ROCK!
I set my vcr for 2 am just in case AMP came back on,
and what oh what did I find on my videotape as I
watched it this morning? But a MOBY concert! An hour
of Moby live at Pinkpop!!! How exciting!
The crowd was huuuuuuuuuuuge tho, I thought he was at
Live Aid or something ;) Much bigger than Toad's Place
where I saw him at. And he had the DJ and the backup
singer, unlike when I saw him. I don't know the backup
singer kinda reminded me of a Marky Mark video or
something. I don't think she really fit in.... The DJ
was a nice touch too I guess, but he was not, as Moby
said, the best DJ in the western world ;) But it was
kinda nice seeing him show off I guess. And it was
funny in the beginning when Moby played a bit of
"Enter Sandman" and then stopped like "ok sorry that
just came out, i didnt mean to do that" ;) and of
course he played "Feeling So Real" saying like "this
is the most beautiful disco song ever written!" and
everyone was all cheering and bouncing around.....
god, it felt like MTV going to old skool rave nite 93
or something. awesome. altho as ethereal as the "take
me away" part in FSR is, i don't think he really
needed that backup singer singing slightly off-time to
it... but whatever.

I tend to think that the reason why he would not be a determing factor for
someone to convert to Christianity because of how common-place Christianity
is. Being or becoming a Vegan is not mainstream nor is it a religion. I
have never even heard of it until I started listening to Moby. So if I were
to become Vegan then I would have to say that Moby was an influence for me
to become Vegan. But Christianity, most of us have grown up hearing about
it all of our lives so to pin-point one person is hard to do.

I saw that special on mtv2 and i liked it and all but damn that backup
singer didnt belong. What she was singing at times, was pointless,
because her voice wasn't close enough to the original.
and is it me or does moby sort of use the same lyric for each song where
he adds his vocals?
something like "one love..." blah blah :)
does anyone know what hes saying. mind u i was watching this late at
night and real quiet so i wouldnt wake my roomie!
well it was still nice to see him on, i gotta get me that moby shirt he
had.. that was the perfect moby shirt..

It certainly is! I've been playing the "Kevin & Bean's last Christmas" CD
(with "listen to the angels") quite a lot lately ( yes, in the middle of
July! :)
It has quite a few good songs/scetshes on it...
Nice to hear MTV is broadcasting Moby on Pinkpop 2000, it was a great
performance! I'll put some mp3z of it on my ftp server I'll build when I get
cable internet. There's a very funny piece where Moby has all 60.000
visitors

Subject: (mobility) Moby and chemistry
Yay! I'm twenty now! My birthday was yesterday and I played tons of Moby at
my shindig. happy birthday Paul!
Ok back to Moby: I was watching before they were rock stars on vh1 and
there's a segment before they go to commercial where they ask a quiz
question. The one I saw was: What was Moby's worst subject in high school?
After commercial, answer was: chemistry. Then they showed Moby explaining
why. When he was in high school they had to do an experiment where they
turned some liquid into crystals. Well, the liquid he was using was
flammable and all over his hands. He accidently got a stream of it right
into the bunsen burner so it caught fire and the flame travelled up to his
hands. his hands caught fire so he was waving them around trying to put out
the fire. He flicked some of the liquid onto his lab partner and his lab
partner caught fire too. Obviously no major damage was done.
True story or not, I don't care. Damn funny visual. :)

Hi guys, I'm forwarding this note to you I
received from a friend of mine in Los Angeles.
He is in DIRE need of a video copy of Moby's
concert from PinkPop that was broadcast on M2
this weekend, as you will see why when you read
the note.
I read this morning a post from who someone got
the show on tape, but I deleted that note before
I made a note of who sent it. If you can help a
little girl get her "Moofy", don't hesitate to
send me or Jeff a note.

I personally think the reason for that is that many people ( myself
included ) kind of hang on the edge of being vegetarian, thinking that
it would be a good idea but not sure if they want to commit to it and
having someone they admire (Moby) being one can help them change their
mind. But most people are set in their particular religions and don't
feel like converting no matter what religion the Moby is. Does anyone
get that, i don't think i explained that very well. I guess i mean that
religion is a more permanent thing that people don't change their minds
on much and being vegetarian isn't as permanent judging from the people
i know who switch back and forth from vegetarianism.

