Mon Diew!
So sorry to have egnited this. I admit that yes, after seeing the movie Leo is
a good actor.
I guess the reason I am resentful is Titanic. The idea of the movie repulsed me
from the start, and to focus on a lame love story when there were so many
intelligent people aboard, including my friend's grandparents.
I still don't like Kate Winslet though. But If anyone knows a good movie she's
in I will be willing to attempt to change this cognition.

HA!!!
This is by far the funniest review I've read in a long time. I really had no
desire to see it, but maybe when it comes out, I'll rent it, fast forward thru
the porn, just to see what that crossbow reference really meant!

Sorry Leticia......I am making a stand on this one. True.....the =
Avengers last twenty or so minutes are rather patchy and rather poor but =

Yes I do have a good Winslet movie to recommend to you. It is called
Heavenly Creatures and is directed by Peter Jackson. It's a great story
about friendship and fantasy - on the darker side...check it out - Peter is
now directing the Lord of the Rings trilogy!!

My favorite actor is NIckolas Cage and his latest movie, "8 mm" was awsome.
All I want to know is if and when his next movie will come out and if you
can give us a little taste of what its going to be like. Thanx from just
another Cage fan.

LONDON (AP) - There's no doubt the British love their Bard:
"Shakespeare In Love" dominated the nominations Monday for the 51st
British Academy of Film and Television Arts awards, earning 15
citations. The nominations include best picture, best director for
John Madden, best actor for Joseph Fiennes, and best actress for
Gwyneth Paltrow. The romantic comedy - which is up for 13 Oscar
nominations as well - competes for best film against another period
saga, the far more grim and violent "Elizabeth." "Elizabeth,"
starring Australian actress Cate Blanchett, is up for 12 awards,
called "Baftas." The winners will be announced April 11

LOS ANGELES (AP) - For years, there was only one foe Spider-Man
couldn't defeat: lawyers. But now the comic book superhero's long
legal struggle is over and his movie career is set to begin.
Publisher Marvel Enterprises Inc. and Sony Pictures Entertainment
have settled their tangled web of lawsuits that have kept the super
hero off the big screen for more then a decade. Under the deal, which
settles lawsuits over ownership of film rights to the character and
was signed on the eve of trial, Marvel and Sony agreed to launch a
Spider-Man franchise, with Sony producing the movie. The settlement
disclosed Monday was a major boost for Spider-Man's publishing home,
Marvel Enterprises, which was formed last October after Marvel
Entertainment Group emerged from bankruptcy and combined with Toy Biz
Inc. Meantime, another battle between Sony and MGM continues over
another famous character. A trial is set for next month over the
rights to the lucrative James Bond movie franchise.

Maybe she just hasn't been offered the meaty roles, or maybe she just likes to

I'm a sci-fi fan myself.

Did you read The Notebook ? I hated that. I vowed I would not read
Nicholas Sparks again. Message in a Bottle has a really interesting
premise though. I did not like the movie much though. I would have to say
that the reason was mostly because of Kevin Costner. I did not believe
him. I don't know who would have been better, but Costner wasn't it.

Future Nicolas Cage Films:
Some of these are rumors.
Bringing Out the Dead
Release Date: Fall 1999
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Martin Scorsese directs this adaptation of Joseph Connelly's novel about a
Hell's Kitchen paramedic (Nicolas Cage) who has a nervous breakdown. Patricia
Arquette, Tom Sizemore, John Goodman, Marc Anthony and Ving Rhames also star.
(Paramount/Touchstone)
The Sea Wolf

(Columbia)
Superman Reborn
Release Date: Other 2000
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Superman dies, then rises again in a new incarnation, much like the many lives
and deaths of this movie. Kevin Smith has written the first draft of the
script, loosely based on the Death of Superman events in the comic book
series. However, that script has since been gutted, and WB has been flailing
around ever after for a replacement. Nicolas Cage is still likely to star as
the man of steel. However the film is currently directorless, as Tim Burton
has moved on. The most recent rumor has Shekhar Kapur taking over the reins.
The title has undergone several variations, including Lives and Returns.
The Defective Detective
Release Date: Other 2000
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Terry Gilliam directs this tale of a cop on the trail of a missing girl. A
book, The Defective Detective, about a knight and damsel in distress is his
only clue to her whereabouts. He must enter this fantasy world to find her.
Nicolas Cage was initially interested in the part, but Robin Williams and Jim
Carrey have been rumored as well. Cameron Diaz may star as well. (Paramount)
Mr. Hughes
Release Date: Other 2000
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Brian DePalma directs Nicolas Cage as Howard Hughes in this biopic. Scripted
by David Koepp. Also rumored to star: Warren Beatty, Tia Carerre and Stanley
Tucci.
Tom Slick: Monster Hunter
Release Date: Other 2000
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nicolas Cage stars in this action comedy about an oil tycoon who spends his
family fortune tracking down legendary monsters. (Fox)
Gone in 60 Seconds
Release Date: Other 2000
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nicolas Cage stars in this remake about competing gangs of car thieves trying
to steal 50 cars in one night. Dominic Sena directs. (Touchstone)
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Release Date: Other 2001
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scott Frank scripts this adaptation of Roald Dahl's book, Charlie and the
Chocolate Factory. A young boy gets a chance to visit Willy Wonka's magical
candy factory. Nicolas Cage was rumored at one point to play Wonka. (WB)
All Dates are subject to change. Also, Nicolas Cage may not star in all of
these.

