" for
director Guy Ritchie and indie comedy "Waking Up in Reno" for helmer
James Gray.

LOS ANGELES (The Hollywood Reporter) - The "Star Wars" prequel topped
$300 million, "South Park" shook up the United Kingdom, Australia
embraced "Runaway Bride," Japan welcomed "Austin Powers: The Spy Who
Shagged Me," and "The Mummy" revived a slumbering Italy. Those were
the highlights of the weekend boxoffice abroad as the summer season
neared its final flourish. Because of a Monday holiday in the U.K.,
complete official boxoffice results were unavailable and some of the
reporting is based on estimates. The salty animated "South Park"
unnerved some Brits - one school changed its name to evade identity
with the film's vulgarity - but it didn't stop the Warner Bros.
release from finishing first in the market with an estimated $2.3
million at 284 screens (including previews. The French opening is
rated "very good" based on a $1 million take at 284 screens, fourth
in the market in the weekend standings. Warners estimates the
projected international cume to date, including the weekend, at about
$8.5 million.

LOS ANGELES (The Hollywood Reporter) - Alicia Witt has joined the
cast of "Cecil B. Demented" for director John Waters. Shooting begins
on location in Baltimore in September. It tells the story of indie
film director Cecil (Stephen Dorff) and his buddies, known as the
Sprocket Holes, who kidnap a glamorous Hollywood actress (Melanie
Griffith) and force her at gunpoint to star in their underground
movie. Witt plays the director's girlfriend, Cherish, a porn actress
who stars in the film the group is trying to make. In the end,
Griffith's character, who goes by the name of Honey Whitlock, is
transformed into a guerrilla filmmaking terrorist, and the Sprocket
Holes become folk heroes and media icons.

LOS ANGELES (The Hollywood Reporter) - What's the best tip to give a
valet? How about a movie deal? Disney has optioned an untitled pitch
from former Beverly Hills Hotel valet Kirk Ward and his partner
Charlie Santori for low-six figures. Ward and Santori subscribe to
the popular belief of writing what they know: The idea centers on the
hard-working men and women who park cars for a living. Ward recently
left the service business to pursue an acting career. No screenwriter
or other talent is attached.

Subject: [MV] Chill Factor
"Chill Factor," which opens today, is sort of a cross betwen "Speed" and
William Friedkin's "Sorcerer" ... but not nearly as good as either of
those fine movies. Too often, it feels like a paint-by-numbers exercise,
with Gooding and Ulrich mugging their way through a barely plausible
plotline. It's watchable, if you like this sort of thing, but you'll do
a lot better to go rent "Sorcerer," a largely overlooked thriller that
really works.

Subject: [MV] Outside Providence
"Outside Providence" touts the fact that it was scripted by the Farrelly
brothers (of "Something About Mary" fame) but it's not really in the same
league. Not even close, in fact. Basically, this is a movie about a kid
who goofs off, screws up and smokes a lot of dope. Overall it feels like
a bad episode of Fox TV's "That 70s Show," with more sex. Not the worst
movie ever, or even this year, but down somewhere in the botton 25%.

I had just finished watching Dazed and Confused with my best friend (whom
had never seen it) real late at night. We turned on SNL before I went to
take her home and there was a "news break in" about Princess Diana getting
in a car wreck, and we thought it was a comedy sketch (although not that
"funny!"). Only later did we realize it was for real! So now I have one of
those "where I was when I found out" moments.

You gotta admire a movie's guts where they kill off one the second billed
actor right away like that. Very cool. And, the commercials, when it came
out, made him look like he was the star of it, too.

