I'm going to sound like a quote from "Clerks," one of my favorite movies,
when I say:
"37!"
That's how may Moby cd's I have. It's not the highest number, but it is a
pretty respectable figure, I think. If you take out compilations and
soundtracks, though, the number falls to 35. But since I wanted to use the
Clerks quote, I counted them.

just thought i'd comment- both of you have valid points about artistic =
freedom and promoting and stuff- personally i'm fine with him switching =
labels as long as he can still make the music he wants to make and is not=
forced to do anything that he doesn't, or wouldn't normally do on anothe=

elf and with minimal promotion moby can and has gone a long way- what eve=

just wanted to let y'all know, i was talking about how i thought james
bond theme should've been a hit, to my mom today, and i let her listen
to ILTS. she thought the james bond theme was really good and she
agreed that it shouldve been a hit. She did think some songs on the
album, like grace, were a little pointless though.
check out my new extra depressed sig (they were the only 2 quotes i
could think of while answering mail today...)

i can make moby shirts....i took an art class that for just a little
side project thing we made screenprints, so i made one of moby's new
logo- y'know the circle thing? and for the back (or the front?) i wrote
out "evil ninja moby"- it comes out nice, and i love when people look at
the little circle thing and it twists all up and they look
like-????..... the little enigma moby....hmmm, anyway...if you or anyone
else for that matter wants one i'll be happy to help you out....-kc

i went- and he did complain about the lighting- but overall his energy
was great....ok,i'll go into my little moby story......
all night i look @ the little papers posted saying times 4 when people
are going to play....
so i see moby, 12:30, or something, i don't remember...
i rush over to the stage thingy and push my way
- -more like just, exuse-me my way-
over to the front of the stage...no scary security bars or people so
i was right @ the stage, and i wasen't crushed, like
the prodigy concert i was @ a while back...
i could aptly move, and move i did...
i got exellant pics...better than i've seen in mags for that show,
one of him mid-air, jumping off his keyboard, singing, etc...
anyway,so someone gives him a bottled water with a note taped on it,he
says thanks etc,etc...
so near the end(?) of the show (i'm parched, almost dying)
he takes a drink, and goes to set it down, and
(i must have looked thirsty!)
he gives me the water (with a smile)...i was so ecstatic, not even cuz
moby gave it to me-
just that i was getting hydrated....
so, at the very end of the show-agian i was gasping,
he gave it to me again, and walked off stage....
he must have forgotton the note...so the drummer guy (i think?)
comes over to pick up stuff i guess
and i give him the water and tell him to give it to moby...and he gives
me the set list...so although Big Top wasen't wonderful
i walked away with beautiful pics of moby, his setlist, and a bissful
moby music listening experience...el fin
there was my story- thanks, kids, for listening-kc

i don't know if you've heard about this but i discovred on cd now a cd
called offbeat a red hot sound trip, and the last song on it track 26
was by our dear beloved moby. they gave r.a. samples of all the trax
on the cd. moby's piece (not song), called republican party, was
awful...all it was was a bunch of guys laughing and what sounded like
a goat crying. it sucked! i also listened to a song by dj spooky on
the cd (which also sucked) and an "audio collage" by Meat beat
manifesto (which was actually quite good...)
just a little drop of the needle...er, laser...
bye the way, i sacrificed my lunch period today to go to the school
library...i did some research, and i found out that in 1994, mtv
played aphex twin's "on" video on their late-sunday-nite alternative
rock show, 120 minutes, because there was no where else on the channel
it would fit (of course, it didn't fit there neither...)
just in case you all wanted to know...(which u probably didn't)

WOW....... PAUL..... that sounds like a let down
which i do feel points to one major reason that our featured subject
will not attain the mass pepsi/coke award
besides he has made it a point to be very very political
and judgmental
which is cool but not going to win you
everybody as a fan>>>>>>>
but that is the inconsistency of some of the musical output
being offered by moby>>>>>>>>>
i'm not saying he should do what anybody

highly politically confused noisebenders>>>>>>>>>>>>
it's like ice-t putting out cop killer after playing a cop (great role)

