yep. Just picked up a Kruder and Dorfmeister CD called "Conversions" today
and I got the new CD by Pierce Pettis today as well (although completely
stylistically different from Moby, it's still good stuff)

Minneapolis, which isn't that small of a metropolitan area (3Million?) I
got Bond off of CDNow though...(That store is SO useful) MixMag I just saw
at a local music store.

My philosophy is to pick up the single with the most mixes on it and not
worry about all the other various singles. I do think that I need to pick
up the UK version of Animal Rights though, so that I can get the 2nd CD.

not at the moment, when I get done re-coding the rest of the companies site
I'm going to leap in and set Raw Tuna up on the web. In the meantime check
out Brad's mag Ricochet or drop me an E-mail and I'll mail you out a copy
snail-mail wise. That goes for anyone else too.

Wow, that's a long tape! Where is the Intro mix of Next from? Is it just
another name change? (ex.:I Feel It, Club Mix) Lots of goodies on there,
I'm sure that I would include Patient Love as well, it's my favorite on
End Of Everything. I'd prolly put Stream, too. Maybe Everything,
although it would fit w/ your stuff, my idea of quiet tends to go along
with mood or introspection. I'd put stuff like God Moving, Stream,
Shining, First Cool Hive, Novio, Pateint Love, Alone, Rain Falls,
Mobility (aqua), Help Me To Beleive, and various stuff from Little Idiot
and Voodoo Child. (probably Underwater too if I had it) You probably
won't get criticism becuase we all like Moby here, it's just a matter of
prefs.

Subject: (mobility) Disk review
It's fun when you're following links for something else..And..."out of the
blue" ;> you find something Moby related...I found a review of Disk on
C-Net <http://www.cnet.com/Content/Reviews/Enhanced/Reviews/mobydisk.html>:
Disk opens with the artist himself exhorting you to get in
the techno groove by clicking rhythmically on everything
that moves. By the time you're through this disc, your
clicking finger--and your brain--will need to unwind in a
sensory-deprivation chamber. Nonetheless, this title
provides what every ECD should: the feeling that no matter
how much time you devote to exploring different screens
and features, you'll never find all the elements. Little icons
zoom around the screens in an incredibly elusive manner.
The frenzied atmosphere and the lack of specific locations
may eventually have you yearning to escape to the relative
manageability of real life. Interviews with Moby cover such
deep topics as the difficulty of stroking models on video
shoots. You can also read hypocritical essays on the evils
of modern life--all this from a techno artist whose musical
timeline includes the date when Ecstasy was first
synthesized.
- --John Butler(johnb@cnet.com)
Now..just because I included the review doesn't mean you shouldn't go to
C-Net yourselves..They also include a 20 second snip of the Hymm video(it
starts about a few seconds from the beginning)..and also has one of the
interview answers(also has an .ra sample..but it's outdated and the link
doesn't work)
Before my review of the "review" I have a question..A while back I gave my
review of Disk..I said I wasn't able to view the multimedia part since I
don't have the right file (sci1hlp.vxd version 4.00.950)..I had asked if
anyone does have this file..I haven't got any responses..I figure someone
has it since some ppl have been able to access the disk..If anyone can
help..I'd REALLY appreciate it :).
Now..about the review...The only real problem I have with it is when John
said, "You can also read hypocritical essays on the evils of modern
life"...Now yes..Moby is hypocritical..but maybe he should have mentioned
that Moby realizes it(which is more than some ppl do). Moby has said in
many articles that he realizes that it's hypocritical of him to speak on on
the environment...then go out and make a cd..and tour on behalf of it.
Other than that..it seems like a great review.

Yesterday evening I just happened to be browsing through a
fairly mainstream music shop, in the nearest large town
near where I live, and lo and behold I discover an import
Moby CD at only 10.79 pounds sterling! I've never seen it
or heard of it before - has anybody on this list? It's
entitled Moby Grape.Wow or GrapeMoby.Wow or something
bizarre like that, with loads of what looks like Japanese
writing. The cover art is sort of oriental with butterflies
and cherubs and things.....

regarding the "moby import"... i know there is a group called 'Moby Grape' here
in the US. I am not sure of what kind of music it is, but i think it may be
hip-hop or rap. i am guessing that the cd you found is not our beloved Moby,
but rather 'Moby Grape'.

According to the HMV computers there are 2 uk versions. The only
information listed is that they were released on the 20th (I think) and that
there's a part 1 & part 2. Of course, the data entry folk are notorious for
adding in information later...

