hey man...for starters, there is this program on the computer called
Buzz2..it is like a mini studio in your computer where you have instruments
and you create sounds..it's a bit primitive but it is good and fun for
starters...don't go all out with this at first man..www.buzz2.com

Well, we failed in our mission to get Play on AOL's top 10 finalist for album
of the year... Finalist are:
Rage Against the Machine - Battle of Los Angeles
Limp Bizkit ~ Significant Other
Korn - Issues
Backstreet Boys - Millennium
Mary J. Blige - Mary
Nine Inch Nails - The Fragile
Britney Spears - Baby One More Time
Blink 182 - Enema of the State
Metallica - S&M
Christina Aguilera - s/t
Well after you cast your votes, you find out the revolting fact that the BSB
are way ahead.. I don't know if this list was supposed to induce vomitting or
what, but it eliminates my faith in the people voicing their opinions. Of
these choice I personally went for Blink 182 because their fun and don't take
themselves seriously (plus the Small Things video made me a fan for life it
is so funny).. Just when you think people are achieving taste this happens.
At least Nsync wasn't on there.

i'd have to say i just started listening to moby this
year. my first cd, animal rights, led me to believe
all his cds would be of that manner, but after
purchasing play i had a different opinion, but hey!
i'm still here. i now have a few other cds of him,
and my collection continues to grow. not to leave out
his essays, which i think are interesting, even though
i don't agree with all of his opinions, i respect
them.
i'm sure i'd get comments(not necessarily good ones)
on my opinion of favorite cds. i listen to a variety
of different music, so i'm hesitating to say this but
moby, live, eminem, michael w. smith, bing crosby, foo
fighters, blink 182, and godsmack really effected me
alot this year. that's my opinion.
peace.

Actually if you look at Moby's essays there is very little to disagree
with by and large : any pro-religion statements he makes tend to also be
anti-organised-religion, any pro-earth statements are more accurately
against corporate policies on the raping of the earths resources (i.e.
it's the problem of the next generation) and any personal statements he
makes are by and large common sense.
Animal Rights was my year zero for Moby (I had EIW 2CD but never really
'got it'), when I heard it it sounded like no other rock music in the
world. It is still an astonishingly relentless album. (I have the UK
edition). It sounds both pheonomenally human and mechanised at the same
time, played by the tightest band in the world. Bearing in mind Moby
himself plays almost every instrument bar the odd cello solo, it sounds
more coherent than any band effort I've heard in a long time. It's also
a fantastic album for sulking to a broken relationship over, and I rate
it as one of my top three albums of all time.
What I realised as I branched out more into the Moby canon (from Voodoo
Child to the UHF single to stuff like Feeling So Real, and later, Play)
is that Moby - no matter what he does - is one of the few true artists
and musicians who is genuinely good at being a musician and not just
within one narrow genre. In every genre he touches and uses, a Moby
sounds like the work of an adept and visionary within his field. Without
looking at his other works, Move is a classic in it's field, as is You,
or Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad? In effect, he is Beck without the
persona, a Beck with Soul. (This is opinion). Whereas Beck fiddles in
all genres, and just about pulls-it-off with some kitsch humour, Moby
seems to cut straight through to what the genre is truly about. Moby is
soul msuic, in the rarest form, that it does come from the soul.

so 4 out and out jockcockrock acts, one hip-hop misogynist and bing
crosby = diverse? Try this :
Metallica, Nyman, Phillip Glass, Moby, Tori Amos, PWEI, Kraftwerk, Blur,
Pet Shop Boys, Prince, The Orb, Nitzer Ebb, New Order, The The, Janes
Addiction/P 4 Pyros, Orbital, Steve Reich....

