Animal Rights, or the way Elektra promoted it played a
part. In 1996, a power struggle played out in the A&R
department of Elektra records, between two executives,
Seymour Stein and Gloria something or other. Gloria and
her acts won. So that saw the promotion of acts that
she signed over Stein's acts. I don't know which camp
signed moby, but after the hugely succcessful
Everything is Wrong, Elektra didn't know what to do
with Animal Rights (Mute didn't either, but that didn't
stop them from giving it a royal try), and failed to
release more than one single, and didn't use any of the
high profile celebrity remixes (Billy Corgan and Flea)
that were submitted for the one they did release. Moby
was offended by the lack of promotion afforded to the
record, and then to the sure hit of the James Bond
Theme, which Elektra also flubbed. So when his contract
was fulfilled with the release of I Like To Score and
the End of Everything, he opted not to renew his
contract and began looking for a new domestic music
business partner. Which he has now secured with V2.

I'm listening to porcelain right now... its okay. nothing special. better
than honey tho. then again, i'd probably like it more if i wasn't in my
"guys suck everyone i've ever loved has been an asshole and hurt me" phases
so the lyrics aren't the greatest for me to be hearing right now. other
than that, its nice. good beat. pretty piano. i don't really like the
effects on the vocals tho. i would have rather just heard moby's voice.
his voice could lend itself quite well to lyrics like these...
the rest of the playing by heart soundtrack is so-so. at least there's
some branvan. i LOVE those guys. my friends and i saw them live last
year. KICKASS! the fluke song isn't horrible... not their best stuff tho.
the cracker song is sorta cool as well. i dunno. i'm sorta disapointed
in this CD. it won't be getting very heavy rotation, THAT i can tell you
guys right this very moment.

Hi again.
Does anyone know if you can by a guitar book of Animal Rights, I'd
really love to learn to play Face It and Living ( pity I have no musical
talent, but I try, and try and try....)
Also, does anyone know the lyrics for Face It?
Did you get the limited edition (2cd) of EIW or the regular cd?
No, like I said before, music shops where I live are shite, I didn't
know about the 2cd version of EIW untill, er, now actually.
You're lucky you got Bring Back My Happiness, I'm still looking for it.
It cost a bit though, I just wandered out of work late (we'd shut after
somebody just had a nasty accident with a conveyer belt, but nobody was
seriously injured) So I was in a slight shock after seeing this as I
wandered into Andy's records. But there were two friends there and
they'd just found Moby singles ( Hymn and BBMH) so I bought them. But
the state of mind I was in I would have bought the smurfs if somebody
put it in my hand.
I'm going to try to get the DJ at a local club to play In My Life at
fridays rock night. So many people I know love it. ( but not as much as
Face It)
Apparently HMV( or was it Virgin) in York has a massive load of Moby
singles, a friend said. They've probably all been sold by now.

And I was trying to respond to your question. I think Moby
probably made the best move, because of the reasons I
already stated. Companies, big or small, want to run a
business and make a living but all I was saying was that
Indies tend to be more passionate about the music than the
big ones who just want to make a fast cash profit and
sign up any crap that appeals to the commercial market.
Where's the music in that?

All versions are excellent in my opinion.

I am a big Moby fan, but not a big Animal Rights fan. And even though I have 3
copies of the 2CD with Little Idiot (don't ask) I still think that the
American (?) is the best version to buy. Which ever one has the most tracks on
one CD. It blends the metal tracks with the ambient ones nicely. If you like
the screaming tracks on ILTS or EIW, well then you will love AR. You can
probably hear it on CDNOW, right? You might want to go for something else from
Moby first, cause if you don't like it it may turn you off, and if you do,
well that is all there is of that type of music from him.
Anyway, I think I asked this years ago, but are there any other Utah Saints
fans around here? Is there anyone who knows or somewhere I can find a
discography? What the hell happened to them? I heard they did a 2CD release,
but their Record copany pulled it at the last minute. I also heard there was
actually a single release of OHIO, but have never seen or heard of it
anwyhere. Please help! Thanks a lot. Later.

Actually I think I agree with A.J., I've been swung by the
U.S. version - more variety on the one CD. But AR is one of
my favs from Moby.

I also got invited to join the other moby fan club, but I don't think
I'll do that... I only joined the moby club because of the chat thing.
But there's nothing really happening there at the moment. Perhaps
if the club had more members it would be fun....

Hello Everyone.
I bought the English version of this album when it first came out and I still
think it's one of the best things that Moby has ever done.
However I've just ordered through 'Music Boulevard' the U.S. version of this
album which has dropped 'Animal Sight' but has included a track called
'Reject.'
Any particular reason why this was done?
Cheers,

"Reject" is also the last song on the UK Animal Rights bonus disc,
Little Idiot. It was probably (I'm guessing) put on the US version of
The End Of Everything to make it longer. Reject is 18+ minutes long
whereas Animal Sight is 7+ minutes. If you don't have the 2CD version of
Animal Rights, you'd be better off buying that and the UK version of The
End Of Everything. You get more music for your money that way.