Subject: (mobility) stuff
okay...i was searching my moms library the other day,and on the
computer where it lists magazine articles i found a listing of an
article in interview magazinefrom december 1989 (v19 n12 p32) about DJ
Moby D. he's a rap artist. thats all i know about him. so if you can
find old issues of interview, check that out.
i was listening to thousand thru headphones (i love doing that and
turning my brain into mush ;) and i noticed something weird. at the
way way end of the song, like the last half second, after the voice
slows way way down, and gets soft, for the last half secodn it speeds
way way up. weird. andd also, like if you listen thru hedphones, like
after the beats stop both times, it sounds really messed up, like
really dirty, cuz like you can hear all these loops....um ok that
doesnt make much sense but listen thru hedphones and you might see
what i mean.
btw, i checked out jimi hendrix:woodstock from the library. this of
course is where moby sampled "called voodoo child" for his self titled
voodoo child single. this album kicks ass. it is definitely without a
doubt the best live album ever. next time you see this somewhere buy
it, its amazing. and not just because moby samples it. hendriz was
like the man.
also, at the library, they have issues of billboard way back to 1993,
and i was looking at the dance charts from early 93 and n.i.t.e. is on
there. so is mbm's "mindstream" and orbital's "halcyon". cool.
and i was listening to my fave station WPKN the other day, and they
were playing a hole bunch of juno reactor stuff from the "bible of
dreams" cd (also awesome)and they played this song "high energy
protons" or something, and it uses the same vocal sample that moby
uses in "this is my dream". i mean, the choir samples in the
background. like the "aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh's. well if you hear that
song youll see what i mean.
okay bye....tomorrows the deadline for your top 3s, so get them in
soon! like now! my birthdays tomorrow! bye!

Mobyholics,
I haven't really bought too many new CD's this year, but my top
3 this year would have to be these:
1. 'Saturnz Return'-Goldie......This CD is amazing, both discs. I didn't
know what to expect from it, but it's turned me totally on to his music
even more. Truly one of the most underrated discs of the year. I can't
believe it got bashed so much. The first song, "Mother", is great, and
didn't get old at all listening to it.
2. 'Fading Into An Undone Thursday'-Jeff Newman......A local
singer/songwriter, and good friend of mine. He's really good with what
he does, and shows a lot of emotion in his songs.
3. 'Urbal Beats 2'......Although I didn't buy this, a friend of mine has
it and is even better than the first one.
One last note, I can't wait for the new Chem Bros. album to be released.
August 25th, I believe.
As always,

Animal Rights (on tape somewhere)
I first heard moby when a friend of mine played EIW for me about four
years ago...i loved the fact that the album was so eclectic. That to me
was evidence of an open mind in a musician.
other artists i dig: the aphex twin, u-ziq, panacea, various local DJ's,
Spring Heel Jack, Beastie Boys, 2 Skinnee J's, erasure, Bad Religion,
the occasional Orbital track, Too Much Joy, Beck, various classical
composers, Vangelis (yes it's cheese, but...), A tribe called quest,
NOFX...the list goes on and on. I'm an avid music lover, though i wish
i had more money to be more of an avid music collector. As you can see,
my tastes vary quite a bit, though my favourite stuff right now is on
the techno/d n' b/hip hop side.
Any other interesting info: All I can be is myself.
Thanks for reading.

Hey, Nathalie! It seems we like a lot of the same artists. I
didn't know there was anyone else who likes Moby *and* Vangelis,
Spring Heel Jack, Aphex Twin, various classical things, and the
Beastie Boys (who I've been listening to a bit lately). Well, there
are a few artists you listed that I don't know anything about, but I
just thought that was a neat similarity. And we're both 21. :) I
also like the Orb, Squarepusher, Josh Wink, Fatboy Slim, and stuff
by Underworld, Depeche Mode, and InSoc, to name a few. Anyways,
welcome to Mobility. :)

Today I was doing some music shopping at a local used cd store and found
a few moby cds (EIW, AR and EU). I was disapointed to find them (moby's
music is much to good to be sold to a used cd store). But anyway...I
then went to a Chain store that sells music (among other things) and I
did find the Next is the E single (finally). I have been looking for it
for a while. It was the only copy, and I don't have a clue where they
came from. I know that a while back the list was questioning whether
Instict was re-relasing singles. Does anyone know if this is true? I
also saw the mixmag album there, but I did not have enough money to get
it. Hopefully it will be there next week. Oddly enough i've seen more
moby at chain stores than the smaller record stores who usually care
lots of the various kinds of "techno".
this is not moby related...but would a person who had the info on the
Cloud 2 Ground group get back to me. I've not seen that cd on the music
store computers, and I was wondering where to get it.