Frankly, considering the pure shit that is here, I would be REVOLTED to see
"Play" and Moby's name linked in any way shape or form with this list so
I'm glad it's not here. To lump Moby in with the likes of Backstreet Boys,
Britney, Bizkit and their ilk
would be a crime. The only people I have any respect for on that list are
Metallica and NIN and I personally don't own anything by them, just not my
cup of tea, but I respect their talent. The others are all dime a dozen
cookie cutter record company creations or boring same ole same oles.
Leave this crap to the uneducated "masses" who voted that stuff in. We'll
see how many of those "acts" other than Metallica and NIN are even around
making music in say, 5 years. I'm sure our beloved Little Idiot will be.

yes. i am for his organized religion essays, what i
meant by the disagreeing was the fact that he thinks
dairy products are bad, because cows have to be
milked, it doesn't hurt them, but it will hurt them if
they aren't.
i was only naming a few of my diverse things. some of
the bands you listed i don't know. i just knew/heard
some people making negative comments about some of the
bands/people i list as good artists before on the
list. i forgot our lady peace. all though moby is my
favorite solo artist. live is my favorite band, and
our lady peace comes in second. all others are just
something to listen too, they don't really affect me
much.

honestly, moby is far too talented to be in the same category as those acts
anyway....except for metallica and NIN, who are (obviously) talented.....
though i think its probably time for metallica to retire ya know??

Hi, got the Circuit DVD that the editor i believe wrote in about and it
honestly it has a great interview with Moby on it, in good punk attitude
mocks hollywood money and just for the scene where the interviewer is
putting Moby to sleep by babbling on is great. Also has the Run On
video (one of my favorites of his) and Underworlds Push Upstairs plus
some other stuff
Also the KROQ cd Kevin and Beans Last Christmas has a track with Moby on
it, honestly it is alright, if you want i am usually on NAP (eastern
late pm usually) so if you want you can download it from me (have alot
of other besides and such as mp3s on my drive). Keith

Moby's coming to Tokyo and I couldn't be happier! :D
Moby and band are going to be playing at an event
called Tokyo Police State
1, a show protesting the recent crackdown on all-night
dancing by Tokyo
Police -- they've been shutting down clubs left and
right! The show also
includes the Chemical Brothers and a long list of
Tokyo DJs (all for 4000
yen. yes, that is about $40, but I don't think it's
bad for Moby and the
Chems). I'm giddy as a school girl and can't wait
until Jan. 9. I'll post
a review after the show.
And I thought I was going to miss Moby's Play tour!

Subject: (mobility) a little about me
Hey there...my name is Shahla...Pretty much I am 17 years old livin in miami
hoping to live in cali next year for school. My Moby collection includes
Animal Rights, Everything is Wrong, Ambient, and I like to Score...not much i
know since he creates soooooooo much art but its a start. The first time i
heard of Moby was back in 7th grade when my friend Luis was talking about him
in this awe-like way. I am always up for listening to new music...although
he wasnt new but it was new for me...but i just found myself in total
expression -captured in a second of time- when i listen to his music.
Anyway, enough about that. I am a fan of Moby but not like the biggest...i
just appreciate his music. I would want to have more of his cds...but
gosh...it all costs money. Other artists that i love include Millencolin,
Less than Jake, Blink182 (the older stuff preferably), 311, Josh Wink,
Chemical Brothers (which i have seen a couple of times including at the Zen
Fest in Miami), Aphex Twin, The Sex Pistols, Fiona Apple, Feeder, The
Verve...gosh..i am just naming and naming..Ultimately, i love punk and rave
music...electronica is just some kind of music that indulges in the soul...I
have my own zine down here in miami..entitled Blurb...i am still a student
- -quite the nerd- i promote lots of local punk acts down here and basically i
am out of time since i have lots of work to do..nice to meet you all..maybe
we could get some coffee..."You, me, and five bucks"-from Reality Bites (my
fave movie)..toodaloo...shahla

Moby has a persona, everyone has a persona. His just isn't as obtuse as
Beck's. But anyone who goes to the VMA's in a gold Elvis-esque suit has his
own little persona. As far as Beck goes, I love him. He has a soul. He
makes fun of the world today without being malicious. That takes a soul, it's
just different from Moby. Idealistically, Moby is probably my all time
favorite because of his music that is always beautiful, and because he has
strong moral beliefs. there should be more like him.
