Subject: Re: (mobility) Quick question
Mr. Dog,
I was attempting to cast doubt where assumptions were being made. While it
may construed that I was saying that Moby is broke and struggling, I was
merely trying to highlight that, as fans and outsiders, we don't know what
whether his bankroll is small, medium, large, or humongous. There have been
many hugely popular and successful artists who aren't loaded with cash, for
various reasons. I'll dig some up if you don't believe me. Why would I
highlight this, you ask? To what relevancy? A lot of the "sellout"
arguements seemed to me that the accuser felt Moby is living excessively,
therefore hypocritically. Everybody will give you a different take on
excess. What is too much? For you? For him? To each his own.
You mentioned that some people got a head full of steam after reading your
first two lines, without actually realizing that you were asking a question.
Well, I wasn't saying Moby is poor, I was saying "you don't know, where do
you get 'too much = sellout' from?"
But even that was not my point. My feeling is that I don't have the right to
judge Moby's decisions, or to feel negatively about him because he's making
money from commercial things like CK ads. What was it John Turpin said about
logs and specks? I was expressing my ideas in a way that contrasts what I
was responding to, and perhaps I got snide. Apologies if any feelings were
hurt.
Please understand that I recognize that anybody can judge Moby. I'm not
judging _you_ for judging. I'm just disagreeing, judging your arguements.
I realize this post is excessive(!) and wordy. Sorry about that, but
apparently I haven't been coming across clearly.
Peace,
Steve

Hey folks,
I noticed a commercial that said VH1 was going to be showing all the
awards that usually aren't televised. Maybe they'll have the moby one.
Also... If anyone is interested, I got the lucky chance to talk to Billy
Corgan yesterday. The Pumpkins are one of my favorites. They rank up there
with MOBY for me. Naturally, the Moby remix of 1979 is one of my favorite
tracks. If you'll remember, Moby did that for the pumpkins for free on the
condition that they would do something for him. I asked Billy if they had
any plans to work on any projects with him in the near future. He told me
that He and Moby had had a "falling out" and but that it was through and in
the past so who knows.
I'm curious about this falling out. When I met Moby last summer, he said
that he'd been trying to get Billy to work with him for about 2 years.
Maybe this little riff was caused by Billy being unable or unwilling to
schedule some time for Moby.
Anyway... I thought some of you might be interested.. If not, just ignore
:)

Sue me if I'm wrong, but why does it seem Corgan has a falling out with
everyone he meets :)
I used to like him, until I read an article in Rolling Stone, about him
commenting on film scores.
He came across as thinking he was this musical genius who could make any
kind of music.
Anyways, it just seems he makes new friends, and then u hear that they had a
wittle fight.

very true. Although i love their music, I've always figured he would be a
real prick in person. He was very polite to me yesterday though. However,
thats quite a bit different from an actual friendly relationship. I'm glad
that I only got to talk to him for a few minutes. I'm sure that prolonged
exposure would only serve to reveal his annoying personality. :)
however.. even moby would have to agree - billy's got a cool haircut! :)

I agree, but after reading all the tos and fros, I think all this is only
harmless speculation - not judgement. You can say to people "look to your
own improvements" but I think the way you experience other people and how
other people experience you do shape your ideas.
It would be scary if everyone just accepted everything without ever
questioning the merits. Although, we are only talking about silly CK
apocalyptic, wasteland photos (Did anyone else think that!? - a tad
flattening after the wig extravaganza!)
As to the money thing, I still don't understand why it has to exist. :)

