I've got 'Original Fire' (bought it because of "Helter Skelter
'97") and it's really good. Definitely different from anything I've ever
heard before. That Orb remix is great. A bit long, though.
Best Buy also had the Honey single and remixes for $5.99 each,
while Sam Goody has the single for $6.99.

I listen to very little "electronic music". I mostly listen to Brit.
Pop/Rock (Manic street preachers, Depeche Mode (kind of electronic),
Radiohead, Oasis, Pulp etc...) and Rap (Tupac, Ice Cube, Spice 1, Too
Short etc...) and then some rock (REM, BNL, Fishbone etc...)as for
electronic I usually just listen to Moby, BT, and older stuff, Altern8,
Older Prodigy, etc... not a big fan of the newer stuff.

OH OH OH OH! Right here!
I'm really into punk. NOFX kicks ass. I love those guys. Warped Tour
kicked ass this year.
as i said in an earlier post, 80's music is pretty cool to me, but then
that's sorta electronic.
Right this very second I'm listening to Marilyn Manson's new album. I
think he's pretty
cool, but I really dislike the whole Mansonite poser scene around where I
live. Ick.
Oh yeah. I REALLY like Rage Against the Machine, whatever that counts as.
And anyone
who's even *slightly* into hip hop MUST check out BTK. Local Toronto boys,
but they're soooo
good!
> - --Does anyone, besides me, feel it's a waste of time to argue about

But its so much fun! :) Seriously, its a waste of time, but I do it a lot
anyway. But if
I find I'm doing it too much I'll just remove myself from the situation and
just write
everything off. That works for dealing with psycho stalker people (a story
for another
day) but isn't that sorta what this list is about? Exchanging opinions?
Okay fine,
maybe we're taking it too far. I won't comment on the situation anymore.
I think.

I personally don't like it cause its over used and it's such a buzz word.
It's like a bunch of 8
year olds running around trying to use the new word they just learned as
much as possible.
Plus, it doesn't mean anything (to me at least). If someone says "that's
electronica" I wouldn't
have any idea what they were talking about. Sure, I'd know that it would
be music that was
electronic and probably with a very generic beat, but that's just what I
think when I hear that
evil word. Electronica can mean anything from Underworld to KMFDM's new
album, depending
on who you talk to.
Personally, I'd rather a more descriptive word used to describe a
style of music (freestyle, house, electro-industrial, drum n bass...
ANYTHING!) instead of
such a broad and misused term. But if you're using the word in a general,
umbrella sense
I guess its okay. Now I'm rambling... blah. I'm going to go and try and
find an old post on
alt.music.techno or alt.rave to find the actual definition of electronica
(and techno and drum
and bass and jungle) so maybe we can set this matter straight. Or not.

Howdy again everyone,
I am working on artwork for thanks2, but donnot have a scanner and
therefore cannot send it to you via email (it is not done on computer
either). I was wondering if anyone would volunteer to scan it for me? If
you could pleeze give me your address it would be greatly appreciated!!!
If not, I don't mind, as I can always tie a ribbon to it and hang it off my
christmas tree/wreath/channuka bush!!!
>What do you girls on the list think of Moby's shaved head(I'm assuming
>it's still shaved?)? Do you find it attractive, ugly, or you just don't
>care? Cum on, let me know!
Well, personaly I think a shaved head is quite practical... no split ends,
inexpensive to cut, easily washable - won't take a long time to dry! As
far as the attraction factor goes, I find moby attractive for what he does,
not his shaved head... but at least he has a nicely shaped head (as far as
I know). I am afraid that if I shaved my head I would find out that my
head had an ugly shape or something, but then it would be amusing to see
what kind of solutions there were for that!
>Now, I have a question for "the list" (anybody that would be so kind as to

>--Does anyone, besides me, listen to anything other than electronic music?
- -yep, I listen to all kinds of stuff, I find it hard to classify as to what
some
of it actually is.. although half the time i can't remember the name of
the song i just heard.... I don't prejudge a song by what genre it is
considered... Although there is definately some music I dislike... I am
about to lock my dad in the basement cuz he listens to the same
Alabama song day after day after day... ... after day, after day!!
So I guess I might be predjudiced against Alabama songs...
(sorry if i offend any Alabama fans!) *smile*
>--Does anyone, besides me, cringe at pretentiousness in all it's ugly
forms?
That would depend on the degree of pretentiousness, and who it was
aimed at
>--Does anyone, besides me, feel it's a waste of time to argue about "who's
>right"?
Depends on the subject matter... if the argument is one such as "homeless
people are on the streets cuz they are to lazy to work" I do not think it
would
be a waste of time to argue (and I'd argue against this matter). However,
if
the subject matter was "who left that kleenex there?!" it would be a waste
of
time (in my opinion).

