Subject: (mobility) moby is my god (thoughts on spirituality and veganism)
I think the reason that people may say Moby introduced them to veganism, but
far less people can claim that Moby introduced them to God, is simply because
religion is such a personal subject. For me, knowing that Moby was a vegan
intensified my curiousity about what exactly it was, but I wouldn't say he
alone converted me from meat-eating to vegan. I didn't know personally or
know of many vegans. I looked up information about factory farmings and
animal rights, and that was what truly changed my mind. I was not as
interested in the Christianity aspect because I was brought up as christian -
or rather, my father and brother and I regularly attended church on sundays,
when I was younger, and celebrated Christmas. Most of my friends and
acquaintances were Christian; it was not such an unknown area. Everybody
interprets religion in their own way, which explains why many fans refer to
moby's songs as "religious" or "spiritual," and I personally don't interpret
his songs that way at all. Even if Moby, when writing his songs, was
intending them to be about his devotion to God, still, I would personally not
make the same connection. I think many of Moby's songs simply evoke images
of life and beauty - to one person it may mean their god, to another it may
be the way rain looks on flowers, to another it may be the crowded new york
streets at night. Maybe, because of my athiest (with occasional waverings
towards agnostic) beliefs, I choose to ignore the facet of Moby which is a
Christian. I don't mean that in a rude way - I respect his beliefs and
appreciate his conviction. But if someone asked me to describe moby in ten
words, i don't think christian would be one of them. To a fan who is deeply
religious, christian may be the first word they think of. Well anyway....

to why he has had been an influence to become Vegan but not Christian...>>>
I don't think someone can just become Christian. No one can influence me to believe in a God, it's just something that happens I guess. I understand that someone can read the Bible or some other religious scripture and it having a profound impact on their life, and then converting to that religion, I don't think it's something that a rockstar can convince you to do. Become a vegan or vegetarian is different. Moby didn't influence me in my decision to become a veggie but I see how someone could become more interested in animal rights and invetigate it after hearing what he has to say about it.
Hey, good question!
