Hey folks!
Saw the Porcelain vid today. well part of it. Not much
going on it seems. Whats up with the car? I thought
Moby hated cars. First he drives one in Honey (and
rides in it, and almost gets hit by it, and the gas
tuns out so he has to go and get more...) and now he;s
tiding in a car... with no driver! ahh! and he drives
down a hill and almost crashed into trees and cows!
what kind of an impression is this on the kids?!? ;P
of course, i suppose its no worse than the new Eminem
video. If some random kid jumps out the window, they
arent gonna splash onto the street like a pool.
anyway,
Porcelain is a nice video. Not classic, but hey any
glimpse of Moby for just 3 minutes, any random 3
minutes where commercialist shit and prefab chart
fodder arent on the charts, good show. Speakingg of
which I also saw VH1 showing the new Steve Earle video
(!?!?) Wow! MTV would never even think of playing
Steve Earle! MAYBE on 120 Minutes (they ocasionally
play roots rock type stuff like Wilco or Son Volt or
somethinG) but they'd just think Steve Earle is too
country. I'm not really a fan of his because of that,
but I like his new single cause it sounds like Dylan.
So thats cool Vh1 is playing something non-mainstream
like that.
Also, MobySongs is doing pretty nice on the charts
btw. it was 1508 or so 1st week and this week its 138
or so. dont know about next week tho. not in the top
100 yet. but maybe it will be someday.
and also, I finally FINALLY got my copy of the Sifl &
Olly tribute album that's been in production for like
2 years now (and that I did 2 trax for). Let me tell
you folks, it was so much worth the wait. My God. I
love the Sockheads so much , they are such a great
bunch of people, and most of us appreciate the same
types of humour and music, which is awesome. it's just
neat to see so many other people who are into Futurama
and Python and MST3K and TMBG and all that cool stuff.
Not to put you guys down of course. I love you guys
about as much (altho there is a wee bit more
squabbling around these parts...) and this album
reminds me of when we did our Moby tribute album and
we were all like superclose and stuff. sorta kinda.
Hey, is Thanks 2 ever going to happen? We were
planning that years ago too, but when Ryu left it
kinda died...
Also, Liam and the S&O crew have been listening to our
album, loving it to death, and Liam even showed it to
the VICE PRESIDENT OF MTV to show him that YES INDEED,
PEOPLE DO GIVE A SHIT ABOUT THIS SHOW! VP thought it
was the coolest thing ever. Damn straight!!!!!! That
oughtta show em!
Thing is, MTV HAS BEEN SENT SEASON 3, to show on the
internet, and that was months ago. They're just
sitting on the tapes. So, um, please go to the MTV
News page and go to the You Tell Us and tell them to
put Season 3 of S&O on the internet.
SORRY!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry about all this drivel, to those who do not want
to read it, but I'm overjoyed about this.
And remember: MOBY ROCKS ASS!!!!!!!

All I got to say is, I hope these folks get paid, but
well Moby deserves to be paid too. Or something. Um im
not following it to carefully.
I would also like to add that Matador is way way way
better than Astralwerks and like my good pal Steve
Giles I am voting for Matador all the way.
I like Astral too but Matador is just so way much
better. And yes, Matador's 3 cd set is amazing. Even
better than Whats Up Matador from a few years ago.
Also, whoever named their band Holy Hand Grenade is
cooler than smack. Don't get too close to the Killer
Bunny tho.... ;P

I think the porcelain video has more meaning than almost crashing into
things. Everything is just barely being missed, or missing him. I can't
easily put my explanation of it into words, but think about it.

Slipping into my wanky semiotics study hat, perhaps the concept of the vid
is that by using the car as a metaphor for the relationship of which Moby
sings, he is showing us how he is DRIVEN along by his feelings but because
he is not driving he feels out of control and helpless. The driverless state
of teh car also suggests a "dream" type atmosphere which in turn may
represent the fog of memories through which he is sifting, similarly it
suggests just how mystical/magical "love" (or whatever) can be - weird
things happening but being accepted as perfectly normal. The near misses and
subsequent impacts of the car are used to highlight again how out of control
he feels in this relationship that is over yet is soo obviously not as he is
still thinking about it.
Or maybe not. I haven't seen the vid. Obviously not suitable for NZ
audiences.
Sarah :)

