Wow! I had a well-filled mailbox this morning. Looks like we have even more
of a community now than before. Very cool.
At my high school poularity was money, put simply. If you were well-dressed
with the latest fashions and had a confident attitude you could be popular,
if you wanted those friends. About 80% of our popular people relied on
insulting to maintain their lofty images, so we had lots of lines drawn
between imaginary group and lots of resentment there. I was good target when
I had those pants on so most of everybody was afraid to be seen talking to
me. I had some interesting times, though.
The Underworld concert was fun! I got there late and didn't get in until a
half hour past scheduled opening time. It was packed and I didn't see Xaq
there, but I was there until they closed. Darren Emerson DJ'ed for about 30
minutes after Underworld was finished, and then the booth DJ closed the
night. Xaq, did you keep the concert surprise to your g/f until you were
inside the House Of Blues?
Don't get the wrong impression here! I'm not a mouse. I speak. I just try
not to speak frivolously. I'm not the guy standing on the table at the party
telling jokes. I'm not the host of the party. I try to wait until I have
something to say until I speak. I get tired of all that "how's the weather?
I'm doing great, I heard Bob's cheating on Jenny, noway its yer fault!"
crap.
Paul, I don't think that's white label only. There's 2 Intergalactic 12"s
that I know of. The US & UK ones each have one exclusive mix but are
otherwise the same. The're a superfast one (I have the US 12") that's prolly
your gabber mix, and a droning jungle version which I can see being very
'q-zar'. Actually, the white label people miss out because there's two giant
hamster paintings on the covers with the hamster chasing people and chewing
on power lines. Very tasteful.
You'll like the Honey 12", people! The Sweet Honey mix is Daft Punk meets
Moby and it's pure bliss.

As one of those outcasts, I applaud your thinking here. I think its great
that I can "talk" to people I normally would not give a second glance to on
the street.

Anyone here see the movie "Pi"? What did you think?

The rave I went to last New years (1998) seemed like there was an older
crowd (by older I mean 18-24 as opposed to 16-19). No one ever asked me if
I had anything or if I was high. The big thing I remember was that it was
cold (whoever decided to hold a rave in an underground parking garage was
high on something when the idea came up!)

I knew that header would get your attention! Pschology folks! Here's the
rub: THE LAST TWENTY-SOMETHING MESSAGES I'VE HAD TO DELETE ARE ALL ABOUT
WHAT YOU PEOPLE LOOK LIKE. I DON' T CARE. YOU DON'T CARE. LET'S EITHER
CHANGE THE NAME OF THE LIST TO "SORRY NON-MOBY POST" OR START TALKING
ABOUT MOBY OR MOBY-RELATED ISSUES. ANYTHING ABOUT REAL LIFE, MORAL
CHOICES, i.e.-THINGS THAT AREN'T SUPERFICIAL. I REFUSE TO APOLOGIZE FOR
THIS BEING NON-MOBY RELATED BECAUSE IT ISN'T. I KNOW A GUY WHO GOT IN A
CAR WRECK AND HIS FACE LOOKS LIKE IT GOT FROZEN IN THE ACT OF MELTING.
DOES IT REALLY MATTER? HOW WOULD YOU FEEL IF YOU SAW A BUNCH OF MESSAGES
WHERE EVERYONE'S COMPLAINING ABOUT HOW THEY HAVE ZITS OR ARE TOO SKINNY,
FAT, ETC. AND YOUR FACE WAS MELTED OFF? THIS IS THE KIND OF THING THAT
HAPPENS WHEN THE SOLE BASIS OF LIFE IN A COUNTRY IS BASED ON MATERIAL
GOODS. I AM NOT A CONSUMER. PEOPLE USED TO BE CITIZENS, NOW THEY'RE
CONSUMERS. I DON'T EXIST JUST TO BUY STUFF. IF YOU DO, I FEEL SORRY FOR
YOU. PLEASE THINK TWICE BEFORE POSTING A MESSAGE THAT SEEMS BORING EVEN TO
YOU AS YOU SEND IT.
I'm not a hard ass or a negative person, but i get very sick of spending 2
and a half hours erasing a bunch of messages that don't belong on this
list. Everyone is born looking some way, and unfortunately the way they
look affects their self-concept, outlook on life, friends, and the way
people react towards them. If you are unsatisfied with an aspect of your
life, work to fix it. If it is something unchangeable, accept it and do
the most you can with what you've got. I used to be embarassed about my
body. Two and a half years ago I became a vegetarian and started weight
training. My doctor said that I am the healthiest person he has seen since
he examined a professional athlete who paid a personal trainer thousands of
dollars a week. I'm nowhere near perfect, but i HAVE realised that sitting
around wishing never gets you anywhere. You get out of life what you put
into it. THANK-YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR TIME.
Post-Script: Isn't it ironic that to refute an issue, i had to discuss it
again?

I don't remember who said it, but someone mentioned thinking vinyl sounds
better. I'm not sure if it is the actual sound or intangibles, but i know
what yah mean! We vinyl freaks get this FEELING when we see a record
spinning. Especially a moby record! I can sit in front of a turntable and
just be entranced watching a record spin. I'm so intrigued by music coming
out of a piece of plastic with grooves in it. I find that most people are
jaded by all of this technology, but i am so fascinated I don't have time
to be jaded. I mean, there is music(The ultimate sensation) coming out of
plastic grooves! WOW! I am unable to get over it.
From what i've read in various moby interviews since I LIKE TO SCORE, the
new cd is going to be a mix of Electronic dance stuff, mellow
instrumental/electronic stuff, and some of his guitar stuff. A mix of
EVERYTHING IS WRONG, ANIMAL RIGHTS, and HONEY, maybe?
Anyone heard the new Plastikman? I bought it the first day it was out, and
i was entranced by it. Excellent way to end the Plastikman saga. The only
track i was dissappointed in was "Hypokondriak" 'cause it is EXACTLY the
same as "Sickness" except slower. Just like the "GAK" remix was EXACTLY
the same as "GAK" except alot faster. I find "Pakard" to be my favorite
song off of the cd, as well as possibly being the best Plastikman song
ever. Reminiscent of sheet one, only WAY better. His little whiny synth
sound is at it's peak on this one! I love RICHIE. I love RICHARD. Happy
day!
Post-Script: Isn't it funny that my two favorite electonic musicians are
named "RICHARD" and "RICHIE"? I thought so.