Subject: [MV] Movie Theatre Costs
I have been sitting on the sidelines reading everyone's comments with
interest. I manage a small theatre in a small town. In two weeks my
theatre will be celebrating it's 51st anniversary. I am glad to see that
some people know about how the ticket prices are divided up. But for
some small companies the concession prices are too. We have a contract
that will not expire for another few years with a concession company.
They dictate what we can sell, what we have to charge and they take a
good chunk of the money. At the beginning of our contract it was much
more lucrative for us, but now it is not.
Just My two cents - Gillian

(AP) - This year, as always, the Toronto International Film Festival
will devote its opening night "gala" to a Canadian release: Atom
Egoyan's "Felicia's Journey," to be released in the United States in
November. Meanwhile, dozens of other Canadian films will never make
it across the border. Toronto is now host to one of the industry's
most important festivals, with local talent faithfully showcased. But
Canada still has no real identity or appeal for filmgoers in the
United States. Many artists - Ivan Reitman, Jim Carrey, Dan Aykroyd -
end up in Hollywood, and the few successful ones who stay behind -
like Egoyan or David Cronenberg - are rarely thought of as Canadian.
"When a Canadian film does come out in the states, it's just seen as
some odd little independent film. 'Where does it come from?' They
place it as an odd little film from America," said festival director
Piers Handling. "Obviously, American films have conquered the
marketplace. And there seems to be a lack of curiosity in the U.S.
about other cultures."

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Susan Sarandon is a flaky mom on the road, while
Jodie Foster gets to know the king. Emily Watson pines in poverty,
while Melanie Griffith goes loopy in the Deep South. A suicidal
Winona Ryder gets shipped to the asylum, while Angelina Jolie plays
detective doppelganger for a paralyzed male cop. The fall film season
is at hand, and it promises an interesting crop of strong, eccentric
female roles that range far beyond the Hollywood standard of women as
"the girlfriend" or looking to land a man. But it's not necessarily a
"to-die-for" season for women on screen. Rather, it's a continuation
of a gradual move toward more films that present women as real,
full-blown people, as opposed to eye candy for male leads.
-=> * <=-
VENICE, Italy (AP) - Venice may be the grand old lady of film
festivals, but she showed her mettle Wednesday, opening with a jumbo
jolt of Hollywood star power and sheer sex appeal: Tom Cruise and
Nicole Kidman in "Eyes Wide Shut." The tale of a marriage rent by
jealousy and sexual obsession is the final work of renowned director
Stanley Kubrick. He died on March 7, just days after finishing the
film. "Kubrick's movie showed us the way to go," said director Emir
Kusturica, the head of the Venice jury. "He showed us that cinema is
still art." As a special tribute to Kubrick, Venice is screening
"Eyes Wide Shut" at all three of its 56-year-old festival's main
venues.
And audiences in Venice and elsewhere in Europe get to see the
original version - without the digitally-added figures that obscured
nudity in an orgy scene to appease the censors who rate films for
American audiences. At a news conference before the premiere, Cruise,
Kidman and producer Jan Harlan eulogized Kubrick as not only a great
director, but also as a smart, sensitive, funny man.

LOS ANGELES (The Hollywood Reporter) - It's film festival season
again. And perhaps the most anti-Hollywood of these events is the
Telluride Film Festival, which opens Friday and features a David
Lynch retrospective. Planners generally don't announce the lineup
until the night before the festival. But attendees should expect a
heavy concentration of Asian and Latin American films thanks to the
preferences of the event's guest director: internationally acclaimed
opera and theater director Peter Sellars. "(Sellars) brings a huge
interest in the cinema of Asia and Latin America. These movies may
not be new, but they are not well-known (in the United States)," said
Tom Luddy, who shares festival directing chores with Bill Pence.
Luddy, Pence and James Card founded the event 26 years ago. With
attendance expected to hit 3,000-plus, the Telluride festival has
gained a rep as a haven for film buffs. Nearly half of the event's
program is dedicated to retrospectives and revivals, including silent
films.

LOS ANGELES (The Hollywood Reporter) - Apparently, those who
discovered the lost "Blair Witch" film footage have been holding out
on us. But starting Wednesday, Internet users can view what's being
promoted as "newly discovered" footage belonging to the makers of
hugely profitable Artisan release "The Blair Witch Project." It's all
part of two movie-marketing schemes involving Amazon.com, the largest
retailer on the Web. At http://www.amazon.com/blairwitch, Web surfers
can view via software provided free by RealPlayer several minutes of
footage not used in the film or in the upcoming video, which is
scheduled for release in about seven weeks. The "Blair Witch" project
marks the first time Amazon.com will stream video at its online video
store.