Hi. I'm brand smackin' new to the list. I'm from Boston, MA but I'm out
here in Dublin, Ireland on a work abroad program. It's quite an
experience, and I'm hoping to expand my experience beyond Dublin. Hm.
Anyway, I'm aware that Moby is going to be performing out here, and in the
UK. Can anyone tell me exactly how to get to any of these concerts? Also,
if you don't mind showing around a stranger who shares musical tastes, I
would definitely appreciate anyone who I could hang with at a concert or
something.
Well, I'm sure I'll be sharing my views or something soon, but for now
I'll just slip into Lurk Mode and wait for responses or questions. Thanks,
everyone!
Peace,
John.

hello all ,
it makes no sense why a horrible drug such as alcohol can be legal
and cause so many problems and deaths . in many ways alcohol is worse then
marijuana if you ask me . each year there are thousands of deaths related to
driving while intoxicated . I myself have just quit drinking abusively
(still drink a few now and then ) and i look at all the time and money i
have wasted on poisoning myself . I have also been in two serious car wrecks
in which it is amazing i was not hurt bad in either one . I am sure some
people can control how much they drink but there are a lot of
obsessive-compulsive personalities out there who just cannot control how
much they drink . in my opinion maryjane is ten times safer and better .
hope to hear some of you guys opinions on this matter .

This is such a touchy subject. It's true that alcohol is worse than most
drugs. It does horrible things to your body, whereas the government lets it
stay legal. Other drugs that are illegal that wouldn't hurt someone they say
are oh so bad. I'm confused, how can the government do this? I am all for the
rights of each person's wishes. If you want to do something stupid like
alcohol or heroin, I don't mind, but there are safer ways of mind altering
like marijuana, or, as some don't want to believe, ecstasy. They don't ruin
your body.
I need to say, please don't let this become a huge war. I don't want to see
everyone fighting about stuff that are opinions. Everyday, everything you do,
is your opinion. Don't down someone because they want to do these things, or
don't see that anyone should do them. Opinions.

the only reason why alcohol is leagle, is because there is tax on it, if the
goverment received no money from it, then it would be illeagle. ciggerettes
kill billions of people, but they are leagle cuz the goverment gets alot of
money from the ciggerette companies. the only reason why weed isnt leagle,
is cuz everyone can grow it, and it would probably put the ciggerette
companies out of business, then the goverment gets no money. the only thing
the goverment cares about is money. ok im done babbling this has nothing to
do with moby. laterz

SCREW ASTRALWERKS!!!!
anyway i got the new CMJ and theres this thing about
Prince's plan to release a 7 cd box set of samples of
his works (for 700 dollars? i dont think so!)
and it jokes about who will get and use it, and it
says about Moby:
November 8: Sampled by quirky cut'n'paste savant Moby
for his new album, Vegan Supermen Are Our Superiors.
The record is hailed as "genius" by 347 different
critics, 12 of whom have actually listened to it.
December 1: Portions of Vegan are "sampled" by such
advertisers as Ford, Heineken, Vicks NyQuil, 2000
Flushes and the Yalta Tourism Board, earning literally
zillions of dollars in residuals for its composer as
the album goes on to sell 38 copies. Prince paints the
word "Sucka" on his face.
Hmmmmmm. Has Moby actually made that much more money
with Play as an advertising soundtrack than as a pop
album? hmmmmmm.
Also, VOTE FOR MATADOR!
Oh yeah I said that.
ROCK!

80's early 90's, no one even watched his lame PPV event on new years eve,
and i can see why.i do believe some of moby's early underground CD's were
done on astralwerks, but then again i could be mistaken. anyway, i like lo

that Prince thing is already available on his web site
(www.love4oneanother.com i think)--allows unlimited sampling of his songs,
and it has all the individual instruments on the songs broken apart. all
this AND the guy said today that he loves Napster and is standing behind
them. Prince does more for music fans as a whole than any other artist
today.
But yes, screw Astralwerks. How hard is it to make $$ signing artists that
have already proven themselves as mega stars in other countries, and NEVER
SIGNING AMERICAN ARTISTS?
ummm...Moby at the Red Rocks. Be there.