Of course, Trent's gone through so many different changes. He's
had his hair braided, with dreadlocks, and so forth. I used to be really
into NIN, but not much anymore. I had PHM, Broken, Fixed, MOTP (both
parts), TDS, FDTS (regular and an imported version, which I sold, but
kept the patch that came with it :-), and the NBK soundtrack (which
wasn't my cup of tea by any means.)
I'm rambling, so spank me.

I think I read someplace that he thinks he has an accountant's hair line or
something. Whatever that means. I remember when I saw the video for
Go for the first time I had to laugh cause he does look sorta goofy with
hair. But that's just my opinion.

*drool* Moby has a purdy head :)~
Seriously, I think it suits him. As I said above, he looks funny with
hair, to me.
But then, I tend to like guys with shaved heads. For the longest time I
had a thing
for Charlie Paulson (guitar player from Goldfinger who has a clean shaven
head and
wears a dog collar sometimes). Richie Hawtin is pretty hot too (btw
there's a write
up on him in the Toronto Star today (monday) its avalible online at:
http://www2.thestar.com/thestar/editorial/entertainment/981116ENT01b_EN-PLAS
TIK16.html
if anyone cares. Its pretty cool.)
Anyway, shaved heads are pretty cool. I like them(including moby's) but
then that's just me.
You're reading a post from a girl who
thinks Pinhead (yes, the Hellraiser guy) is gosh darn it! A pretty damn
sexy man! or
demon. or bad guy. Whatever. Pinhead's cool. On a side note, I'm
seriously considering
shaving MY head (yes, i know i'm a gurl and gurls don't do this too often)
because I
don't know what to do with my hair. I WAS going to dye it black but the
appeal isn't
there anymore. And I'm too impatient to let it grow for a few more months
to get the
dreads I've been dreaming of for years now.
Blah. Off topic. Moby's head is very nice looking.
And that's my two cents.

are these bands just on the charts cuz there actually good, or cuz the

couldnt imagine. theyd probably make the music a lot darker, no more

This is interesting. In Music theory, traditional music, even up to the
advent of rock n' roll in the 50s and early 60s can easily be categorized
depending on the chord and harmonic structure, beat structure and what not.
Even periods are easily distinquished through music history, Baroque,
Romantic etc. Perhaps enough time has to pass for historians to properly
categorize musical and stylistic movements. I don't think the word has any
relevance today, but perhaps in the many years to come, music theory will
adopt it as a term denoting certain characteristics that will by then be
easily defined. No?

Electronica.
People hate this word because suits use it as a buzzword to promote the next
big thing, and suits are well known for abusing everybody in their path in
the name of profits. I could write an essay on the evils of mass marketed
music, but that would be a waste of time, you all understand, and hey, why
preach to the choir?
It's also sometimes used to help people get an idea what they are buying.
Categories are a double edged sword, they are both helpful and harmful. They
help listeners buy what they like, they help the corporations market music
to the mindless many.
I think this why we see such of difference of opinion on this subject.
Certain people's distaste for this word stems from a distaste for the whole
MTV/Radio music abuse for money strategy that 'they' use. Those who are
indifferent recognize the positive use of the word.
Moby rules.

Electronica for all we know could be some band or

it doesnt have any musical meaning in the word..
but electronic music.. hmmmm gee whats that mean!?
yeah its a broad category, oh but its soo much better
than having to go ohhh this is trip-snip-californian-hip-hop!
tho i do agree it is useful in some ways (not electronica)
the subcategories..
but for me if its got a keyboard or cool synth sound its
electronic! fooey..
