...personally,...YES YOU ARE JUST CRAZY! and really
quite SELFISH, not to mention ignorant! Sorry if
that's harsh, but F**K!!! What's wrong with this??
You say yer "insulted"? Not much of a fan if you ask
me! Wouldn't you rather have the general public
embrace a beautfully written/produced/engineered/mixed
work of art like "Play" instead of say, the Backstreet
Boys or Britney Spears, et al? To me, (being a bit
older and wiser than you, obviously) it only gives me
hope that there are more people out there willing to
give something that sounds "different" to them a
CHANCE. THANK FRICKIN' GOD!!! Moby's music is
intelligent and if more people enjoy it, maybe there's
hope, maybe there are some people out there that that
have more than 3 mere brain cells!! If you really
feel it's a "straight diss to all of 'us'", you need
to re-think yer feelings. Moby is not YER PERSONALLY
ARTIST. I'm sure there was a fan before you, and
before her, and before him.....the fact is the "hype"
will die down at some point, but He will always have
more fans from this point on. THAT IS A GOOD THING!
Good for him, and good for all of "us" (whoever we
are).
Listen Erin,(and all Mobilites) if you've read this
far yer probably either REALLY angry, or embarassed or
something. I do apologize for rambling, and for
pointing a finger. I'm right around Moby's age. When
I was younger I had some of the same feelings as you
with some artists/musicians that began to "make" it,
reaching a larger audience. I wanted to tell
everyone, "I saw it first!" or "I heard that years
ago!". I'm glad you've been listening to Moby as long
as you have. Good for you. Do realize that somewhere
down the line you will hear a great piece of music and
then find out that this artist existed for years
before YOU found out about him/her. It happens all
the time. There's nothing wrong with it. Moby's
albums before "Play" ARE brilliant. It just so
happens that "Play" encompasses SOMETHING that even
more people can identify with and enjoy and are
touched by. THAT IS A GOOD THING. I have a friend
who couldn't really get into Moby's older albums, BUT
HE KEPT LISTENING and he loves "Play". Can't get
enough of it. I think that's great.
Sorry people. Certain topics can touch a nerve. I'm
not trying to be Holier than anyone. Keep on keepin'
the keepin' on! Listen, love, and learn.....

Let me speak from the viewpoint of someone who fell in love with Moby's
music because of "Play". I never purchased a Moby CD until I heard tracks
off of play back when it was FIRST released. The local public radio station
here in Detroit played a bunch of tracks on the electronic music show Chuck
Horn hosts. I instantly bought
"Play" as I was so stunned by what I heard. I then caught Moby in concert
here on the "Play" tour and was sold. I've since bought any Moby CD I can
get my hands on, LOVE them all and GUARAN-friggin-TEE you will now purchase
anything Moby does. I am now a fan for life. If you have a problem with
that because "Play" was my first purchase that's your problem I guess. I'm
sure there will be many who will never buy another thing Moby does because
they want another "Bodyrock".
I am VERY picky and VERY loyal to artists I appreciate. I became a Prince
fan with Purple Rain and watched as all the IDIOT general public SHEEP
dropped off that bandwagon after he went in totally opposite musical
directions instead of giving them the "Purple Rain II" they wanted. I loved
him more for it, his music after Purple Rain was WAYYYYY better than Purple
Rain anyways. To this day, despite his idiocy and shitty treatment of his
fans, I support Prince's music. Moby will be the same way. I'm in it for
the long haul, do I not count just because I joined the game late and
wasn't there "from the beginning"? I wish I had been, I shudder to think of
the concerts I've missed, excitement over all the releases when they were
new, etc.

Hello,
I just joined the list, so please forgive me if this is a redundant
question. I was fortunate enough to see Moby on the Mtv Campus Invasion
tour April 18th. However, I wasn't able to buy any t-shirts, posters, etc.
because I didn't have any cash on me! Does anyone know where I can pick up
anything from the tour?
Thanks :)

