who cares what happens at the grammys. they nominated the backstreet boys for
christ's sake. all the grammy's do is verify the billboard lists.
fatboy slim is horribly untalented. he creates catchy stuff, but there's
nothing to it. it's horribly simplistic, and lacks any real artistic merit.
however he does have a tendency to get people interested in electronic music
who would otherwise ignore it. so props to norman for that much.
the "praise you" video is awesome, yes. but this has a lot more to do with
diector spike jonze than it does norman cook.
beck did a so-called "refined" album. it was called mutations. it came out in
98. it is one of the most beautiful albums i've ever heard.

Every time I go to a rave or electronica party, I seem to be one of just a
handful of people not "rolling". I feel so damn awkward and out of place.
Should I stay home and enjoy my electronic music in solitude? Can't there be
electronica parties where the experience is 100% music instead of 50%
music/50% drugs. Or is this how it is and I'm going to have to suck it up
and accept it ?
Is this the right forum to discus this in or am I out of place again and on
the verge of getting flamed ?

You'll probably get flamed by the die-hard on topic types but we'll put an OT
so they'll be happy.

I am so anti-rave just because its for all those people that want to feel
special about being underground.. It's the not the music at raves it's the
culture and social atmosphere. Granted glowsticks are cool, and I want to
find stuff to put on my hair so that it glows green like a glowstick (the
stuff inside fades so fast)... But I don't want to be surrounded by a bunch
of people who thinks it's the in place to be or the in type of music to
listen to.
Considering the fact that I have never done drugs in my entire life and never
plan to, and I absolutely adore electronica for all its beauty, it is
possible. And if your in a place where the vibe is right and the music is
good and the people aren't too obnoxious, all's good... But I also enjoy
driving super fast in my car and listening to it too (except trance.. that
stuff puts me to sleep)....
I guess it depends on your purpose.... If you want to enjoy the music.. at
home... If you want to feel the energy it creates go to the rave, club, or
whatever the shindig might be.

"Best Rock intrumental Performance"? How'd they get that? And "Best
Alternative Album" oh, MOBY is *sooo* alternative. Gee, does "Alternative"
still exist? The lines have become so blured. Grunge used to be
alternative, then it was pop rock, then it was rock that no one can really
define, then it all went down the tubes with Boy Bands and Britt. Spears
lookalikes and now those wanna be "R&B" ppl are known as "Pop". I'm sooo
confused. Now there's the rap/rock bands and all those wussy heavy metal
bands. Where's my "Grunge"? I'm feeling so disgruntled. :-) I may have to
shoot innocent radio's and tv's.

..i've been going to raves for a while. there's
nothing like having the dj right there and feeling the
music with a crowd of people who are all dancing and
feeling the same thing. i loved electronica way before
i went to any raves; but going just inhances the
expirience for me.. sadly most of the parties i've
gone to in the past year have been full people who go
to take the drugs and stand in the the middle of the
dance floor and don't really care about the scene. i
have nothing against taking drugs, i did until i had a
really bad expirience a few months ago. now i'm pretty
much clean, and it is weird going and having everyone
around you in some other reality.. i love the
philosophy of PLUR; it's too bad it takes drugs to
make it happen. believe me, there are people who go to
raves for the music.. sorry, rambling... *kitt*

