Subject: Re: (mobility) Moby being evil against nader
There is one thing that disturbs me about Nader dropping out of the race....
It is true that Nader's alternative views are attractive to many that would
normally have voted for Gore (thus taking votes away from Gore).... It is
also true that if Nader dropped out Gore would get a higher margin....
It is also true that to many, Gore's winning this election is very important.
However there is one thing that I heard that makes me wonder about whether
it's a good idea if he does drop out.... this may or may not be true but if
Nader gets something like 5-10 percent of the vote (which might not happen
anyway) the third party will be on the next election ballot...
the reason why I think that a third party might be good is that we always
need change... we also need different views to represent more people. I know
this is not real but imagine a debate between the green party and the
republicans...very serious economical issues can come up that haven't been
addressed before..
Again, I'm not so sure and it's really hard to predict this upcoming
election...One thing is for sure... whether or not you agree with the parties
on one issue or another, it's really important to go out there and vote....
even if the difference between the republicans and democrats seems
superficial and nader definately won't win.
thanks,
sharmila

This is true. I believe it's called the Federal Matching Funds Act. It's a
law designed to encourage competition in politics, and break the hold the
big 2 parties have over the system. The law says that if a non-Democrat,
non-Republican candidate can get 5% of the total vote, then however much $$$
the candidate raised during their campaign will be matched by the government
in the next election. So, since Nader's raised around $5 million, if he can
get 5% of the vote, he gets an additional $5 mil from the Feds. Nader gets
to use this $10 mil to run for the next election in 2004.

After hearing Nader speak, I feel he represents a lot of what people are
thinking and feeling, more so than either Gore or Bush. I also suspect that
he'd be alot more popular if he had the kind of money and connections Gore
or Bush have. I'll be surprised if he doesn't get that magic 5%. But I'm
very surprised to hear that MOby wouldn't back Nader. Nader is big on saving
the environment, and so is Moby.
That's enough political talk for now!

Some people need to lighten up. Yes blow up dolls! Funny! Anyway, I'm on digest mode now and it's beautiful. All you people complaining about having to delete one-liners should just switch over to digest mode.
It seems like a lot of Moby fans are for Nader. A lot of people here are and a lot of people on the boards on moby-online.com are too. That's cool. Yeah, I'd vote for Gore (if I could) out of fear. Sorry, I'm a wussy. I do like a lot of things about Nader but not enough to have Bush be the pres. If you're in Texas or New York I think you should go ahead and vote for Nader. But I live in Califonia, it's pretty close here, so I'd vote for Gore.
OK, anyway. I'm sitting in Computer Programming class (evil!). I'm bored and I haven't posted anything for a really long time. Um, yeah Rare has Thousand on it. I found Rare used a couple days ago so I finally have it. It's ok, not great. I still haven't listenend to the Go mixes.
So have a nice day,
Sara
