Subject: (mobility) Updates!
hello Mobiliteers,
Someone already posted the tracklistings & catalogue numbers of the
WDMHFSB releases. I will update them by giving the discography
info on 2 promo's I got today. :)
Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad? radio promo (3:43) [Sept 1999]
UK CD promo, Mute, RCDMute230
1 3:43 Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad?
Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad? promo 1 [Sept 1999]
UK 12" promo, Mute, P12Mute230
????? any info on this would be appreciated! (Daniel??)
Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad? promo 2 [Sept 1999]
UK 12" promo, Mute, PL12Mute230
A _:__ Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad? (Sharp Roadster Remix)
AA _:__ Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad? (Subsonic Legacy Remix)
I don't like the Sharp mix... This kind of music just doesn't go with the
vocal samples. There's hardly any melody, just hardsteppin' house
rhythms with sounds. Subsonic Legacy on the other hand turned
this great Moby track into a beautiful dreamy breakbeat excursion,
WOW!
Here's another update for the 'remixes Moby did for other artists'
section. For the Moby mixes of "You Gotta Believe In Something"
of Fierce Ruling Diva there are only listed 2 obscure 12"s with on
each of them one different Moby mix. Now I found a German 8-track
CD single that has both Moby mixes on it together with a bunch of
other GREAT remixes!:
Fierce Ruling Diva - "You Gotta Believe In Something" (39:11) [1992]
GE CD, React/EastWest, 4509-90774-2
1 5:19 You Gotta Believe In Something (Radio Mix)
2 5:21 You Gotta Believe In Something (Atomix)
3 5:01 You Gotta Believe In Something (Turntable Hype Mix)
4 5:21 You Gotta Believe In Something (Moby's Sweet Mix)
5 6:29 You Gotta Believe In Something (Moby's Love Of God Mix)
6 3:01 You Gotta Believe In Something (Fingers In The Dyke Mix)
7 4:19 You Gotta Believe In Something (I Believe Mix)
8 4:03 You Gotta Believe In Something (Original Atomic Slide Mix)
The Sweet Mix is really nice and mellow (kinda Barracuda sound, but
not quite..) I have never heard Moby like this before, if I had to describe
the musical genre it would be a sort of "soulful deep-house" that I thought
only black deep-house producers could make... wow, that Moby guy
keeps surprising me! (in a pleasant way, that is!)
The Love Of God Mix is Moby as we know him, banging beats with
hectic acid bleeps and no melody and most of the time no bassline.
Because Moby used all kinds of samples so cleverly, this pretty
minimal and hard track turned out to be far from boring! nice mix!
2 other great (re)mixes are the Turntable Hype Mix and the Fingers
In The Dyke Mix.
That's all for today :)

Subject: RE: (mobility) values...
Good point. I think we need to get to the basic facts. Moby
makes amazing music. His priority isn't being the background music for
commercials and t.v. shows and the like. People are just picking up on
it and using it. His music is just as wonderful as it always was,
whether it's being commercialized or not. That's why we're on this
list, that's why we like him as a person. His drive is music, and not
t.v.
If his music was shitty, I could understand being upset but we
have all agreed that Play is wonderful. Others are picking up on it
too. There's nothing wrong with that. And I agree, the record company
is probaby responsible for the commercials, not moby.
As for personal beliefs and such, who cares? So moby drinks and
you don't, or you meat and he doesn't. We're all different. I'm kinda
glad he's so open about his beliefs. I like to read his essays, whether
I totally agree with them or not. It's nothing to get upset over (not
that anyone really is), you tell me your opinion and I'll tell you mine,
it's what makes this list flow. Does anyone on the list remember the
idea for WWMD bracelets?
Reading over this, it sounds so crappy. This was such a boring
response.

Well put.

What I find funny is that the people who damn him
for "selling out" would probably be in a much
different position if it was their career on the
line. How many of you would not work for pay?
How many of you would refuse more money at work
if they just put your already finished work
elsewhere? Not many of you, I'm sure. I used to
think musicians sold out as well... then I
realized that they are just making a living.
Those who complain about rebellion and selling
out usually are still supported at home. For
those of you who are not... my apologies. I
would like to hear your comments personally.

I think Capitalism is inherently evil because it
plays off of the normal greed in all of us. That
instinct for survival. However, a person living
in the system is not evil because he is forced to
work in the system.
>Everytime an instance comes up contridicting

It's a circumstantial argument that most people
give. Because he is this, he MUST be this as
well. I'm a Pagan, and I love the song Run On.
Should I not like it because I don't believe in
Christ, and I don't think "God Almighty is gonna
cut 'im down"?
>Are you telling me that instruments and
>electronically produced sounds can convey

Yes they can. Underworld is an example I cite
most of all when this comes around. All music
can convey complex ideas... you just have to look
for your own personal meaning (or non-meaning) in
them.
BTW, I posted this to the listserv for discussion
purposes only. Flame me off list, contribute to
the conversation on list. Ciao!
