I don't think he thought it was stupid, I think
he was merely pointing out a difference between
Eurpoean and American culture. To him, it made
him feel like a teeny-bopper fan. The key words
are "to him". Never did he say that anyone was
stupid.
Also, while I don't think you are stupid for
wearing an artist's t-shirt, I do think you are
incorrect for using both argument ad hominem

Can we drop the whole t-shirt argument? When Brad made the comment, I
think he was doing just that - making a comment. It was not meant as a
slur against anyones fashion sensibilities. Personally i couldn't care
less what any of you wear to a concert. I would bet that the majority
of the list feels this way also. If anyone wishes to continue to
discuss fashion... i believe they might have a wonderful time at
alt.gap.kids
And also, when replying to someones comment... unless it directly
affects all of us on the list... try sending it DIRECTLY to that person
instead of over the list. I hate getting 30 emails that say, "I agree"
"You are so right" or the worst - "Me too"
I'm not trying to offend anyone, so please take this in good humor and
don't flame me.
thanks!

can be quite positive. a sense of humour _is_ present, (as mr. pagan
alluded to below) though it is one that i don't expect the average _moby_

his post. something about sitting around the campfire and dreaming of
hugging and kissing moby. my apologies for the all caps. purely
unintentional.

Subject: (mobility) Issues
I love it how we seem to get caught up in the moment and absolutely go nato
on the little issues, big to some people of course.
For example, Selling Out, Vegan/Vegetarian, Wearing Moby T-Shirts to Moby
Concerts, being Hateful to other Members(when it is probably just joking or
even Sarcasim).
But as soon as these issues/points start to get interesting, someone, me
included, writes in telling them to shut the fuck up.
Maybe not so harsh, but the general meaning anyway. It's just funny to see
the borderline crossed on sooo many occasions.
I for one would luv to know why the world is all Phucked up.
Apart from obvious reasons, please tell me how wearing the 'Shirt' because
it makes you happy is the reason the world is Phucked. I realise it may
have been meant as a reference to when April said Screw Everyone Else....
But I don't think it meant that if you want to go out for target practice
at the local Grocery mart with an AK cause it makes you happy, then by all
means, do it. It was probably a reference to most fashion disasters and
their critics. If it was meant as a joke, then I am very sorry for
Rambling for no reason, but it just seemed to be a very sensitive topic
that was un-necessary to be raised.
Caps, Maybe I'm Thick, but isn't it a little hard to distinguish between
joke and serious, especially since we don't know the person.

If anybody remembers everybody hating Tom Green and saying anybody who likes
Tom Green should be shot? Well, along with me, MOBY WOULD BE SHOT because
he said in Subbacultcha's interview he "also met Tom Green. I love his
show."
So, before you cast the first stone, umm.... [insert clever smarmy remark]
The music industry is screwed because of the mass marketing of rebellion and
true music and people my age (16 ish) who buy rebellion in a jewel case.
People who get Korn, Metallica, etc because it's "alternative" and somehow a
rebellion against their parent's music (which was a rebellion against their
parents music).
Most people, this is pretentious I know and maybe wrong, either swallow the
crap this world shoves down their throats, or swallows the crap this world
shoves down their throats under the guise of rebellion.

Why do you have to demonize the dollar? If averice is one's main and only
driving goal in life, if it takes one over to the point that they destroy
others for profit, or because of indifference, then I can see the evils of
commercialism. As moby himself has noted on this list, he has had to find a
healthy medium road between "selling out" as people have accused him of and
performing and creating for himself. What's it matter? First off, I'm sure
his record company is responsible for his tracks being used in commercials,
aside from apossible royalty check or maybe some oral authorization,I'm sure
he had no role in it whatsoever. Moby's making a buck, but more importantly
he's making music. Money and commercialism is merely a secondary effect.
If his music didn't apeal to anyone, no record company would give him a
contract, he woulnd't make any more music, he's flip burgers or use his
degree for more constructive endeavors. Just because your favorite moby
song ends up on MTV(if you happen to hate MTV) or on a commercial doesn't
mean anything beyond this: the company needed a background song. It
doesn't mean that capitalism is in herently evil. It doesn't mean that the
artist has sold out. It doesn't mean his company has screwed him, and it
doesn't mean the music industry is a sham. It's merely business as usual.
Just be happy that moby can make a living(which he has to do
regardless!)doing something he loves and that we can enjoy.
>and for a Baileys to boot, what tha fuck, i thought Moby didn't drink,
I have noticed alot of people on this list doing this--projecting their
values on moby(though this may not be the case in this instance, and I
appologize if it is, but moby is not a "straight edge") People have assumed
that he is "christian" or "vegan" or abstinate, or bi, or gay, or whatever
they happen to be. Everytime an instance comes up contridicting their
preconcieved notions, they always write something like, "I thought moby
didn't drive cars because of pollution" or "I thought Moby didn't date porn
stars because he's christian" or something equally mundane.
First: I listen to moby for his music, not hsi politics or religion, or
anything else. I could be diametrically opposed to everything he believes
and still enjoy his music. Why? Because his music has VERY LITTLE to do
with his beliefs. He may sample some gospel, or he may have the occasional
lyrical part regarding how "everything is wrong" but none of it implies any
specific politics. Only the occasional essay that he inserts into his CD
covers are politically oriented. 90% of his tracks don't even have any
lyrics. Are you telling me that instruments and electronically produced
sounds can convey complex ideas? Of course not. Moby's politics may be a
topic of discussion and interest, but they certainly are extrinsic of his
music. Other than his essays and his personal writings or statements, I
don't think anyone can or should draw conclusions regarding his beliefs,
politics, or anything else.
Moby writes and performs good music. Try listening to it for what it is,
good music.
Chris Bourke.
