  269. see, even though I don't own anything by plastikman, I can still respect his 
  270. music. he swings a good minimalist ethic both sonically and visually, 
  271. whereas chevelle are riding their hopes on the fact that steve albini 
  272. produced their new big record (and hasn't he produced just about everybody's 
  273. now?).
  274. I, for one, did not like the chevelle video or song. they both reminded me 
  275. of really bad Tool. (although the name "chevelle" could be cool...)

  339. video were like a bad *version* of Tool. I rather like tool sometimes. dont'

  410. Ok, I'll grant you. Chevelle sounds like tool. The video is even strikingly
  411. similar to that one tool video from a couple of years ago. Still, I think
  412. they've got the teen angst thing corked in a bottle. Every band on that list
  413. was derivative of the genre from which they sprang, so I don't think it's
  414. totally fair to count off points for originality, although, that is
  415. *supposed* to be the point of independent alternative music. To stand out
  416. from the crowd.

  418. My much laboured and obsucred point: They coulda picked a better single and
  419. made a better video for Plastikman. And I have the utmost respect for Squint
  420. as an independent label. They give their artists the hightest level of
  421. artistic support in making their records and then the highest level of
  422. marketing support in taking them to the world at large. The label was
  423. created essentially to make a hit of Sixpence None the Richer. That done,
  424. I'm pleased to see them taking a chance on a band like Chevelle. Though I
  425. really liked that singer-songwriter guy that sounded a lot like Elvis
  426. Costello, too. He was cute and dang catchy.

  428. ObMoby: according Matt Pinhead, Mute is classified as an indie label, as is
  429. V2, and Moby's "Rave New World" to whom the copyrights are credited on Play.
  430. So it would've been interesting to see an artist like him on this list. But
  431. the only artists on the list that I had head of before seeing this special
  432. were Fear Factory, Chevelle, Gospel Gangstas, Plastikman, and that Tibetan
  433. Gods thing (saw 'em on a CMJ sampler once), so Moby may have been too
  434. "established" for the special. In the same category as Ani DiFranco, Mike
  435. Ness (Playing in LR next week -- WooHoo!), Chuck D, et al. But it would've
  436. been good to see him on there.

  510. This is Jon's auction and this is the same one as he 
  511. talked about on Mobility.  It is a 'reserve' auction and
  512. the first bid must be at least $ 12.00   This is a bit expensive
  513. IMO, but you get the ORIGINAL single (from 1992) for it.
  514. I myself have the re-release of Stella from 1996 which only
  515. includes the following tracks (and also was a lot cheaper):
  516.  
  517. 1- 6:21  Stella (original mix)
  518. 2- 6:37  Stella (Barracuda mix)
  519. 3- 5:43  Stella (electro mix)
  520.  
  521. This 1996 re-release still carries the original cat# from 
  522. the 1992 release: RS 9203 CD   (on the R&S label)
  523.  
  524. The great thing about it is that the re-release still can be
  525. backordered (that's how I got mine..) so Kees (and others)
  526. you can choose between the very hard to find 1992 original
  527. EP (with cool bonus songs/mixes) which is a bit expensive
  528. (but if you like J&S it's certainly worth your money!) or the 
  529. 1996 version (that also includes both Moby mixes) and can 
  530. be backordered from almost every bigger music store...

  541. on the cd. its' "Natural Blues".

  543. I also found the 50th issue of MUZIK, with a cd of
  544. "Club Classics" I bought that. Theres some cool shit
  545. on the cd. Havent listened to it yet, cant wait to!

  547. So far, I havent seen any mention of MOBY tho. Except
  548. for a mention in some ad for some dance music
  549. warehouse, that they had his music in stop.

  570. when we did the THANKS cd, how much did that cost? 10

  572. bucks? These are cheap prices for cds, period. 
  573. But this cd which is out for the S&O fans, it is at
  574. least 5 bucks more than I would ever pay for a full
  575. length, domestic cd. And its not on a label, not with
  576. distribution, or anything. And they think this is a
  577. good cost?

  600. Hello. As promised, here are the details of the mysterious  "feeling
  601. so real" CD single that I found recently, which doesn't seem to be
  602. in any discography and even contains an exclusive mix/edit!

  604. It appears to be a UK Promo. The cover is blue on orange - very 
  605. similar to the standard release. Catalogue number = RCDMUTE173
  606.  
  607. (1) Feeling So Real (7") [3:22]
  608. (2) Feeling So Real (The Eat Me Edit) [3:07]
  609. (3) New Dawn Fades [5:31]
  610.  
  611. Track 2 is listed as being 'edited' by Bill Padley & Mark Goodier.
  612. It's really good - probably the best version of the song that I've 
  613. heard. It is NOT the same as the 'Radio Edit', despite being very 
  614. similar in length (3:08). I'll try to make an .mp3 of it sometime 
  615. soon, if anyone's interested.

  630. i feel your pain! $18.50 is too much. but the "normal"
  631. or "industry standard" for new cd's is now 16.99 to
  632. 18.99. now everyone can say "but i get my new cd's for
  633. this price". but that's because the store you buy it
  634. from chooses to make less money by selling it for
  635. less. not because the lable or artist is charging less
  636. money. it sucks! but it's a fact. unless your buying
  637. truly indie music, that's just the way it is. i payed
  638. $17.99 for PLAY at tower because it wasn't on sale.

  651. the track they are speaking of may be another midi file for their classic 
  652. tracks article.this assumption comes just from the fact that they had one for 
  653. "go"not too long back.If it's not that then it's probably a track off play.
