Hello everybody,
The Dutch tv guide the "Veronica gids" made Play
"CD Of The Week" in their cd-review section.
Here's a translation of the review:
- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
- --
Perhaps even the most beautiful record of Moby so far!
At least it's the best record of the moment! All written,
produced, mixed and sung by himself. Oh, and he also
happens to play all the instruments! Influenced by the black
music of the beginning of this century and by hiphop of this
moment (Jay-Z, Timbaland, Busta Rhymes) Richard Hall
('cause that's Moby's real name) created a CD with style.
,,Play" is just as varying as mr. Moby himself. Sometimes
a bit dark, sometimes a bit frightening, stirring, energetic
and most of all: very addictive! Very Moby, very good!
(EL)
- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
- ---
I've also read a very positive review of Run On in a Dutch
Dj magazine, but I'm a bit frightened Run On won't reach
the charts. Dutch music tv stations don't play the clip, radio
stations don't play the song (yet)...
I sure hope this is going to change!
Oh, yeah, thanks to Moby and V2 for the Honey/Run On CDs!
(good commercial move of V2...)
bye

Hi All,
First, I have to ask...
"Jay-Z, Timbaland, Busta Rhymes"
I've listened to Play 10+ times and I cannot see influence from the above,
am I missing something?
Now, everyone is gonna hate me for this one...but, to be frank, I cannot
stand 'Play' as a whole. I love
Honey and Run On, but outside of that only one track catches my attention -
down slow. Outside of that,
the rest of the album seems, well, like rehash of Honey and Run On to me.

That is funny......Honey and Run On are the 2 tracks that I skip over each
time I listen to it. I especially love the tracks towards the end. They
kind of remind me of Hymn and God Moving over the face.......

But who said he was keeping anything a *secret*? Come on--we all read
his interviews, we all know how forthright he is about this stuff,
and we're all famililar with him just saying whatever comes to mind
about whatever you ask him about. My guess? He's probably never been
asked if he was gay in an interview. I'm sure if he'd been asked
three or four years ago he'd have said so, but wasn't till now. Just
a guess, but I don't think an invalid one.
It's nice that it's not really excited that much in the way of
anyone's shock, though--"Big deal" seems to be the overall tone,
or "Oh, that's interesting." Very cool.

Subject: (mobility) Looping...
Hey, It is about time someone said that they didn't like PLAY. Everyone was
raving about Run On, and I still can't get into that one, so at least having
one person not like it makes me feel better about my chances of LIKING it.
Next, as far as the selling out conversation that seem t happen every three
months, i just want to say I think that they reason peopel hate "sell outs" is
that when some techno guy becomes famous, the fan loses the ability to show
their friends the music for the first time. It is pretty cool to give a CD to
a friend who thinks techno music is ACE of BASE and shittign club music and
then have them be HOLY SHIT THIS IS AWESOME. IF radio and MTV takes that
chance from us, well then I guess people get sour. Also, everyone calls
Prodigy a sell out. Justified. Me too. But you can't call Crystal Method or
Fat Boy Slim sell outs. It was the first album, so did they real have a past
to sell out? I don't think Chem Bros sold out, they just made a horrible album
after a pretty good first one. And, what is the deal with this TECHNO GUYS
word. What is the deal with the TECHNO GIRLS? I remember this conversation
too, but is there really any big SOLO tecno girls. Bjork always seems to get
listed in the ROCK section in HMV and TOWER, and other than her I can't think
of anyone.
Finally, Chris, you are new right? One more thing I wanted to say is, I don't
really care, but for some odd reason, some people get pissed as hell if you
cross list post. I you want to post something to more than one list, you
should send it as two seperate mails. I don't know why. But also, remember
that there are some peopel on more than one list. So, I read that Orbital
Concert Mail on the Orbital List and then again when you forwarded it here. If
that guy who posted it were on this list too, he might get quite pissed as
well. You should say where you got it. Just trying to keep us out of trouble,
you know? Anyway, Later.

Matos - I just read an interview forum on YAHOO where he was asked straight
up if he was gay and he said, "No, I like the girlies" or something like that.
Actually in the online question/answer stuff he was REALLY funny. Got to hand
it to him. I was crackking-up reading it.

Run On is getting some airplay here in Dallas on 94.5 The Edge.
They've played a little Moby on the station in the past.
Move - I heard it once. I think they played it a few days.
Revolver - I heard it once.
BTW. Am I the only one on the list from Dallas? Or at least Texas?

Either there's a conspiracy to promote Moby as straight or
bisexual/sexually ambiguous or he's constantly

one should doubt everything!?

You're not the only one, I have to wait too...
But it won't be for long anymore! (4 days encounting 'till Play release!!)
About how I think other people get their promo's:
- - They get them directly from the record companies. (reviewers)
- - Or they get them in 2nd hand music stores where reviewers dump
their records. (I got some nice promo's this way...)
- - Or they work at a radio station (or know someone who works there).
- - Or, like you said, they have some connections at record companies.

Oh, I can think of some...
- - Lady Dana (Netherlands, very popular gabber Dj/producer)
- - Marusha (Germany, used to be a very popular techno Dj/producer.
I haven't heard anything new from her for a long
time...)
- - Miss Djax (Netherlands, Dj/record label owner)
Then there is Dj Rap (UK), she makes jungle/drum&bass, not really
techno, but her music has has the same energy as a good old stompin'
4/4 measure techno track...
This was all not really Moby related, I hope you guy's don't mind...

Hello, I'd just like to thank those who have helped me start to
get the music for Face It, it's for a local band in Scarborough who
REALLY want to play it at a festival.
Anyway, i just heard something this morning from a friend, is Moby going
to be on Radio 1 live next week? What with Play coming out in four days
time, and Run On been the record of the week recently it seems likely to
me.
Also, I've now know there is going to be a festival in Cornwall when
the eclipse happens, I'll be there, and just wondered if Moby would be
at that festival?
I've only got eight days left at college, after that I have no access to
e-mail ( unless I sneak into college to use the computers, like many
people do) so I won't really be capable of posting much more on mobility
after that, so long.

Oh you are so cool! I love Dallas! I wanna live there when
I...er...grow...up...well, anyways. ^_^ For now, I am not in Texas, but
I will be so don't feel bad! I'm going to A&M for college! Whee! ^_^
And I would so be in Texas already except I was born here. *shrug* ^_^
Anyways.
And since this is mostly off topic, everyone who buys cds right
when they first come out has such a priveledge, let alone getting them
- -earlier- than the release date. I wait for them to show at used stores
*and believe me with some things that wait is long...* Until I have my
own money, I will, anyways. So no, Kohut, you are not the only normal
person, but then, I'm not a normal person so I guess I shouldn't say that?
Hmmm.
And bai to Tom person who's leaving college soon? *sniff* I
don't even know you but my own graduation is coming up next Tuesday and so
it makes me sad to hear anyone leaving anything...^_^; How's that for
silly? Alright, 'nuff mostly off topic. Have fun!
