If this was the MTV Music Awards, I'd agree with
you. However, these are members of the Academy,
so we can throw NIN right out the window. Beck
is Beck, and it's not refined. It's down between
Moby and Tori. Since I haven't heard To Venus
and Back, I really can't say.

Well considering all the raves that NIN has gotten, I'm not sure.. "The
Academy." Sounds so snooty doesn't it? I get the image of aging British
private school boys in my head smoking cigars in the lounge.. If that's the
case, then I would probably say Tori because she's the more conservative
choice.. Beck is not refined true, could imagine a refined Beck? No fun at
all....

Now I find out that Fatboy Slim is also on there
with You've Come a Long Way, Baby. That's who is
going to win, I'm sure of it.
Also, Moby is in line for Best Rock Instrumental
Performance against Jeff Beck, Green Day, Santana
Featuring Eric Clapton, and Steve Vai. Don't
think Moby is going to win this one. I think
Santana is going to sweep a lot of these Grammies
this year. They are nominated for everything,
and will probably win 85% of them. Something
from the past AND sounds good. A sure winner.

Well liked by the younger crowd... uses enough
variety on the album to qualify... a person who
has helped shape Alternative music (speaking from
the masses of course)... and who can't remember
"Right about now..." :)
I like FBS, and since I don't listen to the
radio, it doesn't bother me a bit.

Yes but every single compilation I've gotten recently has him on it and it's

That's why I quit buying compilations. :) I like
listening to his live sets, and there's three new
ones at Astralwerks. Following the yellow brick

Okay since you brought up the subject of compilitions, I'll share my views.
Compilations are great. I love them. Good compilations will have stuff you
know and some less known artists giving you more exposure . I just picked
up the Plastic 2 compilation and completely fell in love with Delerium's
"Silence"... It's just annoying when compilations can't come up with any
cool songs to put in so they use the ones that every other compilation has
used.
I also love soundtracks, especially when the feature exclusive tracks from
your favorite artists (like Bt's shineway on the Jackal s/t... I love that
song and it's such a departure from him normal sound.. almost sounds like
oasis. ALSO, for those who are not so fortunate to live in a metropolitain
areas with great cd's stores and are not online shopping friendly,
compilations are a great way to get tracks from artists that have hard to
find cd's. I used to get compilations for BT songs and Scooter songs before
I became online friendly. Moby was always pretty accesssible. And
compilations usually have songs that haven't been released yet... I heard
"Honey" on the Permant Midnight s/t (I think) before Play came out and
almost made me hesitant to buy Play..
I know this is random and rambling but I thought I would share my thoughts.

It takes a lot for me to buy any compilation now
that I have access to listen to a bunch of
different artists on the Internet. You are
correct, those that aren't "Net Friendly" have a
tough time finding new music. Compilations are
good then. I also buy most compilations from any
record labels I'm particularly fond of, but
that's more to support the label (Astralwerks,
Waveform, etc...)

Ditto for soundtracks, except the only
soundtracks I find myself buying are
instrumentals and those with "original" tracks.
Most are original until the artist's next album.
:) It takes a lot for me to buy a soundtrack as well.

I've kinda gotten that way too.. I think the Spawn s/t had a great concept of
pairing electronica with rock bands with all original songs... I really do
love Crystal Method and Filter's Trip Like I Do... I was kinda of
disappointed though with Butthole Surfer's & Moby's track (even though I love
both) and Silverchair & Vitro's track (both great bands). What I'm really
starting to hate is s/t with a great track by a band and that's all they ever
do, like Magnificent Bastard's "Mocking Bird Girl" on the Tank Girl s/t and
Dusted's "Deeper River" on the LIfe Less Ordinary s/t. That's frustrating.

How wonderful that I can finally applaud an entire category of the Grammys.
I'm usually so very disappointed with the nominations, but this is a
delighful surprise. I think that all of these folks are worthy, and I really
think that Moby has a legitamite (sp?) shot. I just hope he doesn't fall
victim to the long-standing curse in which most of the musicians, TV shows,
and films that I adore are alwaysalwaysalways denied--not that awards mean a
whole lot in the long run, but it's nice to see them appreciated.

Everything I've sent and InsrtBrain has sent was
a conversation. You CANNOT combine a
conversation and send it out, because I have not
idea what he's going to say next. Come to think

Good morning, or whatever it is for you.
A few of you may remember a mysterious Moby record called "Basement Rock"
that shows up on GEMM occasionally, and certain other European music
outlets. I don't think it's Moby, because I wrote to the staff at Rockhouse,
(musicmailexpress.com) who have it listed in their catalog. They replied
that I should look for catalog and track info on their site or at cddb.com.
I tried searching their catalog by title for Basement Rock and there's
another artist named Dobie that has a record by this title available.
Additionally, there was a record label listed for the Dobie entries that
I've never seen associated with Moby. (the Moby entry had no record label
shown at all) Check it out if you're curious, but I think it's safe to say
that Basement Rock has nothing to do with Moby.
I wrote some year end thoughts to mobility a week and a half ago while bored
and half-asleep. I said something like "the Risk & Dark mixes really should
have been released" and of course, they were. I don't know why I forgot
about that. They are on the double vinyl for Honey, and I guess it just
slipped my mind. I didn't comment on the WDMHFSB singles, either, which I
most heartily approve of.
I got the new Pork Guys video. It's even more embarrassing than Four Lights!
Moby, Paul, and Tarquin (aka Sydney) wearing boxer shorts, spazzing, and
continuing their parady of punk attitude. I think they were playing with
paint again, too. (if you've seen the Shopwell pictures it looked like they
were trashing the set of a school play and they got all painted up in those,
too) Don't bother with it, anyway.
Oh yeah, you were wondering about my subject line! I wasn't pulling your
appendage, here you go:

Subject: (mobility) Any Given Sunday
So I was quite disapointed to find that a Moby Track was not on the Any
Given Sunday soundtrack...I hope that a score comes out with his stuff on
it...it'd be a great way for people to get to know moby...one reason that I
am absolutely thrilled that he is nominated for 2 Grammys...it is quite
awesome...but anyway...even though Moby does not have a track on the
soundtrack...he is still on it...it was hard to believe but the Hip-hop
group Mobb Deep has a sampled loop of God Moving...the song is called "Never
Goin' Back". I believe its only on this soundtrack...but I cannot be sure. I
don't remember it from "Murda Musik", Mobb Deep's latest
release...Anyway...if you like hard core hip-hop and hard rock...this is a
really good soundtrack...
Other moby stuff: I was watching a local techno tv show...they had Moby's
Run-On video in the top 7 of the Year...I believe it was number 4 or 3...the
show is called BPM and it airs on PBS in Colorado...but I don't know where
else.
Also: The Excellent Mailing list poll for 1999 ranked Play as the 12th best
album of 1999...11 was the Manic Street Preachers with This is My Truth,
13th was NIN Fragile...number 1 was Blur "13"...
Thats about it for me. I am happy to see Moby make a presence in the
world...
on an interesting note...I saw REM today on Sesame street as I was flipping
through the channels...hehe...singing with some monsters...its fun stuff...
