Well Paul, I couldn't give a toss about this whole tribute
thing anyway. If people want to have a good time making up
a tribute album, then that's great for them and anyone else
who's interested and I'm all for giving support.
Personally, I won't be buying any of these 'tributes'and
the whole issue isn't of any major concern to me.

I totally agree. I was on the list when the first CD was made, but it was my
first week as a member and didn't even know what it was. I have never heard
any of the music, and don't know if it is even worth listening too. However, I
have heard people raving about the album and I decided that I would somehow
find 5 american dollars in Japan and get it. I checked my mail when I got home
from school on Wed. The problem is that for you guys it was Wed at 5 in the
morning. At least those of you on the east coast of America. I guess the email
was sent out on your Tuesday. But indeed I was too late. I was soo late that I
even sent an email requesting it only to find out 15 emails later that I was
over 5 people late. I relize that it is only worth as much money as the CD it
was recorded on. Less even, since you can't rerecord on it. But I would hav
been able to see what kind of talent there is on th list and then actually
have a song to go with the names.
What bafles me though, is why only 20 CDs were made. This has been in planning
for over a month and only 20 CDs could be completed. I burned a 73 minute CD
on a 2x and it took half an hour. I assume that whatever was used took less
time than that. But, in defense of the CD and the people who are controlling
it, it is theirs. They can do what they want right? Yeah, if everyone who
submitted their work agreed on only printing 20. Was there no one who wanted
more or anyone who wanted none at all. I guess I had to trade being in Japan
for 6 months for my second chance at a used CD-R. I wonder if it was worth it?
Now I wonder if it would have been even worth it it to wander the banks
looking for a 5 dollar bill. At least the CD was only 5 bucks including
shipping, and they didn't have to re do them, but they were nice enough to do
it. Why it had to turn from something nice and reasonable to something dick
and incomprehensible is beyond me. Anyway, Later.

i orderd 1.1 and do hope i get my song to be worthy to the title 4 2 on time
:(if it happens).
my opinion...
i do think it would have been wise to get more info on how many wanted the
disk b4 the decision was made.
i think when he made the disk the first time he made & set a limit for
imaginable reasons. it was probably reasonable a limit at the time as
thanks II seems reasonable for now. i wonder how many times he stepped
passed it? probably just once (that i know of). but i aint been here thaat
long. i thought 20 more disks sounded about right when i heard about the
re-release. it makes me wonder how many people are on the list. his idea
seemed to have been aimed to please.
i think too much
to us or at least me-it's all about the music. i'm sure it'll get around
too.
i ain't nobody's dog or nothin'. just tryin to look at the not so grand
scheme of things as i tend to do.

Hello all,
it's been asked a few times so I thought I'd respond for once........
"how many members are there on Mobility?"
We normally average 200 members & we're currently just over that amount.
Also, silly me forgot to wish the list a Happy 2nd Birthday.
Mobility turned 2 years old on October 24.
So anyway...... Happy Belated Birthday Mobility!!!

I completely agree here...I get the digest version (I know, you snooze, you
lose, etc...) and I found out about this, then read on and found out that
the offer ended before some people even found out about it! The saddest
thing is that I've been reading here about how great Thanks 1 is from those
who were on the list before. Perhaps next time y'all could find out how
many people want the cd before arbitrarily saying only 20 can have it and
the rest are SOL.
Random musings.....

I'm very happy I replied in time but I agree with every single comment you
made except the one about not wanting to be involved, Paul. If we work
together we can make this project something everybody can appreciate if they
want to, regardless of how past projects were handled.
Hey Gingerbread, I think it's time you spoke up and explained a few things.
Thanks 1 was a GROUP effort, and while I'm sure everyone appreciates the
effort you put into the project, personally I don't think it's fair for you
ALONE to make decisions regarding it. These decisions are rubbing many
(including me) the wrong way and tainting the wonderful atmosphere of this
list. I know MANY people agree with me here. So what's up? I apologize if
these aren't your decisions and I'm criticizing unfairly, but from what I've
been able to ascertain you've been head honcho.
Normally I would keep potentially confrontational messages off the list. But
this involves everybody. No apologies necessary, Paul.

Hi all....I was just wondering if anyone in the Syracuse/Central New York
area has heard anything about Moby doing a show around here. My friend
called me last night saying that she heard it on the radio...she didn't
here where or when, real helpful right? she knows I'm a big fan and it was
the name that caught her attention...she pretty much missed everything
else. I've been trying to call K-rock...but with no luck...Does anybody
no anything about this?

Sure, the ETYTM single (US) has the UK and US winners, and an obscure 12"
has runner-ups. I haven't heard those but I remember hearing that the
Tabernacle remix is excellent. (Brad, was that you commenting on these?)
>>also, i found a used copy of aphex's SAW 85-92 at exile for $15.
Ouch. I got mine new for 16 or 17. Gramaphone in Chicago has them.
Regarding the AR essays, I know they're online somewhere. Check out some of
the AR reviews, they might be on one of those. Unfortunately they were on a
site with other stuff so they didn't get explicit mention and I'm not sure
exactly where they are. Good luck. Perhaps somebody will scan them for you.
Or hit the used CD store [AR is usually there :( ] and take some notes.

Subject: (mobility) An Explanation
I have not been the only one making decisions on this re-release. I do not
wish to say who else has been helping in these decisions so that they will
not have to try and explain things as well.
The idea behind Thanks was simple: list members make a cd of covers and
remixes of Moby songs. The entire cd was made for and by list members. No
limit was set on how many cds were made in the first release. I produced
and mailed as many as was needed. I _did_ make a deadline for orders, but
that was only so I could concentrate on my schoolwork and because I was not
going to be doing the production infinitely. There were many people who
were disappointed then because they could not get a copy. I knew this
would happen, and felt bad, but I knew there was really no way around it
seeing that new members would join daily -- each wanting their own copy of
Thanks.
A year after the original inception of Thanks, the suggestion and plans for
Thanks2 came up on the list. Once again, a call for a re-release of Thanks
was heard throughout the list. I was not going to be able to do this on my
own this time because of many reasons (of which I will not go into now).
Ryu decided to step up to the plate and give it a shot. He and I had
discussed many things about the re-release and came up with what we thought
would work.
The intent of these cds was not to give either me or whoever else might be
producing these cds an "elitist" status. It was to have fun making music
and letting other people hear it. I do not wish to start a flame war or
create dissention among lit members, but I do not see why those of you who
are complaining about not getting a cd feel it is your RIGHT (rather than
privelege) to have these cds.
I can see your points, many are very good and well founded, but as I know
from experience, an individual can only do so much. There has to be a
limit drawn somewhere. Someone might say, "A limit at only 20?!" Well, if
that is what has been deemed to be the number of cds that can be handled,
then that is the number. Someone might say, "Give me the master cd and I
will take over!" This may be fine, but in order to ensure that all the cds
are the same (covers included) and of the same quality, it is much easier
to leave the production and distribution to one person.
We must all remember that Ryu is also producing Thanks2 along with
Thanks1.1. Work needs to be done for both cds. I know that he has been
very busy as of late, so he cannot dedicate the amount of time he would
like to everyday.
Once again, I do not wish to make anyone angry at anyone else or create a
divide in the list. Take my comments as you will, and try to see the other
side of the coin. See you on the list.
