Hi Folks,
Maybe some of you catalogue librarians can help me out with this one - it's
a pleasant little mystery to start the day off with, anyhow 8-)
Yesterday, HMV Direct sent me a copy of 'Moby' (Pinnacle PLCD 014 if memory
serves). The catalogue number on the CD was the same as on the box, but the
track listing didn't tie up. The tracks I recognised on the CD were Next Is
The E (I Feel It), Ah Ah, Thousand, and Go. These were all on the listing,
but in the wrong order. Also, there were two versions of Go, one a pretty
similar mix to that on I Like To Score, but with an extended piano break
towards the end. The other was a more blissed out type affair, with various
muttering over a stripped down mix. There was also only one Go listed on the
CD box.
Both box and CD had 12 tracks.
Anyone got any ideas?
Much Love,
Ian

It's The Story So Far, I believe. For some
reason, my copy of it came in a s/t disk as well,
but the tracks didn't mesh either. Go figure.
My guess is it didn't have shrink wrap around it either?

This would work if a large percentage of people bothered to actually change the
subject line. Lately, however, we've gone through several subjects all under the
same topic line. If you ignore one topic line its possible you'll miss something
thats interesting..... unlikely... but possible
also, not many people bother to warn when its off topic. I remember about a year
ago we agreed to put "*******" or "OFF-TOPIC" in the subject line when
discussing something not directly moby related. I found this to be very helpful
and tried to do it myself. Maybe I'm the only one that thought it was
worthwhile... maybe not....

Subject: (mobility) My favorite Moby CDs (***warning: on-topic)
These are some of my favorite Moby CDs, and why:
Into The Blue remixes
The Simple & Spiritual mixes take me to another place. When I introduce
somebody to Moby, I use these. The other mixes are entertaining and
well-rounded, but those two especially are among Moby's very best. They
transcend. What I don't know, but that's the word that fits. They give me
butterflies in my heart.
Voodoo Child - The End Of Everything
Serene, beautiful, simple melodies and soft textures. Sublime.
Voodoo Child - Demons/Horses
Not the same Voodoo Child as End Of Everything. At all. Quite the opposite,
really, with the neverending songs and the dark, relentless pounding.
Sinister and satisfying, especially after night falls.
Move EP
Promoted me from casual Moby fan to hardcore Moby fan. I asked mobility what
I should buy next, and Move was the popular choice. That was in March or
April '98. I'm not going to describe it, but if you don't have it, go get it
NOW.
Revolver #2 (the orange one)
The Rollo & Sister Bliss mix of Revolver opened my ear. (a roommate had been
shoving Pigface, Meat Beat Manifesto, Skinny Puppy, Sister Machine Gun,
etc., down my throat, so I steadfasty disliked whatever he listened to
before he even put it on)I had intended to buy this CD as soon as I saw it
so that I'd have it myself, but I ended seeing s/t for my first Moby
purchase instead. (that's self-titled, US counterpart to Story So Far, for
the person who asked) Every One Of My Problems, also on Revolver #2, is
intense! I think part of that song is in a b-side on one of the UK Play
singles. I don't have whichever one that is.
Ten City - Only Time Will Tell 12"
The Moby mixes, OBGYN & MOBGYN, are classic, old school rave stompers.
Highly recommended if you can take the time to locate them. "You've got to
give me LLLLLOOOOOOVVVVVEEEEE!" These and the Heads mixes are my favorite
Moby remixes.
The Heads - Damage I've Done
The two Moby remixes are unusual and strike me as slightly experimental.
Soothing like Voodoo Child, but in a more achy, melancholy way. I prefer
these somber numbers over a couple of the sleepy ones on Play.
I could go on, but I'm interested to hear what others like best, and why. If
you haven't already, share how you discovered Moby and his music. It's far
more interesting to _everybody_ on the list than soy vs. dairy calcium.

S/T means self-titled. The Story So Far, what we
both got, came in the Self-Titled case. Not a
bad disc, anyway. :)

