  51. it seems that they're using a master DAT and playing live, miked instruments 
  52. over the top.  that's what they were doing the 2nd time I saw Moby.  but I 
  53. don't recall how many live instruments were used the last time I saw (in 
  54. Oakland, CA...MATOS, do you remember?)  it was an all dance set too, so the 
  55. use of live instruments was scaled down.

  60. yes, audiences usually suffer from extremely short attention span.  the more 
  61. simple & scaled down you can make it, the easier it's going to be to pull 
  62. off.  you can make a DAT of your 'backbone' tracks and bring only your live 
  63. instruments. experience has taught me that it's better than trying to bring 
  64. your whole studio.

  140. I seem to recall that when Moby plays live it's about half-and-half. I work 
  141. at First Avenue in Minneapolis, and the last time Moby played there (I had 
  142. to work in the 7th St. Entry, next door--smaller annex room for local and 
  143. touring bands, great and all, but DAMN! I missed Moby, grrr), I was there 
  144. for soundcheck. It sounded like about 50-60 percent of the music was piped 
  145. in, and the rest was live. But I've always heard rumors that his musicians 
  146. are just miming anyway, so who fucking knows?

  171. I think the end of May is enough. People have already had so much time to
  172. complete and send their music, that I don't think much more will drop in.
  173. My experience from earlier Internet projects of this type is that the
  174. longer you wait, the greater the risk that key persons wirking on the
  175. project disappear and the whole project gets wasted.

  177. But I'd like to hear other opinions as well...are their still people
  178. working on tracks for the CD?

  197. I have some friends who are in a band who REALLY want to preform FACE IT
  198. at a local festival for local bands this August. Problem is, we can't
  199. get hold of the sheet music for it. Keep looking, at the moment they are
  200. just listening to Face It over and over and over again to learn the
  201. song, but this is a hard way to learn a song, escpecially considering
  202. there is the five minute brilliant guitar solo to learn. So, can anyone
  203. help us, please.......
  204.         Somebody told me where to get the lyrics a while ago, cheers,
  205. but we need the sheet music.

  285. when i play live it's done in three different ways depending on the
  286. song:

  288. 1)electronic song type one: live drums, live bass, live keyboards,
  289. live percussion, samples and other things on hard disk.  the stuff
  290. on hard disk is playback, but it's not a dat.  not that i have a problem
  291. with dat, but generating playback from hard disk gives me a lot more
  292. compositional freedom.
  293.  
  294. 2)electronic song type two: same as above but with playback coming
  295. from a sequencer on stage hooked up via midi to samplers, synths, etc.
  296. basically this is the same as #1, except that in #1 the sequencer and
  297. equipment are in my house when i record them to hard disk.  doing things
  298. from a sequencer on stage gives the performer more flexibility with the
  299. arrangement, whereas doing the sequences at home onto hard disk gives you
  300. more control regarding the overall sound.

  302. 3)rock song: all live instruments, nothing on computer or playback.

  304. so that's it.  that's how i play live.  i have three other musicians
  305. with me when i play live.  at present they are:

  540. Moby's new album, "Play", will be released worldwide by Mute Records on May 
  541. 17, except in the US and Canada, where V2 Records will release the album on 
  542. June 1, and in Japan, where Mute will release it on July 7.

  544. To celebrate the album's release, Moby will be performing live at midnight 
  545. on May 31 at the Virgin Megastore in Union Square, New York. Plans are 
  546. being made for an World Wide Web broadcast. Moby will also be hosting a 
  547. number of special launch parties in key US markets immediately prior to and 
  548. after the release of the record.

  550. Unfortunately, due to his global promotional commitments, Moby's two live 
  551. shows at the Scala in London on May 19 and 20  have been rescheduled to 
  552. September 21 and 22. These new dates will launch a six-week tour of Europe;

  554. being set up.

  597. To celebrate the album's release, Moby will be performing live at midnight
  598. on May 31 at the Virgin Megastore in Union Square, New York. Plans are
  599. being made for an World Wide Web broadcast. Moby will also be hosting a
  600. number of special launch parties in key US markets immediately prior to and
  601. after the release of the record.

  603. Unfortunately, due to his global promotional commitments, Moby's two live
  604. shows at the Scala in London on May 19 and 20  have been rescheduled to
  605. September 21 and 22. These new dates will launch a six-week tour of Europe;
  606. extensive tour dates for the US, Canada, Australia and Japan are currently
  607. being set up.

  609. Tickets bought for the original Scala shows will be valid for the new
  610. dates, or refunds can be obtained from point of purchase.