Erin and the rest,
I do remember that feeling from a long time ago (being about Moby's age). I
considered myself a fan "of-the-first-hour" (a Dutch term, don't know the English
equivalent) of U2, Depeche Mode, Cocteau Twins, Nick Cave, R.E.M., and many, MANY
more so called 'underground' bands. Anything new on the scene had my approval,
(sometimes just) because they were 'innovating'. The ones mentioned made their
way into the 'business'. A lot of them didn't, or split up before getting the
success they deserved so much (back then, but still nowadays - in my opinion).
As for Moby, I wasn't a big 'raver' at the time he made records under obscure
names as Barracuda, Voodoo Child or The Brotherhood. But when GO! hit the charts
- - and the dance floors! - back in 1991 I was taken away and 'danced meself
legless' (I have to admit I was and still am a Twin Peaks fan). The first CD's I
taped were Ambient and Everything is wrong (re)mixed. The first thing I ever
BOUGHT was the Rare B-sides CD, just because of the bonus CD: Go! The remixes.
Does this make me a slow starter, 'Moby-wise', or am I still way ahead of the
'newcomers' you despise so much? I bet a lot of people who were fans
"of-the-first-hour" nowadays loathe the direction his musical interests have
taken. Let's take, for instance, the album Play: hardly any techno tracks, too
many so-called-blues-sample-based nonsense tracks, sloppy lyrics in the
(way-over-the-top-romantic) tracks that are written by himself. They'd be
gnashing their teeth and putting on that good old Barracuda or Party Time and
dance the night away! Meanwhile cursing at anybody that ever liked or bought
Play.
Enough of this who-was-first-in-recognising-the-boy-wonder talk.
The one thing I'm missing in this discussion is the fact that Play is a truly
diverse and exceptional album. It does fit the spirit of these times, where
artists tend to explore (and mix) the past as well as the future of music (after
all, this is Y2K!). Just because of its diversity (e.g. compare the two singles
Bodyrock and Porcelain), this album affects so many people. Does it make any
difference whether their first encounter with Moby was a late night radio program
(hosted by some DJ that knows the dance scene inside out) somewhere back in the
early nineties, or a car advertisement in 2000? The fact remains that Moby's
music tingles their senses. Please don't blame people for being affected, just
like you once!
Rob
P.S. Sorry for the tantamount of brackets in this 'essay' ... have to practice my
'essaying' ;-)

I totally agree. My friends and I at work were just discussing today how
awesome the duck solo was. We had a rubber duck there in the lab for some
reason but it didn't squeak like Moby's cool duck. Did he ask you all to do
the wave? I thought it was really neat that he recorded us doing the wave.
The people I sat by were complete idiots as well. They whole time they kept
yelling stupid things like "YOU SUCK" and "I AM MOBY'S LOVECHILD". They
received major eye-rolling from me. I tried to ignore the hicks as much as
I could.
A few days later I was at one of my classes and one guy was bragging that he
went to the concert and I said big deal I was there too and I met Moby and
Bush. Another girl went too and criticized me for going just to see Moby.
The guy said "Moby? why him? he ONLY has two good songs." Ignoramous ape.
Let him stick to what he likes so that when Moby comes again headlining his
own tour, I won't have to put up with those unenlightened twits. After all,
to each his own. Just don't ever criticize me for listening to good music
which you might not like. And leave me alone when I'm thoroughly enjoying a
WONDERFUL Moby show full of moving music and amazing lighting effects,
especially if you're one of those red-necked moronic hicks. :)

Moby was an absolute music god last night in San Diego.
Too bad he started early - my husband and I missed half the set.
The rubber duck solo was quite inventive. I personally liked the video
camera he pulled out.
As usual, Greta was fantastic.
I can't believe there were so many losers sitting in the stands. Stupid
Bush fans - they couldn't even get into Moby's act.
Not to mention all the bitchy women running around half-naked.
It reminded me NEVER to attend a college show again.
Bunch of immature morons.

Subject: (mobility) Jones soda
Hello everyone. Did I read correctly that Moby is on
a Jones soda label? I thought someone had wrote that.
Also, Moby was in the April issue of Instyle
magazine. There is a pic of him and jewel from the
Musicares tribute to Sir Elton John. Under a "grammy"
section it says that "Moby, appropriately, made the
nautical-theme scene," referring to one of the
afterparties at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, which
was rented by the Warner Music Group. Then he's
mentioned AGAIN. This time it was an article called
"suite dreams, whoever said bigger is better never
stayed at one of these discreetly glamorous boutique
hotels". Moby's picture is next to a picture of Rufus
Wainwright. Apparently they stay at the Ace.
"located in seattle's Belltown neighborhood (the
birthplace of grunge), the hotel features a spartan,
futuristic design and attracts a varied
clientele-trendsetting artists, Web site designers,
snowboarders, filmmakers and nomads-who like to don
their Pumas and explore the area's Pike Place Market,
the Space Needle, and the chronically hip shops and
cafes. Spotted: Alternative-music artists MOBY, Rufus
Wainwright, and Propellerheads. Extras: Each room is
tastefully appointed with the Kama Sutra and a supply
of condoms."
I never thought I'd see the day that Moby was talked
about like a celebrity. Of course, there's no focus
on him as a musician, but WOW, we should all get plane
tickets immediately and see how the "alternative
artists" live!!!

I don't know how many of you watch The WB.. well. I do and (yes i enjoy

earlier episode and then again on a brand new one..
I'm sure someone has mentioned this before, but anyways :-) I thought it
was cool.

I don't normally diss bands but that is two more than Nirvana-lite, sorry I
meant Bush, are ever going to make. Never like a band named after your
genitals either. Otherwise, all my favourite bands would be called,
C*ck,B*lls,C*nt and so on.
