I'm confused.  Who decided it was Bash Clay Day?  Clay rocks.  I'd hate to
see  him go.  I'd probably leave soon after he leaves/gets kicked off, for
fear of bordem.  I'm glad that I haven't been keeping up with my digests
(too much skool work) to see how far downhill this list has gone.  Soon
enough we'll all be country line dancing *shudder*.  Can't we all give
PEACE a chance.  It IS the holiday season, ya know.  Why don't we stop all
our bickering and then start up again Jan 2?  PLEEZE?

Anyway, its coming up to dissection time at skool so being the good little
veggie gurl that I am, I'm refusing to participate again this year.  Which
means I'll probably end up writing another essay that has to do with Animal
Rights.  Last year I wrote about why animal testing isn't needed.  This
year I'm stuck for ideas.  I'm thinking about taking a moby quote and
expanding on it, relating it to my own life.  Anyone got any fave moby
quotes they'd like to share?  Hmm?  Anyone paying attention, or is everyone
too busy ripping each others heads off?

Okay,

I'm sorry but I've had enough of people attacking each other and being
disrespectful of each other.  Isn't it possible to disagree without
turning a conversation into a flame war?  The last digest that came
through was not only off topic, more than 90%, but half of it turned out
to be complete shit that should have been directed to the individual and
not the list.

Leaving the list to moderate itself seems to be getting us nowhere.

I have never "attacked" clay on the list.  When he [mis]directed his anger
toward me regarding the puffy string I responded to him personally, keeping
it off the list.  But I must agree with Xaq, his behavior is unacceptable(at
least to me) from this moment on, I will simply filter him out of my email.
I suggest you do the same Xaq.  Though his immaturity will probably warrent
some REALLY SCATHING response, ooooo.

Anyway, on a side note, I was speaking with a guy I work with and he claimed
that Moby did a cover of Devo's whip it.  Does any one know anything about
this?  What CD does it appear on if any?

If you don't know who he is, he's the moderator of the list.  That means
he's God.  Listen.

O.K.  He wasn't subtle, but I guess he wasn't blunt enough.  So let's all
shut up about clay and XAQ and Puffy and all that shit.  Just drop it here.
 We're going nowhere.  Can we do that?  If someone needs to put in an extra

Did you ever consider looking at the discography on the moby.org site?
Have you even been there, ***please*** these questions are much more tedious
than
someone's original point of view on something....
It's easy to find and mentioned every week on this list- MOBY.ORG
Everything you need to know about his releases is there so stop wasting our
time.
If you haven't guessed I'm flaming you because clay didn't deserve this

i've been talking to one of the people who works at the label that's
distributing his new stuff, and she says she's working on getting a DJ
tour set up for him. i didn't get a date, but he will also be making some
radio station visits.
i said this before, but i think it got lost in the noise...

yes, he did a cover of "whip it" called the "death metal" version. it's
really slow with lots of guitars and screaming. pretty funny the first
couple of times, but it gets old fast. it pops up in a few places (like
was so nicely said, you could check the discography) and is available on
a cute 7", along with the origional version of revolver.

list....and
we are up to about a dozen now and our posts range from dan's
sexual/romantic yearnings, my own on-going trials and tribulations with
everything from the sun and the moon to the way in which toilet-paper is
hung....and of course....music that we like.

xaq....i dare invite you and the rest of mobility to join us as part of
the list and subsequent discussion.
just as you, i find we have much to learn from each other
and i've always been of the belief that a lot of peace is a good thing
after a lot of war.
and talking it out......always talking.
and we can do it in a way where we don't breach the protocol of non-moby

When I was in High School, I tried to get out of dissection labs on moral
grounds, and my teacher basically said "I don't give a crap about your
morals.  If you want to pass the class, you will cut this damn frog open!"
I thought that was very enlightened for a catholic high school.

Anyway, about the topic of said essay, you said you wrote about how animal
testing wasn't necessary last year.  how bout this year write about how
animals are held captive for human "consumption" (Cows for beef and leather,
mink for their furs, etc.)

Kelly, here's a possibility for you. Perhaps you could write about how
msuic/musicians have affected your life? Did Moby get you thinking on
certain issues or did those issues lead you to Moby? Maybe you can write
about how musicians/celebrities can change the world. (Moby with Animal
Rights/Veganism, U2 promoting the peace process in Ireland, ten million
stars trying to free Tibet, etc.) Wait, this is science class. Hmmm. Last
year you did one on animal testing. How about animal consumption and
starving people? You could use Moby's facts on meat and grain production,
relate them to each other, and propose a solution for the hunger problem.
(one that works logistically, realistically would be a book-length in-depth
essay thingamawhatyacallit.) Anyhow, good luck.

Although hip-hop has already been explained well by clay, I said you didn't
know what it is because you said it all sucks, when you actually meant that
the commercialized product of it sucks. I was responding to your words, not
your meaning. Your meaning was absent from your words. Many people around
here should take care to reread before they push send, and make sure that
the typed words convey the intended message. And that the message is
thoughtful and appropriate for the list. These personal attacks on people
wear thin, and a lot of it's about 'winning the argument', not
'communicating, sharing, discussing'. This next sentence should not be

That turns this list into a shitswamp. There is no place for viciousness
like that on the list, Xaq. Clay was commenting on how the shallowness in
entertainment rubs off on impressionable youths, and the like. (out of
place) You came back with extremely unkind grammar critique and art theory
and theology. (very out of place) Why? Stop the pollution. I know we're
moving on now. I usually restrain myself from participation in this kind of
thing, but I had to purge. Besides, I had nothing else to respond to. Back
to my lone struggle to keep alive the  conversations that got drowned
out....

Are you an active music buyer? Do you check the 'M' section each time you go
to the music store? Do you wait for gift season to get more music? I've been
buying about $40 a week in music, pretty excessive, but I'm lucky and I can,
so I do, for now. This week I bought Joy Division, Green Day, Soul Asylum,
Moby, U2, & Faithless. Next week: Talking Heads.

I found Instinct Dance! It has what appears to be a slightly longer version
of Go, by fifteen seconds. This CD is very simalar to Early Underground,
with many of the same edits. The Voodoo Child Remix is correctly listed on
here too, although this same track on EU isn't. It's missing the 'remix'
denotation. The actual original Voodoo Child (not the EU/Instinct Dance  or
Poor in NY off Rare) has elements of Slight Return in it. One VC mix (also
not on CD) practically does all of Slight Return inside it! It's awesome!
The original doesn't, though it just has *elements of slight return, the
sound without the song. Instinct Dance also has Drop A Beat and Have You
Seen My Baby, which EU doesn't. I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of this CD
to hear the latter.  As far as I know the only other Have You Seen out there
is the Baby mix on Rare. Who can tell me if these are the same? Different?
BTW, Early Undeground has five tracks that Instinct Doesn't. They are: UHF3,
Protect Write, Time Signature, Peace Head, Barracuda, & M-Four.

If you could play 2 Moby songs to your school/company/extended family, which
would they be, and why? I would choose Feeling So Real and God Moving Over
The Face Of The Waters. Feeling So Real because of it's infectuous joy. My
sister listens to country music mostly, and I got her hooked with this song!
I gave her my EIW tape since I have the CD now. She plays it in her car all
the time. God Moving I would choose because it would be easier for midrange
adults and up to appreciate. If I played Next Is The E they'd all cover
their ears. God Moving is nice and mellow, easy to swallow, but it still
retains Moby's artistic greatness. This is one of few Moby songs that could
go over on 'lite' radio. Of course vocals would be necessary, which would
ruin it... but oh well. You got the idea. Have field day with this topic,
PLEASE.
