How bout the Mtv awards? He was spinning rekkids there. I also saw him spin
@ at a rave in April 99 in Cleveland. Spun a pretty tite House, Progressive
set. He headlined at a rave called Engage over Thanksgiving weekend in DC in
Nov. 99. Moby can and does spin vinyl. I like his concert performances
better though. Oh and the rekkids he was spinning @ those parties were other
people's stuff, i don't recall hearing any of his own music.

Well, that's what I thought! So there! :-)
Perhaps what was overhead was Moby saying that he's not DJing on his current
tour, which is why I asked in the first place. I'd love him to see him spin in
concert.

PS I've got a fair amount of Moby's older music - I imagine my DJ radar ear
isn't as fine tuned as is possible.

* Name : Mia .iV. Valentine
* Age : 19
* Where you first heard Moby, and how much of a fan you are: I first heard
of moby while in san francisco in 96 I think it was. I heard somthing on a
radio station my friend was listening to and I started jumpin around like a
maniac to it and he started laughing at me. I know I started hearing more
about moby in 98 and I decided to look around for some stuff. Well, how much
of a fan am I? I live in Bakersfield California and I drove to Portland
Oregon to see moby in concert there and I also went to fresno, CA to see moby
there as well.
* Other artists you like: Orgy, Garbage, Dj Spooky, NIN, Bob Dylan,
Everclear, The cure and alotta others.
* Any other interesting information you wish to share: I dunno about
anything interesting about myself, other than I am in need of money to get my
moby pictures developed lol And I blew up a huge shark to give to give to
moby in fresno and made it look like a girl lol and Wrote "MOBY ROX" and "WE
LOVE MOBY" on it and he took it from me on stage. But other than those little

Paul Simpson: your letter is indeed in there, you even mention Sifl & Olly
and "Moby's album".
On a side note, I've always, well at least about 3-4 years ago found SPIN to
be lowering its standards, before this issue I'd browsed someone else's
recent issues and I was EXTREMELY disappointed--seems they've gone the way
of MTV (ironic that SPIN should criticize MTV as well). Anyway, where I
work we have to deliver mail, and after we forward a certain number of
issues of magazines, we stop and it becomes property of the desk, or whoever
can fish it out first. After acquiring the "Special Dance issue" of SPIN
(wow! cool dude!) and reading the article on Moby, SPIN redeemed itself
somewhat. The occasional freelancer or staff writer can put out a decent
article. Although none of the information or issues raised in it are
anything new (to this list at least) it was a pretty positive article for
Moby--I especially like the analysis comparing the shift in the
"rave/techno" movement to elitist bullshit, much like the 80s punk "scene".
I advise everyone to go to your library and read the article(of course don't
but the fucking thing!). After reading this article I went immediately to
the back to read the consistently good "Genius Lessons" by Sean Landers, and
low and behold he claims he has been fired and this will be his last column.
What the FUCK?!@?!?!? First a refocus to crap music, then a "consultant
make over" along with stupid ass "fashion layouts" and now they can Sean
Landers? I was a bit too hasty in my initial optimism. The last bastion of
decent music coverage remains in this--the listservs and websites run by
FANS. Fuck SPIN, fuck Radio, FUCK MTV.

yes, I was granted "Napster Amnesty" by the jocks
on a local radio station since I use the service
primarily to decide what new music to BUY, as I
think most people do, since mp3's, for the vast,
VAST majority or music listeners, are not the
most convenient way to experience music.

God I hope not, I think Mike D's mix SUCKED. (sorry just my opinion). I
like the Perfecto mix a thousand times more than Mike D's travesty.

"House Of God", LOVE that song and video but have had a HARD AS HELL time
finding this track. I've gotten a couple versions off of Napster but I
prefer the video version the best and can't find it anywhere and the actual
singles are long out of print to my knowledge. "I am excited.... about the
House Of God... fifty dollas or more".

I tape AMP every week and watch it back the next day playing through my
stereo system so the music is pumping. One thing I can say is, even when a
song sucks, the video is usually way more entertaining and innovative than
the junk EmptyV shows during the day. I watch every vid for the visuals
alone, some great stuff being made in electronic videos. And last night
they closed with the OH so lovely "Defenceless" by Waldeck, luuuuuuv that
song.
OK, I'm done,

yeah, they're doing a show on "techno music" -- so it should be
