Subject: Re: (mobility) RE: THANKS II
I too think that the Thanks 2 project should not be rushed at all. I wouldn't
care if it was pushed back to near the end of the summer. That way people have
plenty of time to work on their songs, the new real Moby CD will have already
come out and maybe someone can find a new song they like and want to mix, and
it will just be better. There is no point in doing something half-assed, and
should Thanks 2 be made and it sucks, well then I am pretty sure that there
will never be a Thanks 3. But if it is good, well then it will motivate people
to do better and want to be included and have one of these produced every
year, you know. By the way, what is the deal with the art work. i have
something that I would like to submit even though it has about as much to do
with Moby a mouse trap. (OOOPS) Anyway, of course I would get Thanks 2 either
way it comes, I would prefer it to be something that I could listen to more
than once. Oh and by the way, Christian, I am the one in Japan. But I am
looking forward to getting back to America in less than a month (even though I
will be there only a week till I come back here) and opening all my packages
that are waiting for me! I don't even know what CDs are there anymore but I
know some pimp Moby Orbital Utah Saints ORB BT and Aphex! Anyway, Later.

It sounds like a good idea to have song snippets that people can listen to
and vote on. I'm in favor of that. that way, 'Thanks II' would be more of
a collective vibe of Mobility, rather than one person's opinion of how a
Moby tribute album 'should' sound. maybe in the time it takes to put that
together & then vote on it (say, a couple more months), you could still
accept entries. for some reason, I was under the impression you had more
material. thanks for the update.

It's from 1993 and the track is somewhat tribal and minimalistic with a slow
buildup throughout the entire song. the term ambient trance comes to mind.

Hey there people out there in Mobility land. This is kyle. i have
been completely silent since my introduction, but i do have one little
bit of info for all of you hardcore moby fans out there. there is one
more comp. that moby shows up on that i have. maybe nobody has said
anything about it because everyone else already knows about it already,
and if so, i'm sorry to bring it up. hopefully it will help someone.
there is a moby track on MOM II, (music for our mother ocean
vol. 2). it is called " the blue light of the underwater sun". the comp.
is a bunch of stuff that i can't stand listening to, but the moby track
is really cool. a good intro and a really hard, fast techno song in
general. i don't know if it is worth buying the whole cd to get it, but
i'm sure you can find it on the net if you want to sample it before
purchasing. don't ask me how i got the cd in the first place, it is
really embarrassing. anyways, sorry to take up so much space for this. i
guess i am making up for my silence. take care.

First of all, sorry about all the criticism Greg. I think it's pretty hard
to collaborate on a project like this with so many people over email. I
don't want you to feel unappreciated though. Thanks for helping out with
all this stuff....
I don't think there's any need to rush the project. I've been waiting for
it ever since last time as well, but like someone said, I'd rather have a
good album later than a bad one sooner. I'm sure we're not /that/ hungry
for a new album. With "Play" coming out and all the other releases this
summer we should have a pretty good time collecting music. "Thanks II"
will be great, but I don't think any of us have exactly been waiting on the
edge of our seats for it. (Maybe with the exception of those who produced
tracks).
My nomination is that we set a deadline of July 1st. That will give an
additional 2 months for whoever wants to contribute. In the meantime, we
should post the tracks that have been submitted online so that the rest of
the members can make their own judgments. I'm sure you have good taste
Greg, but yeah, I think the majority of us should be able to vote on the
tracks before going into production. Maybe real audio format? If you need
me to convert and host that stuff let me know.... I think in order to push
people along we need to put this on everyone's mind and post this pretty
soon. It would help inspire people, get them excited, and so on.
About cover art: if we're going to postpone the submission date for tracks,
I see no reason why we can't do the same for the art. To view current
submissions and to find out how to enter your own art, go to
http://blaise.anderson.edu/~adekunle/mobility.
Hang in there people, be patient, don't get frustrated. We all have lives
outside of mobility, and that's why it's taking so long and that's why it's
so unorganized.
Peace.

The track is also on the "Everytime You Touch Me" single, which IMHO would
be worth the purchase.

Don't apologize. As long as it's relevant, Moby-related information then
speak all you want. I think we only get annoyed when it's uninteresting,
unrelated, rambling information.

ok so i didnt really think that idea through..
i agree about the half assed thing.
in a sense my email was half assed. (woo hoo!)
i guess in the mean time i'll try and make another track if needed.
the only problem i see with setting a deadline is that it gets set
and then it somehow gets forgotten..
so maybe we shouldnt set a deadline but rather a minimum tracklist?
like its not complete until so and so songs have been chosen (by the voting
thingy)
thats all from me in the idea department, im fresh out.
in case any of you are bored though and want to hear the real audio versions

what ive done, you can go to

Moby says:
"i don't have much to say regarding my sexual preferences, except
that personally i don't think it should really be an issue. not
just regarding my choices, but regarding anyones. it's my opinion
that people should be free to do whatever they choose to do so long
as they're involved with consenting adults. i could state very
clearly whether i'm straight or gay or bi-sexual, but i won't,
because i would like this to be an un-loaded non-issue. personally
i find it very difficult to approach matters of attraction in a
dichotomous, rigidly defined way. doesn't it make more sense to
say that you like different people differently? there are
beautiful men and beautiful women. there are sexy men and sexy
women. but then again there are beautiful fax-machines and ugly
fax-machines. beauty is essentially a subjective response to
something, and for me it's not hierarchical."

