Oh thanks for this. It was great. The quality of the video was a bit
choppy, but you could sort of get the feel of what was going on. Although
i do believe that it is completely impossible to capture the energy of a
live show onto videotape.
It was a bit hard to navigate through that site, since i don't know a lick
of french, but i managed to find some lovely things -- the interview with
him is great... they talk with him a lot about the internet and email and
online technology. and they even had two mp3 downloads of "Memory Gospel"
and "Spirit".
Thanks.

Moby's never come across this way to me. i think that he's a very social
person and he enjoys people. He's exhibited this everywhere. He makes money
doing something that he loves ~ how is that wrong? His liner notes simply
state what he believes in life (I haven't seen or heard about him nawing on a
slab of cow yet).. And he gives people his reasons. I don't think he's
trying to brainwash people. he lets you know where he's coming from to make
your own decisions. With all the things I've read, I've never really agreed
with what he was saying but I could see where he was coming from. I don't
see why people are so hot on this sell out, hypocritic thing. He's still the
same person, he has changed his ideals.. just let him enjoy his success
without your judgement people.

Pleased that you liked it :)
But i should explained how to navigate through the site. But i think that
you've seen everything relevant on Moby on this site.
BTW if someone find any other other concert videos and especially in mpeg
format, you know where you can leave a mail huh !

Hi everyone!
(I'm sorry if I'm bringing up a subject that's just been discussed. But I'm
new to the list.)
When I was on this list for about a year ago, there was some talk about
THANKS 2 being produced (a CD containing covers and remixes of Moby songs,
made by people on this list - a continuation from THANKS 1). I myself made
a contribution and sent on a CDR to the person who was going to put the
whole thing together. Then I don't know what happened. Does anybody know?
If the project was ever finished, I'd like to know how I can get hold of a
copy...
Cheers!
Johan.

ok i was listening to the Electro Circus last nite,
and well remember sometime last year when Dave The
Wave had a leaked CD-R copy of "Play" before he knew
its title, or any of the songs titles on it, and next
week he did and he announced it was called "Play" aand
that the song he'd been playing was "Porcelain" and i
broke all this news to all of you? well, it turns out
DTW got in lots of trouble with Moby's management for
doing that ;) the reason he mentioned all that is
becuz BT gave him a demo of "Movemeent In Still Life"
which is weird, im pretty sure that came out in UK
already? i saw a revue for it in Muzik..... anyway, he
was playing stuff from it and damn its good. the song
"Shame" is this fullblown pop-rock song, with guitars
and drums and BT singin and everything. they should
release that as a single and promote it to rock radio,
so BT would be a rock star, thatd be cool, jsut like
if they promotoed "South Side" cuz we all know that
would blow up huge. they could put the Gwen Stefani
version on the b-side or sumthin.
anyway, he also played a weird remix of Pearl Jam
"Better Man" !?!?! he said it came out a long time ago
and was recently ressurected from the dead by Sasha.
wow! thats crazy. even crazier than the little-known
remix of Dave Mathews "So Much To Say" that Hani did a
few years ago. that was strange.....
its weird hearing him play all these weird bootleg
remixes. he also played this hard jungle remix of
Eminem "My Name Is". and he also played Fun Lovin
Criminals "Scooby Snacks" just in the middle of the
set late at nite. weird, i havent heard that in
forever. thank god for this guy tho, while he SUCKS as
a dj, he totally rips apart commercial radio, and
anybody whose willing to play TLC a capella over
Mulder or impossible-to-find bootleg jungle mixes of
Fugees on a "modern" "rock" station deserves tons of
respect.
alright, i'll stop kissing his ass and tell you to
check out the February issue of "The Source" becuz
theres a Boondocks comic in there. and did u hear
about that new game show on UPN "Gimme Dat Money"? its
gonna be hosted by ODB!

