i must agree with the guy who posted the first reply to this:
underworld is the shit. and their newer stuff is a lot less dark now that karl hyde kicked most of his habits. if you like really throbbing gut-churning dance music, though, nobody does it better than dubnobasswithmyheadman-era underworld.
if you're in the mood for vaguely politicized breakbeat, check out some early coldcut. this guys were some of the fathers of the big beat movement, and i would totally reccomend the atomic moog 2000/boot the system ep.
a lot of the new sounding, really ground breaking production is being done in hip hop these days, too. as always. jurassic 5 and handsome boy modeling school are both extraordinarily worthwhile buys. i hated rap before i heard j5. and, dude, if you haven;t heard any trip hop (massive attack, portishead's "dummy," some of the instrumentalist dj's like shadow and krush) you haven't lived.
but. i pose a question to the list: we here in america have a presidential election coming up. who's voting what? and to those bunches of you outside of this...estimable nation...whats it like on the outside looking in?
