Hi,
New to the list, so I thought I should probably introduce myself.
My name is Brian and I'm a confessed music-a-holic <tm AA>
I've been into Moby for a couple of years now, and have amassed a few
singles, but nothing major. Here's my collection
Everything is Wrong (US Release)
EIW DJ mix Album
Rare
I Like to Score
Dog Heaven Single
End of Everything
Everytime You Touch Me
Moby
All that I Need is to be Loved
Feeling so Real
MixMag Moby/Sean Vath
Animal Rights (US)
James Bond (Aus)
then on Vinyl
Bring Back my Happiness
and
That's when I reach for My Revolver.
So I don't have a lot, but I've got the start of a collection.
I listen to quite a bit of dance music, but I do a lot of DJing at a local
community radio station, and I write for a upper-midwestern music mag
called "Raw Tuna" so my music tastes are pretty eclectic.

Ah you need no introduction to me. Good to see you pop up here after a fun
few days at CStone. How did *your* VoL bootleg turn out?

Good start. If I'd have known you were such a Moby fan, we'd have grabbed
Darryl Cottier and Ade and had a little Moby party at the fest.

I don't remember if anyone else noticed this before, but I was too lazy to
search through the archives.
I was sitting at home 2:30 on Sat. night, bored, but not wanting to go to
bed yet. So I flip on the TV and watch a PBS show about airports. (For
the non-Americans who may not know, PBS is a U.S. television station). If
you've ever watched PBS you know that in between shows they have short
clips about future shows or station identification. One of those
identification clips showed the PBS logo, a photograph of a man hiking or
something, and a quote by Robert Louis Stevenson. As it was on the screen,
there was some background music playing and I noticed that it sounded very
familiar. It was about 5 seconds or so of "First Cool Hive." It was a
pretty interesting surprise.
(That was a lot of detail about a minor event, but anyway....)

Welcome to the list Brian..Nice to have you here..And most of us are
music-a-holics(as you put it)..That's why were on mailing lists..so we can
find out when new singles(like Honey..Aug. 17th) are coming out..musical
discussions...want/sale lists...etc.

I don't know..I'd say those two are pretty major..Depending on where you're
located..those can't be easy to find..or cheeply to obtain.

True..but as I've said before..and I'll say it again..We've all started out
with just a few Moby albums/singles/remixes/etc..It'll grow..give it time

So I figure I better welcome my own brother to the list..Are we the first
brother combo on the list? Anyways..It was really bizzare..Went over to
visit mom's one day..Was in lil bro's room playing cd's for my older
bro..He wanted a mixtape of electronic artists for his little road
trip...So I played some stuff to see if he'd like it(Underworld's
"Dubnobass..." and MBM's "Subliminal Sandwich")..So while we're sitting
there..Evan's stack of cd's is right there..and I see BBMH right there..I
think to myself, "Did I lend him this cd?(seeing how I lend him cd's from
time to time..right now he has JBT)" Turns out he's gotten into Moby..very
cool :).

The single is Aug. 17 (US or UK... both? anyone? my guess is UK only)
Tim heard it on the radio, so we know promo copies are now out in the
UK. Moby doesn't have a contract w/ a record co. here is the US of A.

Subject: (mobility) Family thing, My vinyl
Ryan & Evan:
This family thing is cool.
I've tried to get my whole family into my music, but I haven't had any
success. My little brother likes g-raps, my younger siter likes my music
but she is firmly 3 yrs behind me, so... maybe in another year she'll
catch on. She also likes stuff w/ a gothic slant to it. My older sister
listens to country& lite stations. My parents... are daft. (no punk)
I got some Moby vinyl thru the mail the other day. The Up River mix of
Hymn reminds me a lot of his Up River mix of Fractal Zoom, I love how
Moby has multiple mix personality disorder. (upriver, electro,
barracuda, voodoochild, lopez, etc. etc.) The Dirty Hypo, was good as
well, but my favorites are still the ones from the This Is My Dream CD.
esp. TIMD & Euro Edit. I got Next Is The E, which the vinyl version
lacks the Victory mix, I think it was. Also got Move, promo I beleive.
It came in a black sleeve w/ "Promotional Copy Not For Sale" on it in
gold stamp, but it may be a dif sleeve, as these I got 2nd hand.
Now I need some advice here. Is it worth it for me to pay 13$ each for
UHF, Barracuda, Mobility, & Brainstorm? Am I getting ripped off? Am I
getting a steal? Well, that's what I agreed on but I'd like to know
anyway. I'm also getting Self-Titled on vinyl (is this 2x12"?) and
another copy of Next, and a Go 12". $100 for all inc. shipping. Good or
Bad?
It'll be fun to play both Next records at the same time on "Thousand"
and fuck it all up.