Well, since it's Friday, what the hell!
::ahem:: Me me me! Right.
Moby...
Go (from s/t) - Yeah, *go* figure. :) I really
had a problem with this song when someone said
the person saying "yeaaaaaaaa" sounded like a
goat, then all I could think of is a stage full
of goats bleating during the song. Thankfully I
saw it live and got my groove back.
Have You Seen My Baby (mix from Rare) - The
echoing of the song and the overall "evil"
::pinky to corner of mouth:: tone of the song is
great. I always get creeped out by music that
does that.
Ah Ah - Because I saw it live, three times now,
and each time it gets better.
Ambient...
Heaven - This song is pleasantly repetative,
giving me a lulling sense of life when I need to
just chill out in my own way. Most people use
smooth jazz, I use trance. Go figure.
Everything is Wrong...
Move - A great "choon". Can't get enough of it.
Go listen to it if you haven't. You should all
be ashamed of yourselves for not listening to it,
in fact. :)
Hymn (This is My Dream) - So much better than the
album version. The album version is pleasant,
the single version is downright magical.
Feeling So Real (Westbam Remix) - More trance for
that ass. :) The not-stop pounding beat combined
with that catchy melody make this an all-time
favorite.
Everytime You Touch Me (Pure Joy Mix) - Back in
my collection, and very happy about it.
Anthem - I wished there would have been singles
for this one. Grrrrrrreat "choon".
Animal Rights...
That's When I Reach For My Revolver - Yeah, it's
a cover, but it's a darn good one. Something I
can sing along with.
Living - This song is the second best song he's
done, in my honest opinion, only because I like
guitar.
Little Idiot - All of it. Favorite Album. No
real reason.
I Like to Score...
Novio - I wish this was longer, or a whole album
done with this kind of theme.
James Bond Theme - Shaken, not stirred.
Oil 1 - Faster. Yeah! Hard, Baby, Hard!!!
And from Play...
Honey - By itself, no fancy mixing allowed! I'm
biased, because it was the first new Moby stuff I
had heard in over two years. Very happy!
Run On - By itself, again. The message is lost
on me, mind you, but it's still a great song!
Bodyrock (Rae & Christian) - The flutes are
great. They make me want to just melt into my
chair at work for some unknown reason. (As a
side note, I'm also partial to 3 Kilos by
Prodigy)
WDMHFSB? (ATB Remix) - Uplifting, in true Moby
style. I just like being brought to a new state
of awareness when listening to a song. Oh yeah,
more trance for that ass, too. :)
Down Slow (Full Version) - The album version
doesn't do it justice. The full version allows a
mood to be created, and let go.
Everloving - The best song he's done, to date.
The humming, the melody, the light electronic
background and buildup, and the guitar. I need
nothing more from Moby... besides the next
"greatest thing he's ever done" to come out. :)
Bored yet? Hell, I could go on all day! :)

Hi Ian !
I'm glad i'm not the only one to have the same misprint. You have in fact a
"mixture"of Moby and The Story So Far, album looking like Moby but not being
it.
Front Cover and music: Story So Far
Back Cover and writing on Cd: Moby
See track listings of Story So Far on moby.org
This isn't a collector and is surely due to those guys of Pinnacle that didn'
arrive to sell Story So Far so put it under Moby.
Sorry for that. Try if you can to explain this HMV direct in order to get
smth but it depends of the shop (Personnally, they gave me the money back and
I kept the CD !) :)
S/T stands for Self Titled BTW.

My favorite Moby CD's ? All of the ones I have ! Sincerly it's hard to make a
choice but let's see...
Well, I think that those are sticking out of the "mass" ' (and are those that
I play the more often)
Play:
Each track except 7 could be a single (I try to imagine covers for those that
won't be like Rushing, Inside, My weakness ...) Very dense, it's not a 3-4
singles and rubbish to make it a Cd, but an overall excellent CD with plenty
of moods, music styles ...
Honey/ Run On:
For the 2 excellent Sharam Jey's mixes of Honey and Run On. I'm getting
addicted to them.
WDMHFSB remixes:
(or if it exist The Mushroom edition of WDMHFSB that could include Flying
Foxes with the remixes). ATB and Ferry Corsten are badly good. They begin to
get known around since I "oblige" each DJ at each party that I attend to pass
the Vinyl (that I previously bring with me). But last time, the guy already
had it.
Voodoo Child / The End of Everything:
Because it's different, repetitive but not enough to get bored. Animal sight
and Great lake are tracks that make me escape from my urban reality. Nature
at its best.
Everything is Wrong:
Like Play a very dense album where original tracks are often as good (if not
better) than the remixes. Like also the end part, less dance and more slow
paced things like When It's cold ..., First Cool Hive, Into The Blue ...
Hymn single (Part 1):
3 great mixes of my favorite track of EIW (especially the Laurent Garnier's
Wake Up mix : don't miss it)
Early Underground
More electronic than the rest of his CDs, EU, despite all those years,
doesn't get old. I think that I'll continue to enjoy for al ong time Party
Time and its pianos, Move the Colors, Barracuda ...
Rare
Because of the Voodoo Child and Drug fits the face mixes that leave by the
side annoying samples (especially for DFTF, the original version is so
stresing ...) and for Time's Up (Deep Mix) because it's nice and will be,
unless a miracle, my only mix of Time's Up. I enjoy also the 14 versions of
Go mixed but i don't listen to it quite often (<50 minutes of Go is too much
at once.)
I like very much also Move, Help Me to Believe, Electricity, Myopia ... but
don't really like the albums (Move EP, Moby, Ambient) as those above.
Just ordered the LCDStumm130 at Music Express along with the CDMute200 for
the fun of it (knowing that I'll soon receive a mail saying "Sorry but these
items are unavailable now but we keep them on the list in case they become
available". (Couldn't they stop saying bulls*** at once ! )
Enjoy this weekend ( Saturday: The late Moby show from Lille ! Yipee.)
