Saw the video. Thought it was major boring. I voted for Chevelle. now there
was a cool video.
If techno wants to make an impact on the mainstream, it has to be exciting.
Otherwise, I'm going to vote for the grunge band.

hey all -
see, even though I don't own anything by plastikman, I can still respect his
music. he swings a good minimalist ethic both sonically and visually,
whereas chevelle are riding their hopes on the fact that steve albini
produced their new big record (and hasn't he produced just about everybody's
now?).
I, for one, did not like the chevelle video or song. they both reminded me
of really bad Tool. (although the name "chevelle" could be cool...)
anyways, that's what I think.

Subject: Re: (mobility) chevelle vs. plastikman
Ok, I'll grant you. Chevelle sounds like tool. The video is even strikingly
similar to that one tool video from a couple of years ago. Still, I think
they've got the teen angst thing corked in a bottle. Every band on that list
was derivative of the genre from which they sprang, so I don't think it's
totally fair to count off points for originality, although, that is
*supposed* to be the point of independent alternative music. To stand out
from the crowd.
My much laboured and obsucred point: They coulda picked a better single and
made a better video for Plastikman. And I have the utmost respect for Squint
as an independent label. They give their artists the hightest level of
artistic support in making their records and then the highest level of
marketing support in taking them to the world at large. The label was
created essentially to make a hit of Sixpence None the Richer. That done,
I'm pleased to see them taking a chance on a band like Chevelle. Though I
really liked that singer-songwriter guy that sounded a lot like Elvis
Costello, too. He was cute and dang catchy.
ObMoby: according Matt Pinhead, Mute is classified as an indie label, as is
V2, and Moby's "Rave New World" to whom the copyrights are credited on Play.
So it would've been interesting to see an artist like him on this list. But
the only artists on the list that I had head of before seeing this special
were Fear Factory, Chevelle, Gospel Gangstas, Plastikman, and that Tibetan
Gods thing (saw 'em on a CMJ sampler once), so Moby may have been too
"established" for the special. In the same category as Ani DiFranco, Mike
Ness (Playing in LR next week -- WooHoo!), Chuck D, et al. But it would've
been good to see him on there.

Well, it's on eBay right now:
http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=122709206
This is Jon's auction and this is the same one as he
talked about on Mobility. It is a 'reserve' auction and
the first bid must be at least $ 12.00 This is a bit expensive
IMO, but you get the ORIGINAL single (from 1992) for it.
I myself have the re-release of Stella from 1996 which only
includes the following tracks (and also was a lot cheaper):
1- 6:21 Stella (original mix)
2- 6:37 Stella (Barracuda mix)
3- 5:43 Stella (electro mix)
This 1996 re-release still carries the original cat# from
the 1992 release: RS 9203 CD (on the R&S label)
The great thing about it is that the re-release still can be
backordered (that's how I got mine..) so Kees (and others)
you can choose between the very hard to find 1992 original
EP (with cool bonus songs/mixes) which is a bit expensive
(but if you like J&S it's certainly worth your money!) or the
1996 version (that also includes both Moby mixes) and can
be backordered from almost every bigger music store...

I found the issue of Future Music with the Moby track
on the cd. its' "Natural Blues".
I also found the 50th issue of MUZIK, with a cd of
"Club Classics" I bought that. Theres some cool shit
on the cd. Havent listened to it yet, cant wait to!
So far, I havent seen any mention of MOBY tho. Except
for a mention in some ad for some dance music
warehouse, that they had his music in stop.
Okay, heres the problem. Matt Crocco and Liam Lynch
(Sifl n Olly) have released a CD for all the hardcore
S&O fans. Its only available at sifl-n-olly.com
It costs a total of $18.50
I am complaining to the list that that is way too much
money for a CD.
Nobody has supported me in my claim.
They all think that $18.50 is a good, acceptable cost
for a CD. They claim that it is rare and will never be
in stores, which makes the cost okay. I still say that
$18.50 is a LOT of money, period.
SOMEBODY here believes me right? I mean, this CD is
rare and limited edition, wont be in stores ever, yada
yada fucking yada. But i cant afford that much. Hell,
when we did the THANKS cd, how much did that cost? 10
bucks? And how much did RYU charge for his cds? 5, 7
bucks? These are cheap prices for cds, period.
But this cd which is out for the S&O fans, it is at
least 5 bucks more than I would ever pay for a full
length, domestic cd. And its not on a label, not with
distribution, or anything. And they think this is a
good cost?
DOESNT ANYONE AGREE WITH ME??????????
Sorry. I am just way pissed. Bye, sane people. (hopefully)

Subject: (mobility) [mobility] feeling so real
Hello. As promised, here are the details of the mysterious "feeling
so real" CD single that I found recently, which doesn't seem to be
in any discography and even contains an exclusive mix/edit!
It appears to be a UK Promo. The cover is blue on orange - very
similar to the standard release. Catalogue number = RCDMUTE173
(1) Feeling So Real (7") [3:22]
(2) Feeling So Real (The Eat Me Edit) [3:07]
(3) New Dawn Fades [5:31]
Track 2 is listed as being 'edited' by Bill Padley & Mark Goodier.
It's really good - probably the best version of the song that I've
heard. It is NOT the same as the 'Radio Edit', despite being very
similar in length (3:08). I'll try to make an .mp3 of it sometime
soon, if anyone's interested.

Andy

i feel your pain! $18.50 is too much. but the "normal"
or "industry standard" for new cd's is now 16.99 to
18.99. now everyone can say "but i get my new cd's for
this price". but that's because the store you buy it
from chooses to make less money by selling it for
less. not because the lable or artist is charging less
money. it sucks! but it's a fact. unless your buying
truly indie music, that's just the way it is. i payed
$17.99 for PLAY at tower because it wasn't on sale.
