I'm a girl, and i think moby is cute. the look on his face in some of
the photos i've seen makes me want to cuddle him and put him in my
pocket. 'kay i'll stop being pink now :)

Perhaps this may be the case. I currently am in a music theory class, and

Blah. I still haven't recieved my Moby stuff yet :( I ordered the Moby
hat thingy
for my brother for Christmas, I hope it arrives in time. Well it SHOULD...
or else
I'll have to start complaining.

Lots of people are saying I'm nuts for wanting to leave the biggest city in
Canada,
but I'm still looking forward to the west coast. Actually, its Burnaby
that I'm heading
to. I want to go to Simon Fraiser, plus one of my best friends lives out
there. And I'm
working on getting my other two best friends to move out there too. *evil
grin* I know a pretty
cool guy in kelowna too... but enough about BC. When I asked Desi (my bud
out there in Burnaby) if he knew who Moby was,
his answer was, "Hey! Isn't that the new british group that made
it over here??"
*kelly hangs her head in shame* i guess I haven't taught him too well.
but i'm working
on it.
> i got 4 or 5 moby digests over the last few days. good to see, good to

yup. very good. but i'm going to lose all the back issues i've collected
when i reformat
my HD tomorra (not by choice though). :(

I'm still trying to decide if I want to shave my head or not. I almost did
it when
I was in grade nine (*begins singing Grade Nine by the bare nude dudes*
this was
me in grade nine baby... this was me in grade nine) by my mom freaked at
the last

Lots and lots and lots of American crap... err programming. Well, some if
it isn't
that bad. I watch ER on a daily basis (mmm... Anthony Edwards...)
Canadian TV
gives us lots of kickass programming like The Kids in the Hall (you haven't
lived till
you watch this show. WATCH IT! LOOK IT UP ON YAHOO!!! JUST DO SOMETHING!)
*ahem* Just for Laughs is good too. Same with Royal Canadian Air Farce.
And who
can for get Degrassi High? That was the blue print for BH 90210, but of
course the
American producers screwed it up :( So umm yeah... theres a lot more to
Canadian
TV than Hockey (but Hockey Night In Canada kicks ass. No stupid streaks on
the
puck!! Fox is evil!) Canadian TV is pretty much like American TV but a lot
cooler,
in my opinion. But then, any place that doesn't have MTV is pretty cool
:)
Man... that was a mini rant. whoops :)

i'm sure you're all familiar with this. i ask you to read it again... really
read it. this essay helped to change my life. it really did that. i hjave
changed a lot about myself as a result of reading moby's thoughts, and
listening to his music. His positive lifestyle, positive music, and radical
attitude is incredible.
an essay by Moby, from the album Everything is Wrong
''by "everything is wrong" i mean EVERYTHING. i look around me- i'm typing on
a plastic and glass and metal computer perched on a desk made from cut down
trees and toxic paint. i sit in a building made of wood and bricks that were
taken from the earth on a street made of poisonous asphalt that was laid over
an ecosystem that had thrived for hundreds of thousands of years. i'm clothed
in cotton that was saturated with pesticides while it grew and treated with
toxic chemicals while it was being processed. all of my possessions were made
hundreds or thousands of miles away and shipped in styrofoam and plastic wrap
via gas burning engines and destructive road and air ways to me. my food,
although completely vegan, is shipped from where it was grown to my local
store and is often packaged in paper, plastic, metal, and toxic inks. i know
tons of people that eat meat, smoke cigarettes, drive cars, use drugs etc.,
even though they know that these things will ultimately hurt the quality (and
length) of their lives. i live in an apartment building where no one is on a
first name basis. i know more about idiot actors in hollywood that i've never
met than i do about the womyn who live next door to me (and is probably more
interesting). while walking to work i inhale toxic exhaust from cars sitting
in traffic.
''To make sure that eating 3 cans of oven cleaner will make you sick, or to
make sure that pouring nail polish remover into your eyes will hurt you, we
torture mice, rabbits, dogs, cats, etc. we use toxic chlorine to keep our
underpants white. we cut down the rainforests to drill for oil so that we can
drive to the video store. do you see what i mean? everything really is wrong.
even the back to nature people drive cars and use products made from materials
ripped out of the earth. people struggle all of their lives doing work they
hate just to be a functioning member of a system that is wasteful, destructive
and unhealthy.
''What i advocate is this: a sensible, pragmatic, and nondestructive approach
towards existence. we need to reevaluate our practices. just as it doesn't
make sense to hire an elevator operator to run an automatic elevator, it
doesn't make sense for billions of people to drive to work alone in their
cars. it doesn't make sense to consume animal products. it doesn't make sense
to derive power from nuclear, cole, and petroleum when we have solar, hydro,
and wind power. it doesn't make sense to maintain destructive systems just
because people earn their livings from them. it doesn't make sense to pour
billions of toxic chemicals onto our lawns so that they'll look pretty and
green. i could go on, but you're probably either bored or overwhelmed by now.
i advocate change; massive, massive change.
''basically we should stop doing those things that are destructive to the
environment, other creatures, and ourselves and figure out news ways of
existing.- THAT'S IT.''
I am a teenage boy in the Midwest and Moby has made an incredible difference
on my life. im sure he's had a similar effect on all of you. thanks for your
time.