Not YOU PEOPLE. It's WE. US.
You seem to think we're fighting with our own images and trying to feel
better about ourselves through a help group. We're not. We are simply
describing ourselves to try and put a face with a voice. Just trying to
know our friends a little bit. We're seeing how we're alike and not. But
thank you anyway for the sermon. Here's one for you.
This list is a Moby list. Granted. Somebody wrote this weekend about how
boring the list can be if all we did was talk about Moby. So do it
elsewhere, you say. I can understand that, but...
This list is for the members. As a group (very important) we are discussing
stuff that began with Moby and ventured off elsewhere, to your disdain. By
doing so we are very likely helping increase the feeling of community on
this list (as opposed to garbled voices in a crowded room, we have
conversation) which in turn I think will increase the depth of discussion
(moby and non) and lift the level of fun we can get out of this list. This
is what WE are doing. If you don't like the subject, change it. Start a
topic you'd like to see on this list. I'll happily join in.
Then again, isn't curiosity about other Moby fans actually on-topic?
>>You get out of life what you put into it.
Same with mobility. If you aren't a negative person, then do the positive
thing and put in what you'd like to get out. I just got mail and see you
have. Wonderful.
And thank you for your time.

I'm sure you're not the first. Just the first in a good while. I would've a
long time ago if I thought it would make a difference to anybody. But
listservs are a bit too anonymous for anyone to really care if you're gay or
not. But to date, I've met exactly one person on the list in real life (DJ
Darryl Cottier, as featured with RYU on the NSoul Eclectica2 sampler), and
we got to talk for about ten minutes at a music fest. A great time was had
by all. But there's still 249 of you I've never seen and probably never
will. :[

>>FEELING when we see a record spinning
Yes! I don't know if it's a difference in sound systems or what, but.. well
I've heard vinyl can reach about 3% higher or lower in sound frequency, but
I don't know if that's true, and I don't know if those ranges that I read
about are even audible to humans. But after listening to a vinyl version of
a song and then going to CD the CD sounds canned, for lack of a better
description. Speaking of records, I got a Mobility 12" today in a Go remixes
sleeve. Strange, eh? Remember that Go picture with Moby's face all wavy?
It's that on the sticker, in black and white with extremely low resolution
printing. (it look striped) I also got a dubnobasswithmyheadman 2xLP. Just
for fun.
>>A mix of EVERYTHING IS WRONG, ANIMAL RIGHTS, and HONEY, maybe?
No. Something new. Honey can't be lined up with any of Moby's previous
efforts. I think it will be the most alien and most human record I've heard
in a while. I anticipate, therefore I am.
>>Anyone heard the new Plastikman?
It must be very new, because I got 'consumed' about 4 months ago and I
thought it was new. All the songs begin with 'C' except for 1 or 2. I like
it sometimes, but it's very hollow and dark.. One needs to wear headphones,
otherwise it's just a CD full of tones and beats. Interesting, but not
recommended. I like Spastik too, haven't heard any other Plastik besides
that and the CD I have.
There seem to be a lot of Richards in the hightech music scene. Besides Hall
and Hawtin, we have James, Fearless, and, um, I know there's more. Anybody?
Your topics were only about 50% Moby. All of us have other things to say,
see? Was it just the descriptions topic you didn't like?

Wow, someone's a little hostile.
Do you blame people on this list for being curious about each other? It's
only natural to wonder about other aspects of people's lives. I, for one,
can't help but be curious about people's backgrounds and such after reading
their ideas...
Do you blame us for finding it amazing that so many different types of
people are brought together by Moby's music? I certainly believe the fact
that such a variety of people are connected by Moby's art to be Moby
related. I think Moby would be thrilled to know that people from so many
walks of life and backgrounds are brought together by his music.

I know exactly what you're talking about. I don't know if it's just big
dance club sound systems, or if it's the physical rub of the needle against
the vinyl, or the psychoacoustic dynamics of the way we perceive analog
sound vs. digital sound, But vinyl seems to have more depth and thump, it
sounds more live than cd.
I'd love to go back and hear a lot of moby cuts on vinyl I've only heard on
disc. I bet Hymn (I Believe) would make your head explode.

Hey Gang,
For the first time, I like the way I look, so I'll play along with this game
for the sake of participation.
Brad Caviness, 28, 5'7", 130 lbs, brown hair, hazel eyes hidden under thick
glasses. Used to be heavy set, now I'm just thin and lumpy. My sense of
style crosses several boundaries, for example, this weekend I went out
dancing in black hockey jersey, black baggy jeans, combat boots, as kind of
a goth/punk/jock (now there's a laugh)/raver type. Usually, though, this
time of year it's just jeans/tshirt/zip-up sweatshirt jacket for the full on
emo-kid look. In other words, I spend wa-a-ay too much time shopping in
thrift stores (ObMoby: which incidentally is where Moby buys many of the
records and what not he grabs his samples from; the choral sample in
Hymn-this is my dream-, for example).