WOW! welcome to the list guys! always good to see new members. a
brother duo, huh? hmm... this should be interesting. if my brother
joined this list, i'd probably freak. but, this is cool... maybe there
can be some sibling spats or something. :) and Brian, you've got a great
collection started.. in fact, i'm jealous! i only had EIW and AR to
start off with. and you have vinyl! arg! vinyl rules.. i will always
love vinyl.
sorry i haven't been posting much.. i've been working. plus, well...
there really isn't much going on. and that PBS thing was interesting to
hear.. i like reading when certain tv stations will play Moby. i was
shocked to hear it on ABC's 20/20. it's great that they like his mellow
stuff... it would be more shocked if they played any of the harder stuff,
though.... maybe i can try to convince some ABC station to do it
someday.. i'm suppose to go and visit my future aunt (she's engaged to my
uncle.. don't know any other term for her), and she works in an ABC
station in NY (dunno if it's the big one).. maybe i'll bring some
Moby....
anyways... i think i'll end this. can't wait for "Honey" to come out.
now i wish my radio would work in my car so i can see if i hear it... the
person who owned the car before me left the detachable face in it and
someone broke in and stole it. kinda idiotic, huh? now i have to wait
until i get enough $ for all the expenses that i have to do and then i
can replace the face. so.. now i drive in silence with Moby playing in
my head...

OK... to ship things over seas can be easy. we sent a package to Germany
as a letter (we put it in a padded envelope) and it only cost $3, plus it
didn't take that long to get there. when we send big packages, it takes
about 2-3 months without any express payments or anything. so, CD's
really shouldn't be a problem... just put them in a padded envelope (they
should be safe) and send them as letters.. it's cheaper and faster.
that's how i see it, anyway.

I sorta figured this question would come up, I was surprised to find
some of the older 12" that Moby put out under pseudonyms. As for CDs,
none of those mentioned were. They were all records. I didn't find them,
someone else did, but they find out that I was looking for them at
Watts.
www.wattsmusic.com/musicnow/vinylbbs/
www.virtualvinyl.ndirect.co.uk
Under the DJ/vinyl junkies section there is a bulletin board for record
trades. I just threw up a I WANT MOBY & I WANT WINK and I've been well
rewarded. Also Virtual Vinyl. Although the message on the board says
they've updated I couldn't get their site just now when I tried. It'll
be back, though. They have Go & another record or two by Moby. Happy
hunting!
As for CDs, you know as much as me: local stores, on-line stores... I
haven't found a CD trading board yet but from what I understand
Whitezone at chicken.org has a mailing list for this. I couldn't find
the subscribe page, though. (Paul, was it you who posted the afx
subscribe instrux? Could you post the Whitezone info?)

Here, I did the work for you. (whoever you may turn out to be) :)
http://www.virtualvinyl.ndirect.co.uk
They have the following that I saw: (all in 12")
Moby:
I Feel It (Next is the E UK release)
Go (no, I don't know which one)
Hymn
Move
Other w/ Moby:
Jam & Spoon - Stella (electro & barracuda mixes by Moby)
Voodoo Child - Voodoo Child
UHF (UHF, Peace Head, Protect Write, Everything) {Moby pseudonym}
The UHF record cost 10 pounds which translates as something close to 13
US dollars, so I think I paid a fair price. I still value any and all
input anyone may have on the prices I mentioned previously.
My plate is full, but I'm thinking about that VC record....