wow, 2wo grammy noms! RRRRROOOOCCCCCKKKK!!! of course,
"bodyrock" isnt really an instrumental huh? then again
"Block Rockin Beats" won that one a few years ago
so......
why is everyone like "i think Tori should win
definitely" um, this is the Moby list right????? my
opinion, i honestly think "The Fragile" kinda sucked,
and NIN and Beck and i think Tori have already won
Grammies, and FBS won some MTV awards so thats enuff.
Moby hasnt really won too many major awards (not that
it REALLY matters, i mean just listening to his muzik
is all you really need, you dont have to be told
"this muzik is award winning" to be into it, right?)
but anyway "Play" beat the shit out of all those other
cds too. of course i havent heard Beck or Tori (and
FBS was NOT the best album of the year, not that it
was bad but its kind of annoying now)....
actually, its quite impressive that moby is up for
alternative, i mean Beck and Tori and NIN and FBS are
pretty much household names. if you go to an average
school, you'll find fans of all of them in any average
good-sized classroom. Moby is a bit lesser known, and
a mit lower placed on Bilboard and a bit less exposed
and a bit less heard. but ocasionally a bit more
critically praised. so thats great that they opened up
and got into this, even if they decided "oh well all
these critics are saying this is good, maybe we should
give a listen to it also" then at least they made a
good decision, even if it was a fluke, you know?
uhhhhhh ramblings anyway some other nominated folks:
Tom Waits (best folk album! and best male vocal
rock?!)
Club 69 (best remixer.... not familiar with them but
other folks here are, so there you go!)
Bjork/Chris Cunningham (best video! but not Aphex? ;)
Radiohead (best longform video...ROCK!)
Ani Difranco (best folk album and female rock vocal...
yeah like thatll win against Sarah Mclachlan and
Melissa Etheridge...my friend Fran Fried, muzik critic
for New Haven Register, recently said that Ani was the
musician of the decade (along with Nirvana) because of
how much influence she had on female musicians, and
the interesting thing he said is that the major labels
invented people like Alanis Morisette when Ani wouldnt
budge from her self-created
label....interesting...sorry to ramble!)
and probly a few more i missed.
hey new guy! welcome! dude you have a lot of stuff!
and, yr a PIXIES fan! ROCK!!!! ive been obsessed with
them lately. I also listened to Breeders "Last Splash"
yestrday for the first time in a while.... DAAAAAAMNN
that album is classic!!!! ROCK!!!!
also, i was at artists workshop today, and we were
searchin for MIDI files (we found a kickass Metallicaa
"Wherever I May Roam" MIDI! ;) so i demanded that
Zheng (the computer genius kid) go to moby.org and get
some Moby MIDIS. we got "GWOTFOTW" and "Terror Of Blue
Lawns" by Eric Goldberg (aka Tone Matrix) and the art
teacher commented on how repetitive GMO.. was! whuh?
and i havent heard Blue Lawns in a while (Rod Rich
still has my AR/LI and Ambeint discs!!! damn1!!!!) but
of course the MIDI versions were a bit off. the big
bass BOOOOMMM in GMO... was just a little cymbal
*pish* and it didnt have like the bridge part in
it...you know? and Blue Lawns was... the string sound
wasnt big enough... but still, its Moby, so its better
than frigging Blink 182 or Mariah Carey MP3's. sorry
and thanks Tone Matrix (if yr still on here...)
oh i got i great Sifl & Olly picture if anyone wants
me to email them it ;) and Dr Funk sed he got my blank
CD for my copy of the tribute album! yay! if you want
a copy just email drfunk49@webtv.com and ask for info!
i'm on 2wo trax on this thing
RIGHT! bye!!!!

well this mentions Moby, but its not really related,
but of interest. Dave the Wave, who does the Electro
Circus on 104 Saturday nite from 10-2 (or usually a
lot later) is leaving connecticut, to work at
grooveradio, a 24-hour techno station on the net.
but hell still do the electro circus thank god. the
show sucks a little, in that he plays some junky stuff
and he sucks as a dj, but he does play tons of stuff
that 104 would NEVER play (mixing Live with Roni Size?
and getting it to sound good??? bootleg jungle mixes
of Fugees, Monica, Busta Rhymes, Missy Elliott???
techno muzik in general???) and the first time i ever
heard news about Play, its title, and a non-single
from it (which i broke the news to this very list) was
on this show. i love how he totally rips apart
commercial radio, im surprised he hasnt been fired
actually. so heres some cool news for you all. enjoy!
