Subject: (mobility) Moby and all of this damned Publicity. T/F?
I am quite disappointed. I am listening to the "Hottest Hits" channel on my
tv right now (digital cable), and guess what song is on? Bodyrock. In a
way, i really like all the publicity that Moby is getting. He deserves to
FINALLY get props for his brilliant music that we have all loved for so
long... but in another way, I feel as if it is almost a straight out diss to
all of us. We've always been his biggest fans who've been crazy about his
music from the very beginning, and now all of these newcomers are "in love"
with his him just because they liked Play. They would probably like all of
his other albums just as much, but unfortunately, they don't get the
publicity that Play gets. It seems that right now Mobester is a trend and
people are going crazy for him. I personally feel insulted by all of this
being a long time fan. Am I just crazy, or do any of you guys feel the same?

There's a Moby contest on this radio station based in San Francisco. It's Alice (97.3). You have to email webster@aliceradio.com and in 9 words tell why you want to see Moby. If you win you go to los angeles and see a little private concert or something like that. I think theyre choosing 15 people to go. I'm so uncreative though, I can't think of anything good to write! Well, you're supposed to be 21 which I am not. Oh well, i'll try anyway!

Hey everyone-
I'm supposed to tell you guys about myself.
My name is Alex Jepson.
My age is 16.
I have the CD Play and Everything is Wrong.
I first heard Moby at Borders (Book and Audio store here in Florida).
I like all music on some level. I really like RadioHead, DMB, Modest Mouse,
Our Lady Peace, Live, Talking Heads, BNL, and Blink 182.
Um, I'm involved in theater. Moby Rocks. I'm on the Orlando/UCF Shakespeare
Festival's Young Company Executive Board. Yeah, music moves my life.
Have a good evening/morning/afternoon.

my thoughts on it:
more power to him. i mean, sure, all the "i just heard porcelain on an
advert for 'party of five', so i went to sam good and asked who did the
'so this is goodbye' song that's on tv, and they sold me 'play', and now
i'm moby's biggest fan! by the way, i heard he'd put out another album
before play, is this true?!" get to be really frikkin' obnoxious, but it's
not like moby was like "how can i get popular and alienate my real fans by
flooding the fan-base with stupid teenyboppers", he just kept making the
music he loves, and it panned out well. maybe it'll last thru future
albums, maybe not.
also as far as moby's current popularity being based on marketing more
than anything, well, yeah, the marketing's the base for it, but this
prolly couldn't of happened with his earlier albums. i can't really see
npr and the like jumping on his earlier albums the way they did, and a lot
of the more straight-up electronica or punk basesis of a lot of his
earlier stuff is a lot more disorienting to a good bit of the audience
play has recieved, especially the older crowd (not meaning to be agist,
but it seems to be true).
anyhow, the real fans will be differentiatable by still being around in a
few years. (or maybe be dealing with a new flock of trend-hopping fans,
but again, if so, more power to moby.)
just don't stop listening to him 'cause you don't like the new scene,
anti-trend hopping's just as bad as trend-hopping afterall.