In my opinion religion is focused on more than veganism (sp). If you think
about it youll realize that religion is part of you alot more than the way
you eat. every sunday at least an hour is set aside for purely religion.
for most people right before you eat you say a prayer, and before you go to
bed you have prayer. granted you eat three times a day but you never really
think about it, in prayer your always thinking about religion. so waht i
think is jsut that people are more afraid to change the religion rather than
there eating habits. for me being a vegan is the way i was brought up i have
jsut never had any meat.
cch
i probly butchered this but if you can understand what im trying to say so
help you god, because im not sure i understand it

From: scott stoddard <rubbersharkman@yahoo.com>
Subject: (mobility) my spirtuality and moby
I found all these recent entries very interesting, all
the comments about religion and the spirituality that
is inside moby's music. I just thought I'd add my
thoughts, Thinking about what all of you said made me
realize something about why I am so attached to moby's
music form a spiritual point of view.
To me the exsistance of God is something I've never
questioned, I pray to him often and feel his influence
in my life, and that of Jesus Christ. They are as real
to me as any thing else. I am an avid member of my
church, and I love it. I think that church plays a
valuable role in in our spiritual development. There
are many things related to God that are very personal,
that we deal with alone, But it is also precious to
have interaction with others in a religious
atmosphere, serving, teaching and learning. The
purpose of life is to learn to be like God, and God's
exsistance is all about helping us be like him. You
can't become like God without other people.
Enough preaching, relating this to moby - In my faith
we are taught to be very aware of how the things we
do, the thoughts we think, the things we take into our
bodies, the music we listen to etc. - affects the
feeling of closeness to God in our lives. The first
time I heard Moby, it was 1995. I bought a used
cassette of everything is wrong at little music shop
on OSU Campus. I remember hearing hymn for the first
time and being really surprised at the intensity of
the spirituality in the simple rifts. It was not the
techno I was used to. I felt close to God as I
listened. Then feeling so real comes on with rampant
excitement, tracing a hint of subtle spirituality.
Then all that I need starts ripping, and although the
song is emotional the spirit is gone. The rest of the
album kept flip flopping between the two extremes,
from beauty to pain and back. It was something very
different to me. I have always been very curious about
why I appreciate Moby so much, even though I dislike a
lot of his music. Reading all these comments about the
spirituality of his creations made me wonder if it is
not the contradiction of spirtuality and anger, of
peace and pain that I relate to so strongly. It's like
his music is the soundtrack to my life, with its times
of warm spirit and lapses thereof. After every saving
moment there is a storm, and after every storm there
is the return of peace, Loving his sweetness, because
I have tasted him bitter.

Subject: (mobility) Speaking of MOBY....
Speaking of cool MOBY shirts... at the Brisbane concert he was wearing this
really cool one with a bar code across the front.. and something along the
lines of 'not buying into consumerism' or something.. but I remember looking
at it thinking how badly I could use one... funnily enough.. the bassist
said to him *when he took off his shirt* "you should just chuck it out
there!".. to which HE replied "nah.. its one of my favourites..".. well
there you have it... talk about impeccable tastes.. hehehehe
Anyway.. Into something a little more deep...
Since everyone is giving there opinions about Religion and Veganism.. etc..
here I go...
I am none of the above... however *and correct me if I am wrong* I also was
led to belive that after reading the "Animal Rights" essays, that Moby is in
fact, NOT a Christian.. however he practices CHristian fundamental beliefs..
IE: Humanism, compassions...etc.. (he says it so much better than me, in the
slip), yet he is completely against the Christian attitudes whereby
homosexuals are beat up for there 'lifestyle' etc... and everything you have
all already spoken about... I'm going to go home in a few minutes and
re-read the essay so that I can check my original opinion...
Anyway.. I was raised by 2 non-religious parents.. I attended a Catholic
school and was encouraged to make up my own mind about my beliefs... I chose
to live the best way I know how without depending on a religion..etc.. I
don't condemn religious people or their beliefs, but I don't have enough
knowledge to be convictive in my opinions...
Nor am I a vegan.. I think its lovely that there are people out there who
can do the whole vegetarian, vegan thing.. I however am a meateater.. for
the simple reason that I cannot bring myself to survive on vegeatbles, pasta
and rice for example.. *I know I am simplifying it*... Until something
happens in my life to encourage me to think otherwise, I appreciate that
someone like Moby is out there writing about this so that at least I am
helped in my general understanding of why people choose to live in such a
way...
ANYWAY.. I just have one COMPLETELY non-related question to ask the
Americans who have read this far...
Because Australia is SO BEHIND.. can you please tell me who is still around
in SURVIVOR *slash* who won??? I am dying over here :o)
Jess :O)