I would have to totally agree here and as a point of comparison I will use
another of my favorite artists, Prince, as an example. I have been a Prince
fan much longer than a Moby fan. I've been a hardcore Prince collector for
15 plus years now, whereas Moby I just started collecting last year after I
fell in love with "Play". I've read Moby's liner nots and agree with a lot
of them. However, I am not vegetarian and don't feel the least bit judged
by Moby's views. He tells you what they are and how he feels and basically
leaves it up to you to make up your own mind. I've never seen him say you
are BAD and WRONG if you don't feel the way he does.
Prince, on the other hand, has become this self righteous moralistic
asshole (as opposed to the plain asshole he once was. Yes I love his music,
he's a brilliant musician but he is an asshole for the most part). His web
site preaches his views of
veganism, Christianity and "what you must do to be a member of the NPG".
His concerts have turned into preach fests, shit during a recent
performance of "Purple Rain" on his pay per view special he went on a long
rant on how Jesus is the Lord before going into the songs. I appreciate his
right to his point of view but he DOES shove it down his fans throats
telling them this is how they should live and if they don't they aren't a
true fan. THIS is wrong and a big reason why I am now turned off by him. A
man who has cussed like mad, sung about the filthiest sex acts is now
preaching about how wrong it is to swear, and judging his fans if they don't
agree with his views.
THAT is the difference. I've never heard Moby say, "believe this way or you
aren't a real fan of mine" whereas Prince says "act this way or you aren't
a true member of my fan base", That is wrong and it is alienating to your
fans. I like the way Moby gets his views across, I've never felt them being
shoved down my throat like Prince does.

you know..someone pointed something out to me last nite...Moby IS getting a
lot of appreciation for his new cd...and i responded saying that it is a good
thing and it's about time and she quickly says that it's not because when too
many people start noticing a good musician, it doesn't become "cool"
anymore....she is also my good friend's little sister that goes to high
school...things like that occur with people in high school...everyone wants
to be the first to discover things and then keep it lo-key for a long
time....who are we to judge.....i just think it's pretty crazy...are we going
to suddenly see a drop in mobility members because Moby is not "cool"
anymore? i hope we're better than that....peace....elie

It's not called shame.. it's called Satellite.. The whole album kicks some
serious ass... The japanese version has a bonus disk plus the normal uk
version.. and rumor has it that the us version will becompletely different...

that's an interesting thought, when your actions end up undermining your
message for a percentage of people. I guess I think that doing
something/saying something is better than nothing. But the extent to which
you wish to live out your ideals is highly subjective and sitting on my ass
in a stupid job probably doesn't give me credibility to make any comments!
He does lose me on the socio-political front but I think the music has a
spirit of its own and that's what we all appreciate. Mind you, I have no
idea who he really is, so I guess we are only talking about his image. I
don't think one person's ideas can really direct a long term course of
thinking in other people. The strongest changes (hopefully for the better)
tend to sweep me up almost unconsciously and the decisions are essentially
mine not what someone else tells me is the preferable view. I think that's
true for a lot of people. I always remember when I was helping out on a
Animal Lib stall at a silverchair concert and there was almost a hysteria
for the merchandise caused by the emotion whipped up into a frenzy by
daniel johns. As powerful as the music artform is, I couldn't help be a
little cynical about how long this passion for animal lib would last beyond
the concert. I think it is easy to burden people like Moby with living up
to our ideals when really we are just frustrated at ourselves and our
inactive predicament! Projecting our own frustrations - do you think?
I think the reason I enjoy being on this list, apart from finding out which
possible CD purchases I can make! ...is also people's opinions on related
things, when you're being sucked into the senseless void during the day at
work, or whereever, these emails are better than the most colourful posters
I could hang up.... that's almost soppy!

I just decided to play a video I have of Moby in which he is interviewed
(back in 1995 though...) and I suddenly heard a little clip of him talking
which I felt pertained to our current discussion:
"My whole life is a contradiction. I'm hoping that as I get older I'll
figure out better ways of - whatever - integrating my beliefs and my
orientation toward life.
But at present, you know, it's like I'm an environmentalist but yet I make
records. (Laughs) You know, hundreds of thousands of pieces of plastic that
get shipped around the world. And posters made out of, you know, unbleached
paper, or bleached paper, and bad, you know, nasty, toxic inks.
I'm part of the system that I wish would go away."
I'm sure that, being an intelligent person, he extends this self-analyzation
to other areas of his life.
