I watched it on PPV...and like...I mean the performance was good but he had
this big boned soul chick acting like she was singing the samples, and it
was so obvious she wasn';t singing most of them, and it just looked realy
stupid. And then he climbed all the way to the top of the speaker stacks
and did nothing and climbed right back down. He did something where he said
the jockas probably think he is a pussy so he played the guitar solo at the
end of come on baby. But like he had so much energy, and he kept playing
all the chilled out songs. Like porcelain, why does my heart feel so bad,
natural blue, honey...he did let a breakdancer type guy come on stage for
bodyrock....he also played Go...but that was the only old song.
I recorded it, I might dump it to computer if I have the time.

actually, i think that all the singing-with-samples that moby has been
doing is pretty lame. it would be soooo nice if he let that "big-boned
soul-chick" (as you so demeaningly put it) sing solo. she has a beautiful
and strong voice. a friend of mine mentioned this to him (moby) and i
guess he got a bit nasty about it. he's a bit controling about his sound
and performance (that could be the reason why his show has been the
same for over 5 years..) i personally wish moby would keep
his mouth shut on stage and get real women to sing the parts WITHOUT the
samples. his more spoken word stuff is great for his voice, but face it,
he's a good punk singer and that's that.
i don't understand why he has so many people on stage that only ape the
movments of actual playing. i would like to see him solo with a keyboard
and some congas, or with a big band that all played every part live, with
absolutly no samples. right now, he's just awkward.

well ok big boned soulc hick might be a littte deameaning..but it pissed me
off she was doing nothing..I could tell she sang some parts in porcelain but
that was it..I mean she is singing with with why does my heart feel so bad
and I can tell it's the sample cause I can hear the background distortion in
it. It's like I know the samples are playing off a DAT or something..don't
insult my intelligence by having someone lipsing. Like on all the songs
like honey, go, james bond whatever..he always does this like scream random
stuff before it climaxes type thing. And I don't know, it's cool and
all..but like just kick some animal rights stuff or something, because I am
sure like the 90% of the audience probably thinks he is some guy with fatboy
slim as a mentor. He can play new stuff, but he needs to incorporate songs
that showcase him as a musician live.

I haven't been to a Moby concert since October but I'm going to his concert
in San Diego (a huge arena if I understand) and I'm concerned about the
crowd surfing. Do people crowd surf at his concerts or is it only because
that was a festival you went to?
There's nothing worse than a huge arena with moshing & crowd surfing IMO. I
go to punk rock shows but end up disliking that aspect so much... and it's
heavenly when I go to an electronic concert. I sure hope there is no pain
factor at Moby concerts now.

still got kicked in the eye and my friend even further got kicked on top of

the moshing alot too. I ca'nt do what I like if I'm gettin my ass beat by a

Subject: RE: (mobility) Rolling Rock Report and Crowd Surfing-kinda OT
those "nincompoops" slamming each other are just getting out built up
energy..not everyone just wants to stand there and bob their heads and
scream like teenage girls. The artist on stage moves around a lot and in
return the crowd a lot of the times feels the need to also. Of course some
shows call for it and it some don't. But just because you don't like it,
don't stereotype it is as this stupid thing. You may have different ways or
releasing energy you just payed a lot of money to see.
If people pay $50 to beat the shit out of each other while music is going,
more power to them. Of course it would be nice if there were seperate
sections for this, but then I think people would then be pissed off because
they aren't getting their desired place in front of the stage. Point is,
you can't make everyone happy. I wouldn't go to a concert that had no
moshing or crowd surfing allowed when the artist is jumping up and throwing
himself around on stage. Concerts are made for emotional catharsis for a
lot of people. It's just something that is inevitable.

Why can't they understand that some people in the crowd can't be around that?
I was next to a girl in a wheel chair at that show. I always go to the person
in the wheelchair because they always get knocked over. I help keep the
fuckers away from them. I don't appreciate going home with bruises all over
me, and I'm not the one in the pit. I like to be up front, I used to be,
before I got pregnant, and I had bruises all over my ribs, my breasts, my
face, my shins. That's unfair to the rest of the crowd that don't like it. I
don't care if the artist likes it, most of the crowd gets pushed away because
they don't. You can just jump up and down, rather than beat everyone else in
the venue up.
I understand it'll never be stopped. That's why I don't go to shows any more.
Just raves for me.