Okay.. here go my replies for the last couple issues of mobility!!!

>food, think it's take-out night, and go to the kitchen where they tell the

>While they may succeed, I'm personally insulted by the way they show it as
>'OK' and 'normal' to be this way. Without saying or implying it, the
>commercial embraces this message: Stupidity is the norm, your kids are
>stupid, we at Acme food understand this, we understand each other, buy our
>product
The problem is that many people (for reasons I can't personally understand)
buy into
it, and do purchase these products. The stereotyping in commercials REALLY
bugs me!
Especially the stereotype of the sappy housewife. It makes me wonder what
effect exposing
children at a young age to this has on their development.
>It's too bad conformity is cool in my neighborhood. Lots of these kids
have
>amazing potential if only they can break the bonds of mediocrity taught to
>them by an insecure peer group, and parents neglecting to teach the value
of
>self.
Same in my neighborhood!!! Although perspective on conformity could be
said
to be in the eye of the beholder - while conforming in musical taste or
clothing,
a closer look may reveal that some people do not conform as to their
hobbies
etc.
>The record companies cook up

I agree totally! It is so hard to find music that is anything more than
styrafoam
if you don't know where to look. The same goes for movies... they are all
formula
done for quick cash. It is seldom I come across a movie anymore that
surprises
me with its content/symbolisms/deeper meanings and implications. Although
sometimes it is nice to have something to listen to that is quite one
dimensional.
In music messages are conveyed not only by lyrics, but by the music itself
- - as
emotions can be recreated by the artist in the listener whether or not
there are any
words in the song. I like that when I listen to a Moby album every song is
not the
same (to me). I guess I had to add a bit of Moby content to my message!!!
>i received my moby shirts in the mail today-the folks over at def also
sent
>me the honey t-shirt. it has the orange pumpkin on the front with
>moby-honey written on the back. it's a pleasure to do business with them.
>wuhoo!
Cool.. I also recieved my moby shirt on the same day... so I am figuring
they probably
ship all their foreign orders at once (I live in Canada also!!!) However,
I didn't get a
Honey t-shirt, I got stickers of the pumpkin head! I have yet to figure
out what to do
with them...
>i got 4 or 5 moby digests over the last few days. good to see, good to
see...
That is definately a positive thing.. I recieve the digest as well.. now I
get one every day
or so.. used to get them every few days. The content of them has of late
become more
amusing as well... keep it up everyone!!!
>*Just a side note: what's Canadian TV like? What percent of the shows are
American?
I don't watch teevee too much anymore cuz there aren't too many interesting
original
shows on.. but I'd have to say that a large percent of our shows are
american or other in
origin, for instance Simpsons, Startrek, american movies and so on.. A
problem here is
that canadian tv shows simply don't get the same amount of funding, and
often don't
attract enough viewers to keep on the air, although Due South is an
exception to that
rule!!! My local station "the regional" is very cheesy... it reminds me of
SCTV- if anyone
remembers that show. The big news one day was about dental hygienists
going around
and giving kids checkups in schools... wow!!!
Okay, enough of my babble! Just out of curiousity, what model of
turntables do those
of you that have them use?

From your last couple of mails I get the impression that you have something
against MTV. Not knowing how the North American version of MTV compares to
MTV Europe it's difficult for me to gauge your opinion. However, the MTV
Europe shows "Alternative Nation", "Party Zone" and "Chillout Zone" have
probably introduced me to more Ambient/Electronic/Alternative artists than
by just reading music mags etc.
Just my thoughts,
