So, I'm going to say the obvious....
this is the MOBY listserv, where the topic of
discussion is MOBY. Most of us do have other
tastes outside of MOBY, but the main focus HERE
is still MOBY.
So, shove off! And leave us to crawl in the mud.
10 points for anyone who can identify the last
statement.

why are these people talking all about trance and why we need to listen
to it? i've been spinning progressive trance and house for years, only to
have someone tell me to listen to MORE of it? there are only 24 hours in
a day dude...and moby has never been trance. my guess is that some punter
spotted the prefecto dub of "natural blues" and thought moby was some
trancer.
and just for the record, oakenfold is mostly a dj, not a producer, though
he has done a few remixes and dodgy originals.
i've been an asshole long enough...back to lurking and hitting "d" a lot...

Hello,
For everyone contemplating removing themselves from this list I urge them to
try the Digest version. One of the reasons why I like it so much is that I
can just skim through so many posts in one email and end up just deleting
one large post versus many smaller posts. It partially alleviates the
problem of when somebody replies to a post but does not add anything other
than an "I agree with you!"
Also, it might be too late but I wanted to try and convince the powers that
be to make the US version of the porcelain single(there had better be one)
an immense and unbelievably awesome single. This song will make v2 records
SO MUCH MONEY (hint hint Scott) that they HAVE to put some work into it.
Not that no work went into Natural Blues but comparing it to the US version
of Bodyrock and Honey/Run On it was VERY DISAPPOINTING.
I would also like to thank all of the members of this for their adventures
at the Campus invasion tours and also for posting links to cool Moby
artilcles/interviews etc. I would never find any of this stuff without you
guys.

Monty Python? Why, yes I suppose so! I was
thinking more from The Book of Chuang Tzu, a
Taoist text and one of the more humorous
passages... ah well, so much for culture. :)

I for one did not buy the V2 version of Natural Blues... I bought the imports
instead... why because they had more tracks and more b-sides... I didn't care
about the higher import costs.
For one... it would be cool to but those two promo only Natural Blues mixes
on there... Why Does My Heart Feel So BAd vinyl only mix...
Then 2 b-sides that have not been released... and mixes of Porceliain... man
would that be kicking.
And the remixers in my opinon were the best so far on Why Does My Heart...
how about soliciting some hot ones.... Club 69 (Peter R & Hex Hector & Victor
Caldrone & Sasha).... Dario G... Matt Darey...
So many things that would have drawn me and i believe other so by the V2
version over the Mute.

Terr I agree with what you are saying about the Natural Blues US
version.. I too didn't buy it (I didn't buy the UK cd2 because I only
wanted the b-sides). But I'm assuming that V2's primary audience is
the general public. Correct me if I'm wrong!
And the general public who aren't Moby fanatics might not even realize
that there is an import version and might not be willing to pay more
for it when they just want to hear Natural Blues.
There are a lot of B-Sides that weren't released in the US and that's
too bad!!
Please do pack on as much as you guys can on the Porcelain single
because it could be HUGE! Put on any of those previously neglected
B-Sides cuz they are all great.. especially Spirit and Running.
BTW I think it's great that Scott is on here to represent V2. They
really got their act together and appear to care about their artist
Moby. I would miss a lot of Moby appearances without V2's support
here.

over at the TRL page, it lists "Bodyrock" instead of

it! we wanna see more Moby on TRL! heehee, they also
have the Groove Armada video up there ;) but im not
voting for it cuz they censor it turning "Shakin that
ass" into "Shakin that thang" which is terrible
censorship, you most definitely can say "ass" on
commercial radio and MTV, so why must they censor it
out here, cuz they say it 100 times? sheesh. and
anyway MOBYs up there so who cares about Groove Armada

What exactly is "over-exposure"? You probably get more exposure to moby by
being on this list (a voluntary act) than you do from mainstream media.
Just seeing him in a CK ad, he has a few interviews on MTV and his video is
played everyonce in a while doesn't constitute sufficient exposure, much
less over exposure. I"m sure that if someone actually caluclated the
proportion of air time he is receiving, say on MTV, it would fall far short
of acts such as NSYNC, britney spears, or even Santana. According to Moby
himself, only about 7-8 months ago did he ever have a song played on US
radio. Face it, Moby is NOT a sensation, he is NOT receiving adequate
exposure, much less overexposure.

Why does debating with someone or calling attention to their lack of thought
before speech automatically a flame? Personal attacts are certainly not
welcome on this list, nor are they constructive. I, nor did anyone else
attact someone else personally, I attacked their words, which are always
open and vulnerable. If I can't constructively argue someone elses position
without being brow beaten by the sensibility polic, then decent is
nullified, thought is stagnant, and freedom is lost.

please d/l the interview from 120 minutes, in it Moby explains that he has
ALWAYS driven, and that he continues to drive even without a liscence. The
fact that mute released it has nothing to do with moby. I'm sure that they
had the right to release singles without Moby's expressed concent, create
cover art, etc... Even if he did have something to do with it, it would be
better interpreted as trying to protect his art. Many ad men and second
rate music makers immitate other's music for commercials and such(in fact I
heard a porcelain clone for some insurance company the other day). The use
of Go or a similar sounding track could be interpreted as a sort of
infringement, to reciprocate, Moby put out the NOCAR CD.

If the "otherside" is silenced it's because of good arguementation, not
intimidation. If someone on this list is intimidated by mere words, then
they have other personality problems extrinsic of what we say here. I
repeat at this point that neither *I*, nor anyone else whos messages I've
read have flamed anyone. Why do you interpret rebuttles to someone's ideas
as flames?
From the ShackofZaq:
>>>i guess what i was getting at with my origional post was that i see more
and more people thinking that it's OK to turn the other cheek in the face
of materialism...i THOUGHT moby would be an
instrument for change, someone who could challenge our (american)
materilism and unthinking consumption.<<<
Why do modern liberals think that a lack of animosity toward materialism,
big business, capitalism, is from a lack of awareness or complacency? Did
it ever occur to you that YOUR viewpoint is wrong? In a free society, ie a
FREE MARKET, every one has the same opportunity. Private property is not a
coercive force on others when they have the opportunity to gain for
themselves. Shallow attitudes are from a lack of education, whose primary
determinant is personal ambition(a child will only learn if he/she wants
to). "materialism" is the only alternative when one realizes and rejects
the irrationality of mysticism.

Yeah- this debate about the CK ad is definitely very interesting! I don't
know- this is a crazy situation- we have to cut him some slack I do

ANYONE, not just Moby in particular, does something similar to this, it does
in a small way or maybe to other people in a big way, suck a little. So

I never said that the general populace doesn't look to media for role
models. I simply stated that I don't need a musician or actor or other
entertainer to pattern my life after. Just because Moby writes a few good
songs and doesn't believe in slaughtering animals for food, he's not
automatically a saint. (contrary to what some of you seem to believe)
Honestly, i'm sure moby is a nice guy, but how many of you know him on a
truly friendly level? How many of you have talked to moby for more than 20
or 30 minutes once after a concert? I just don't see the point in using
good songs, well written cd liner notes and a chance meeting after a concert
to decide that this guy will be my role model.
