I must admit I'm not happy with the over-exposure of the "Moby-product"
nowadays...
It's just that when I became a Moby fan in '95 he just had these great moral
values I
was kind of jealous of, and now it hurts me to see them change. Oh, for all
ya flamers,
this is not a rant against Moby but about myself, and it probably will also
express the
feelings of some other people who by now have been reduced to a small heap
of ashes
because of all the flames :)
It's just that most artists tend to get more "real" about life when
approaching their 40s.
Most artists usually GET some "good" values, like stop using drugs or having
a kid or
whatever. Moby gets more "real" about life by dropping his most extreme
ideals, and
I'm just having a hard time dealing with that because those were the things
I was
jealous of. Also the car commercial thing... I was shocked when I heard
about it.
Did you know Mute once released a whole single with the cat# CDNOCAR1 just
to set straight that in a 1994 car commercial it was NOT Moby's Go that was
played?
It has a sticker saying "This record does not sell cars" and the CD has the
image of
a "forbidden for cars" road sign. It's hard to adapt to such a
sudden change,
some people are better in it than others. So please stop flaming
individuals because
I know there are more people like me who are still having a hard time
adapting and
are now scared to express their opinion because they already see some list
members
refilling their flame-throwers. Please be as understanding to these people
as you are
to Moby's new moral values and everything will be allright :)

hello everyone! i was the one at the miami concert with a black boa on...
with glasses. asked moby to sign my book bag. me knows... i am a HUGE geek!
i was shocked to see how shy he was, specially after i saw his performance.
he was running across the stage back and forth back and forth. i love how he
said "thankyouthankyouthankyou" at the end of the song.
woops, gotta go.

one more go...
i guess what i was getting at with my origional post was that i see more
and more people thinking that it's OK to turn the other cheek in the face
of materialism. we need more people in the public eye who refuse to bow
down to big buisness, who can uphold their views while at the same time
getting popular. unfortunatly, we look up to entertainers to show us how
to live. what i've been saying is that i THOUGHT moby would be an
instrument for change, someone who could challenge our (american)
materilism and unthinking consumption.
for whatever reasons he did it, moby should realise that some people DO
LOOK UP TO HIM. or at least did. he probably couldn't care less if he
loses a long time fan or two if he can get hundreds more in the process.
i guess we can't all just love him for his music when he's had such a
positive impact on our lives in the past. i can understand how all of you
new moby fans (who stopped reading this long ago...) just don't
understand what all the fuss is about.
ok, i think i'm done.
now we can get back to the oh so important "moby looked at me once" and
"my top 2000 favorite moby songs about being happy" posts. i think they
say it all for me...

Just because he has a positive effect on your life does NOT mean that he is
perfect; it does NOT mean that he has to think about pleasing everyone else
all of the time. As everyone knows, you just can't do that.

I would hardly call doing a cK ad a billboard for
materialism, at least insofar that everyone is
affected by materialism.
>for whatever reasons he did it, moby should

It's not that I disagree with you. Someone
started a very ugly rumor on campus that Moby
died of a heroin overdose, which stuck me pretty
hard. Since then, I've taken everything in
stride. However, becuase someone looks up to him
does not mean that he should adjust his life to
fit their standards. It's making a idol out of
him, which I refuse to believe is the price of
fame. It's not like he's trying to lose fans,
but if you choose to turn away, that's fine.
>i guess we can't all just love him for his

I AM a long time moby fan, and I don't see what
all the fuss is about. To place that kind of
idealism on any man is a hard thing to do. He
can't be perfect. He won't be perfect. He will
make mistakes. He will comprise principles for
the greater good. He is NOT prideful enough to
stand for his principles if the benefits are
greater (like wearing cashmere and leather in the
cK ad to give money for charity). Ideals are
guides, not applicable to all situations. It
seems like a contradiction in terms, but ideals
in the idyllic sense ::grin:: don't exist, as not
one can live up to them. There will always be a
situation where you can't live up to them.
Also, about the cK ad... this was a situation
where he could have said that wearing leather is
wrong, but the fact of the matter is that no more
people were "swayed" to wear leather because of
it. Anyone who holds the same views wouldn't
have cared, really.
>ok, i think i'm done. now we can get back to

I'm with you on this, though. Maybe I'm just
getting hold or I'm too cynical, but stories of
shy Moby signing stuff seems empty. However, it
does appeal to more people. I am a minority in
this. I'd rather meet Moby for coffee or dinner
than after a concert, anyway.

WE? I'm afraid thats quite a sweeping generalization there.
If you have to turn to the entertainment industry to find your role models,
that is unfortunate.

not to make light of this comment, but if you still are contemplating
Moby-collection suicide, please, send it all over to me...people contradict
themselves and change their minds all the time man...it's part of human
nature...as you recall..there was 5000 dollars riding on this which moby said
would go to charity...he believed in it..to me, he learned how to play the
system and used it to benefit others instead of the "haves"...sit back, relax
and take this ad as moby's way of telling us that CK and thin ladies are
simply that.....love...elie

when you say he kissed you,
was this just a kiss on the cheek
or was it on the lips? i ask b/c i've gotten
one on the cheek before when he hugged me.