Moby's DJ set at Mayday - Soundtropolis was broadcasted on the radio. If
anyone is interested in a tape of this, please let me know. Moby played a
lot of hardhouse, with some trancier tunes. Think of DJs like Mrs Woods,
Jason Nevins or Piet Blank to get an idea of this.
Steve Giles: the German Run On 12" hasn't been released yet, but the UK
version is available. I couldn't listen to it yet because my copy doesn't
run on my turntable.

Howdy there Moby fans...I got a question for those of you out there who know
how Electronica works in performance...I have been hooking up with a few
other musicians and they have their minds set on doing all the fun stuff we
do in the studio live...I've seen Moby in concert once, which inspired me to
go into electronic music, and I would like to know how he, and other
electronic musicians, do their shows live...do they have a prerecorded DAT or
ADAT tape and just layer on as they desire? do they use a MIDI filer and
just hook that up to their gear? I would just hate, and I know the audience
would hate it too, to have me spend a minute or two reorganizing my modules
after every song....anyways, if any of you know or give a whoop as to what I
just said, write back and let me know what you do, think, know about
electronic performances...take care loyal Moby worshipers!

Hey, I looked up the ticket site and they don't have a band list. How can I
be sure Moby will be there? I would definately go if he is going to be there.
Is there a site on the net that lists the bands/acts that are attending???
Thanks,

I agree 100%.
I did a remix of "Go" for Thanks 2 and, while I kinda dig it, I know it's in
no way on the same level as something Ryu or Gingerbread or Xaq would put
out.
So... I have an idea for a remix of "Sugar Baby" that I think will turn out
A LOT better than my 'Exodus mix' of "Go".
I'm for letting people work on their stuff some more. I'd rather put a
quality remix on the CD than something that will just be considered filler
(even though I am pretty proud of it myself). I know I can do better if I
have time to work on something.
No need to rush it.
Oh, and I finally got the Run On singles. I LOVE, repeat LOVE Run On,
Spirit, AND Running, although I do think Running ends a little abruptly.
Great, great stuff.
That's it 4 now.

It could be a good competition about what is the proper pronunciation of my
name. but to make it quick. (ehm,, actually not so quick, but let it be)
"kohut" is word in slovak. it means "Cock" or "Rooster" (4 U americans and
english: is there any difference between these words. except "cock" being
sometimes taboo or what? ). so the pronunciation is slovak too. and here we
come to a serious problem, how to describe the pronunciation symbols from the
dictionaries to this ascii. well, i'd rather try to compare it to some words
you sure know.
"ko.." is like "co.." from "cock" or the abbrev. used at the end of an company
name "Co.".
"..hut" is not like "hut" in english. it's rather like "Hoot" with a long vowel
in the middle. so, all in all:
"kohut" = "CoHoot".

Great! so the Mayday Soundtropolis is over, i haven't been there, but my
friend recorded it on VHS and also on minidiscs, so i'm gonna enjoy moby
playing there. depending on the length of the performance, i could maybe
upload the minidisc stuff on the web (when my page will be ready). it's
recorded from satellite broadcasting, so i guess it's a Hiquality.
PLUS: why does moby not make any more records with Mimi Goese ? The two songs
on EIW are very very very beautiful. Anybody heard about other Mimi Goese's
works?
PLUS PLUS: a question about the TINY RUBBERBAND song, moby recorded for the
Spawn soundtrack with the Butthole Surfers. (anyone remembers when he said,
that The Butthole Surfers were one of the bands he'd like to play with. well,
sometimes dreams come true: :) ). and i'm interested in this songs, beacuse,
is it moby singing there? i guess he is, but maybe..
and the second. could please anyone tell me what this song is about? i have
the lyrics from the (im memoriam) www.Lyrics.ch, but it makes no sense to me.

BTW - Cock & Rooster ARE the same in the USA. HOWEVER, cock is
NORMALLY (near any city) used when referring to the penis. If I were
to insult you, I would say, "You are a cock sucker!"
See what I mean? SO you would not go around saying cock all the time.
You are better off just saying rooster so there is no
miscommunication.