NEW YORK (AP) - Kevin Bacon is an accomplished actor who has worked
with Oscar winners and top directors. He is also a dedicated family
man with two children, and sings and writes songs with his brother.
Yet, when you hear his name, does the 1984 film "Footloose" still
come to mind? That's a typical reaction, said Bacon, who has mixed
feelings about his breakthrough role as Ren McCormack, a city kid who
moves to a small town where dancing has been outlawed. (One reviewer
wrote: "Bacon's charisma sparks innocuous film.") "I'd like to be
better known for something that I've done in the last 15 years. It
would have been nice if something had taken its place," he said
during an interview at a Manhattan hotel. "But by the same token, I
don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth. It was an important
movie for me."
Since "Footloose," Bacon's two dozen film credits include "JFK," "A
Few Good Men," "The River Wild" and "Apollo 13." He is most proud of
"Murder in the First," a 1995 film that also starred Christian
Slater, Gary Oldman and William H. Macy. His new film is "Stir of
Echoes," a psychological thriller that follows Bacon on a
supernatural journey after he is hypnotized at a neighborhood party.
One thing that attracted Bacon to the role was director David Koepp's
advice to view the part as a great character instead of a classic
leading man.

I looked at the imdb when i was surfing around at lunch. There's no common
cast-crew member. The imdb does a specific search for that that takes a few
secs. I don't know about character names though. Two interesting things,
one of which is not really link, the other is weak: Both Wes Craven's and
Oliver Stone's wife were credited for working in each of their husband's
movies, one as a small acting part, the other as some crew person. Not
really a link. The other is that one actor, I think it may have been one of
Costner's (as Jim Garrison) screen children, actually has the real life
last name of Krueger. Funny.
Unless it's the kid named Krueger, you'd just have to watch em both again
(Ech for jfk) or else know some little trivia tidbit that you can't tell
from the imdb....

Subject: [MV] The Astronaut's Wife is the 13th Warrior reviews
My expectations for both of these movies were fairly low so I was not
surprised to find out that The Astronaut's Wife was, in fact, crap.
Thinking back I cannot remember a Johnny Depp film that did not have some
merit in it somewhere. The good news about AW is that there was only one
slow spot in it - the bad news is that it lasted well over 90 minutes. I
have to fail this Rosemary's Baby wannabe.
13th Warrior however was a surprise hit! It's hard to imagine a John
McTiernan (Die Hard) movie with Antonio Bendaras and based on a book by
Michael Chrichton being called a surprise hit - but when you consider the
fact that this film has been in post production for over a year! The film
is wonderfully shot with gorgeous action scenes (and many of them!),
authentic costumes and fine acting from a cast that looks like they belong
there. I must say that I enjoyed this one quite a bit and will expect a lot
of rebuttal for expressing my opinion thusly! A rousing 87% for this Viking
romp.
A new feature of the movieman's review will be after each review. It will
be a list of the top five movie out today so that if you only have $10 and
you've gotta see a flick then this might help...

Subject: [MV] Twin Falls Idaho review
If you can find this little gem of a movie then I reccommend that you check
it out if you like dark and creepy - yet touching love stories. This one
focusses on the Falls - that is a pair of twins with tha last name of Falls.
However these twins are also Siamese twins which at first, just as the story
depicts, causes us to gawk in wonderment and then we ease into the
characters as get to know them. They check into a hotel and call for a
prostitute to make the creature with 3 backs I assume. When the prostitue
arrives - they get more then they bargained for - that sounds like a movie
poster tag line! Neat. Anyway - this movie is great but creepy and I would
recommend it to those who want to unclutter their mind with the
sensationalism of summertime and breathe in the aroma of some truly real
characters. (Where do I get these sentences...?!) An 84% for originality
and a touching tale.