CRUEL INTENTIONS
(Columbia)
Starring: Ryan Phillippe, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Reese Witherspoon, Selma
Blair, Joshua Jackson, Sean Patrick Thomas, Christine Baranski.
Screenplay: Roger Kumble, suggested by "Les Liaisons Dangereuses" by
Choderlos De Laclos.
Producer: Neal H. Moritz.
Director: Roger Kumble.
MPAA Rating: R (profanity, sexual situations, brief nudity, adult themes,
drug use)
Running Time: 97 minutes.
Reviewed by Scott Renshaw.
Hollywood has always been obsessed with youth, but that obsession
finally appears to be spinning out of control. In these halcyon days of
'N Sync, "Dawson's Creek" and the like, it now seems that you can sell any
pitch in Hollywood by naming a piece of source material and tagging on the
phrase "...but with teenagers." The most recent wave may have started
with CLUELESS ("Jane Austen's _Emma_, but with teenagers"), and has since
generated such classics as THE FACULTY ("THE THING, but with teenagers")
and SHE'S ALL THAT ("PYGMALION, but with teenagers"). So why not CRUEL
INTENTIONS? Why not "DANGEROUS LIAISONS, but with teenagers?"
Because it's a really lousy idea, that's why, made even worse by
appalling execution. The principle players are Sebastian Valmont (Ryan
Phillippe) and Kathryn Merteuil (Sarah Michelle Gellar), Manhattan
step-siblings who are birds of a poisonous feather. Sebastian delights in
deflowering innocents and building his reputation as a cad; Kathryn seeks
vengeance on a sweet young thing named Cecile (Selma Blair) who
unwittingly stole away her boyfriend. United in their disdain for all
other feeling human beings, Sebastian and Kathryn strike a wager. It
involves Annette Hargrove (Reese Witherspoon), a teen who has published a
national magazine article trumpeting her virginity. Sebastian's mission
is to seize that virtue or risk losing his classic car. If he wins, his
next conquest will be his own step-sister.
If that all sounds considerably sleazier than the original DANGEROUS
LIAISONS, that's only because it is. Writer/director Roger Kumble plays
most of the film as though it's soft-core porn for teenyboppers, teasing
with pseudo-incestuous fondling and money-shot close-ups of Gellar and
Blair tongue kissing. To make matters even more unpleasant, Kumble even
plays an interracial relationship for titillation value, and goes for
cheap laughs by introducing a pointless subplot in which a stud athlete
(Eric Mabius) is a closet homosexual, complete with gratuitous slurs. In
a depressing case of lowest common denominator film-making, Kumble has
appealed to his teen audience by reducing the themes of "Les Liaisons
Dangereuses" to "everyone has sex with everyone else."
In an even more depressing development, Kumble may actually have the
_best_ grasp of the source material. Ryan Phillippe, in a valiant but
grossly misguided effort to do some acting, spends virtually the entire
film aping John Malkovich's performance in Stephen Frears' 1988 DANGEROUS
LIAISONS. Every inflectionless line reading, every arched eybrow, every
lascivious double-entendre is familiar, with no apparent adjustment for
the fact that Sebastian is a contemporary teenager instead of an 18th
century nobleman. Gellar is only a bit better in the lip-curling Glenn
Close role, while Selma Blair plays Cecile not as simple and innocent, but
with a fumbling idiocy that makes her every moment on screen unbearable.
Only Reese Witherspoon brings a shred of dignity to the proceedings,
continuing to show a wonderful presence for a young actress and an
interest in finding something human in her character.
Unfortunately, that's an interest her director doesn't share. I
suppose it shouldn't be surprising that CRUEL INTENTIONS is just another
in a long line of glossy high school audience flicks, another film with a
mind-numbingly incessant underscore of shuffle-beats and pop songs,
another vehicle for pretty girls and even prettier boys to pose for their
fans. It is sad, however, that these filmmakers have to keep picking
promising source material for their libretti, then demonstrating no
concern for that material whatsoever. DANGEROUS LIAISONS was a tale of
corruption beneath a courtly veneer; CRUEL INTENTIONS makes the shocking
suggestion that adolescents can be petty, manipulative and obsessed with
sex. It's a stupid and pandering film which will probably appeal to its
audience perfectly, leaving the rest of us to sit back and wait for the
inevitable "MOBY DICK, but with teenagers."
On the Renshaw scale of 0 to 10 dubious liaisons: 2.

Well, the WAV file is on every AOL CDROM you get in the mail. In fact, I'm
sure you're going to get one of the new 3" disks soon (if you haven't
already). Cute things, but useless as a coaster (unlike the full-size discs!).
