MOBY is to record a special one-off concert for the BBC television series
'LATER WITH JOOLS HOLLAND'.
The 75-minute show, which will be filmed at the BBC Television Centre in
London for broadcast on October 7, will feature Moby playing songs from his
most recent album, 'Play', backed by a string section and additional
singers - as well as acoustic versions of other songs and a selection of his
greatest hits.
Moby is the latest musician to take part in a 'Later With...' special. Other
bands recently featured include REM, Oasis and most recently, Paul Weller.
Moby is scheduled to make his last UK festival appearance of the year at the
V2000 Festival at Hylands Park, Chelmsford, and Weston Park, Staffordshire
over the weekend of August 19-20.

Top 10 Songs: in no specific order

Why does it always rain on me- Travis
Hey Boy hey Girl- Chemical Brothers
Flagpole Sitta- Harvey Danger
Rockafella Skank- Fat Boy Slim
Apollo 440- Heart Go Boom
Praise You- Fat Boy Slim
Feeling So Real- Moby
Armand van Heldon- Koochy
Orbital- Beached
Too many to list.. I love so many...
Fave Cd's.. hmm even harder...
Play- Moby
Everything is Wrong- Moby
The Beach Soundtrack
Fat Boy SLim- You've Come A Long Way Baby
Fat Boy Slim- At the Boutique
Chemical Brothers- (any.. I know thats cheating)...
Apollo 440
Indie 2000 (double cd)
Pearl Jam (can't think of the name.. the one with Daughter and Better Man on
it)
and Killing Heidi I guess.. not sure.. there are TOO MANY!!! Mostly my
faves are mixed ones I've made up from Napster...
Thats me.. for the first part.. in response to the "low self esteem vs. high
self esteem".. please read on...
Ok firstly.. I understand the point being made about how vanity and
arrogance often go hand in hand.. and how Moby is very down to earth... etc.
etc. In my perfect world.. I would like to see a down to earth Moby with a
HIGH self esteem.. I think low self esteem is the worst thing in the world..
and I speak from previous experience. From the ages of about 7 to 18, I had
the LOWEST self esteem around I think.. I was your typical awkward teenager
and I hated myself.. I hated being below average and I have even tried to
kill myself over this.. HOWEVER.. one day while I was travelling.. i woke up
and decided that enough was enough and snapped myself out of it.. (I'm
cutting a long story short here)... More recently.. I LOVE myself.. I am not
particularly vain.. ok so I am a little bit... :o) I like what I have been
given... I look older and I take care of myself.. I am not high
maintenance.. and if I was famous I think it would probably go to my head a
little bit. I have grown up around several 'famous' people and I understand
why it does go to their heads. I'm not saying it's right or wrong.. but it
happens. If I choose to hang around/date those people then that is my
concern. I, however, have a high enough self esteem to deal with their
ego-tism.
This isn't coming out how I'd hoped it would. There will always be someone
more beautiful and more vain than the next person. I just deal with it. It's
true: Vain guys are hard to date cos they love themselves TOO much. (there
are exceptions to the rule)... girls are the same I guess... but I choose to
date people who compliment me and reciprocate emotions... I think that Moby
(with all his strong beliefs and convictions) should take a long look in the
mirror and realise how incredible beautiful he is.. and learn to live with
it.. it's who he is... its whats inside that counts...
I once met a guy from NZ from the net (ugh) and (I quote) "you look much
better in the flesh... thank god..." were the first words he spat out. Made
me completely disrespect him. Was I supposed to thank him for that? Like me
or lump me.. this is who I am...
So CHIN UP.. look the world in the face... because a big smile and a happy
disposition get you everywhere :o)
Sorry it was so long and drawn out..
Jess :o)

Ok. Sinus surgery. removed bone round my eye socket and refashioned the

Never have used cocaine recreationally, never wanted to.

Maybe I have a biased view - I WORK in teh music/media industry; have a lot
to do with both execs and artists and I'm sorry - what's wrong with making a
profit? Remember that for every music company fat cat making a huge
paypacket and then bitching about the cost to service their porsche, there's
a whole bunch of little people making a living off it.
Let's face it - for better or worse music execs exist and play a pivotal

Firstly it's great to see healthy debate. Synchophants are not what I
imagine Mpoby would like to be collecting on his way round teh musical
universe and criticisim I'm sure is always welcome. When it's informed.
As we continue the "Should a Moby gig sound just like his CD debate"...
Ok, Chris (who is majoring in audio) agreed that sound varies from venue to
venue but then went on to say that this is remedied by sound checks.
Partly true. But a soundcheck is not foolproof and will not create a perfect
(accoustically speaking) gig . Crowd size, movement and placement will
effect the quality of a sound mix. The dynamics will change. Mixing sound is
not a perfect science. It's a fluid living breathing thing, just like the
music itself and whilst knowing your desk and mix and mics and equipment and
soundchecking till the cows come home will obviously help - it won't
guarantee an accoustically perfect show.
Like the performers - it all depends on that particular moment on that
particular night; but majoring in audio I guess you already know that Chris.
As for cutting the soul singer out of the mix - I can only assume that that
was a deliberate move on the part of Mobys sound tech - for what reason I
cannot imagine since I know she was singing live at other gigs.
It's all very well to say that Moby likes to work alone but another to
demand that "...he needs to have a willingness to expand and share ideas
with other musicians for a superb live show..."
He is primarily a producer. Who works alone. He HAS expanded his ideas by
bringing other people on stage with him to play. Assuming of course that the
bass player, the drummer AND the dj weren't being cut out of the mix too and
therefore were just faking - just like the big boned soul chick.
And as for "..Moby's prices just about doubled for his new tour, I don't
think it's too much to ask that a live performance be made..."
Right. And the cost of living hasn't gone up? And of course music should be
the exception to the rule - flag supply and demand lets just be NICE
everybody...

Well I've taken all the Music Business and Contracts classes, and you can't
tell me honestly that the label contracts aren't unfair. Of course it takes
a whole bunch of people to work in the business, but look at their salaries
as compared to the ones at the top of the label. I honestly don't think
that art is only worth about .90 while the business and production part is
$10-$12...it's all bullshit. The woodstock guys are saying they barely
broke even...I know that's bullshit. They are still paying for Woodstock
69, they wouldn't design another concert to where they just broke even.
Music execs just sit on their ass and halfway manage. It's the A&R and
scouts and promotion team that are finding the bands in the first place that
are making everything work. There is just too much money being made by
greedy people. I wouldn't mind paying so much for concerts or cd's if I
knew the artist was getting more. Which leads to the whole napster thing,
artists think we are trying to screw over them, it's the labels that
everybody wants to crash down on. The money needs to be directed to the
source of the product, not the guy saying give me 80% of your profits and I
will give you good distribution. Or at least even it out a bit.