Subject: (mobility) Recent Acquisitions
Yeah, more recent acquisitions from me. There
seemed to be a lack of this lately, so I thought
I would give everyone more crap to read. And
though some of you don't like the long, drawn out
reviews, I do and others do, so skim the titles
and be done with it. :)
Right, off we go.
I picked up the entire Waveform catalog, which is
an ambient dub label (www.waveformhq.com). I'm
not going to cover *all* the CDs I got (18), but
I will hit the highlights here. By the way, full
MP3s of these people are available for download
at AudioHighway.com. I beg you, go check them
out and support the label.
Kozo - Planned Penetration
* This is a great album, hands down. The use of
jazz, trip-hop beats, and a bit of Aphex beat
smashing creates a neat sound. The songs spoke
to me on different levels, so don't be surprised
if you don't have the same reaction as me. My
tastes suck anyway. :)
Liquid Zen - Liquid Zen
* This album is like a cross between Pink Floyd,
Portishead, and some alien from another planet.
Great stuff, great lyrics, I love it! The album
really sets an ambience in the room, and will
leave you thinking for days to come.
Various Artists - Two A.D.
* This is *THEE* necessary ambient dub album.
The songs on here are timeless, and I can't
remember why I sold my earlier copy in life. Oh
yeah, the drugs. Anyway, it's a great
introduction to the Waveform label and ambient
dub in general, IMHO.
Loop Guru - Duniya
* A great world mix with some heavy beats for
ambient dub. Kind of like a larger scope Deep
Forest, though not as smooth. This is potent
beats, not groove beats.
And not from Waveform...
Moby - That's When I Reach For My Revolver
(The Aussie Edition)
* Moby's Mix on here (unavailable *almost*
anywhere else :) ) is great, hands down. I hope
to use this in one of my future sets as a harder
trance anthem. I could do without the Psychotic
V-Gun Edit, or whatever. It just seemed to
scream to me.
Moby - Come on Baby (Promo)
* Include the Eskimos and Egypt 12" version,
which is spades. The 7" version is lame, it
doesn't have any of building or destroying of the
12" in true radio edit form.
Deep Forest - Deep Forest (The Single)
* This is the single, not their first album. The
three mixes on here are crucial to any collector,
adding more of the mystique that is Deep Forest.
Certainly worth the effort of finding, if you
come across it.
BTW, I have the three new Astralwerks items
pre-ordered, so expect a review of those as well.
Check out samples at: www.astralwerks.com.
In Astralwerks news, however... :)

* Uberzone signs to Astralwerks
We are pleased to announce the addition of Los
Angeles based artist Uberzone to our roster. Q is
the mastermind behind Uberzone, and is considered
by many to have single-handedly created the
"funky break-beat" sound, which has since been
adopted by the UK under the moniker "big beat".
SPIN magazine called Uberzone one of six
producers to create "the biggest beats ever". In
the last few years, Uberzone has released several
critically acclaimed singles and EP's on various
independent labels, with the most recent being
the single "The Freaks". He has also released a
slew of well-received remixes for top acts like
Sarah McLachlan, The Crystal Method, and Herbie
Hancock as well as co-producing a track with
Afrika Bambaata, entitled "2 Kool 4 Skool". Q
started writing and composing music at the age of
fifteen. A love of bands like Kraftwerk, Depeche
Mode, and early hip hop motivated him to develop
skills in programming and engineering. This
eventually led to the playful yet intelligent
Uberzone sound that meticulously blends chunky
beats, techno, and acid house. Uberzone's
high-energy live performances have been featured
at gigs throughout the US and Europe. He will be
performing live at this year's Astralwerks Winter
Music Conference Party. Uberzone's highly
anticipated debut album is tentatively scheduled
for release in July 2000.

platinum selling, double Grammy nominated record,
"You've Come A Long Way, Baby," Astralwerks will
be releasing "On The Floor At The Boutique" a DJ
Mix CD by Fatboy Slim. "On The Floor At The
Boutique" is a live DJ Mix CD recorded at the
infamous Big Beat Boutique in Brighton, England.
The album is Fatboy Slim personified. It's a DJ
set of hands-in-the-air, booty-shaking anthems
that exemplifies just why Fatboy Slim is one of
the biggest DJs in the world. The album will be
released on March 28, and the American version
contains an enhanced track featuring a video for
the song "Build It Up, Tear It Down," which has
never been released in America. Here is the full

home in Brighton, England working on new material
at his House of Love studio. The new album, which
is tentatively set for release in the Fall, is
the follow up to "You've Come A Long Way, Baby."
* A Night At The Mansion
Following the success of the two "Respect Is
Burning" CDs, Astralwerks will be releasing "A
Night at the Mansion" - a DJ mix cd by Dimitri
from Paris. The album, which is presented by

scheduled to be released in late March or early