i'm not saying yanni (YUK!) is strong enough to be gentle

i've been involved in that.........almost but to a point

Paul (outthere@stitch.com),
I'd like to thank you for misunderstanding and misinterpreting the
things I said so that I could clear it up to others that may be confused
with the things I say.
Yes, my bro knows I rip on him. like he cares... And as far as
stereotyping young people, I pick on my little bro 'cuz I don't have an
older one. Besides, I know tons of old people who have no taste. I
have my own tasteless favourites too.
As far as contradicting myself, I don't think so. I still want Moby to
be low. What I meant when I said it'd be nice to have more Moby fans, I
meant fans that know what he's all about. Like, maybe a hunderd within
this coming year. Not like the whole US liking him because someone
remixed "Everytime You Touch Me" enough to sound like a pop song and be
a top 40 song. Yikes! So, more as in a little more and not like
billions on some funky "bandwagon."
About me being a cop out. Thanks! I asked people to E me privately if
they had any problems with my RELIGIOUS comments. I have led this group
off the topic quite a few times (namely Moby not liking the T movie) and
I didn't want it to happen again. That is why I said that.
Another thing is that I loved the responses I got. It was nice to see
that people managed to keep this one on topic and had some great
responses. As far as being wong. I love it. It's the only way I learn
things. I love being wrong!
See, now this has gone off topic. This is specifically what I was
trying to avoid. Sorry again, ppls! Much love, Alvin

Does your little brother know how much you rip on him?
Well, it's just that you seem to be stereo typing young people
as having no taste in music, and for the most part thats true
but I would like to share the fact that my little brother has
been listening to Moby since he was ten (he's twelve now) as well
as my sixteen year old brother, they both beg me to borrow Moby
CDs and record Moby mix tapes for them...they love him.
They are the ones telling thier friend's about him and so they
think he's cool too...but because of the music not pop culture.
By the way you contradicted yourself from message to message,
first you wish Moby stayed low profile then you say it would
be great if there were more Moby fans...
Asking us to email you privately is kind of a cop out don't you
think, like you knew you had some real arguments coming and
you might be wrong- well I hop ethis didn't sound like a flame,
I respect your opinion and there is nothing wrong with it-
I just wanted to add my two cents and stimulate some more
conversation...

a big shocker happened to me like that. my mom heard some of voodoo child
the end of everything and she LOVED it! now, not to rag on her because i
love my mom, but she basically only listens to one musician (leonard
cohen-who's really good, too.. grew up listening to him and billy joel), so
this really shocked me. she hasn't heard the techno stuff, but she agrees
that moby is a talented artist. my dad has even grooved to some of moby...
and he is mostly stuck on stuff like black sabbath (trying to relive his
teenage yrs. @ times). so, i guess my parents aren't all that bad..

hey john.. just curious. where did u use to live? i'm familiar w/ three
points in AZ, it's imbetween where i live and tucson. and, i know what it
is like to not have a radio station out here... i live on the tohono o'odham
reservation that has nothing for non-natives. so.... i know ur pain, i
guess.
i feel the same way about this fame stuff. i don't want MTV to get their
grubby hands on moby and play his music over and over again so all those
music fad people can pretend to understand and then hate him when his music
is played too much. i like the fact that people are hearing more of him, i
just don't want him to burn out. moby makes great music... every CD i've
heard has been great, even AR (which i love). i like the fact that his
music is diff't... hearing the same stuff from the same artist gets tiring
after a while. but, in a way i want moby to make it big. i dunno.. i'm
torn. but, it's not my decision to make. i'll continue to like his music
no matter what... even when MTV refuses to even mention moby anymore, i'll
still love his music.

i agree that the comments made before were for the most part right on. i
disagree about the whole 'i doubt any of us became hardcore moby fans
overnight' thing. i was in awe and totally impressed by moby and his music
the very first time i heard it. i saw him on the show 'wavelength' in 91,
went out and bought the move single and have loved him ever since. i can
relate to the whole thing about feeling selfish though. i feel that if moby
were to become 'mainstream' as you call it, people would not truely be
listening to the music. i personally don't care how many or how few people
listen to moby. i could care less. i know the way i feel when i listen to
his music and that's good enough for me. it's when he starts making music
that he thinks others want to hear that i have a problem. i have always
respected moby because he makes the kind of music that he wants too,
regardless of what's "popular". when he made everything is wrong so many
people didn't like it because it wasn't straight techno. when he made
animal rights a lot of people were like- he can't do that- he's supposed to
be a techno artist- he can't make a guitar based album- did moby care? no-
i really respect that and as long as he's making the music for himself and
doing what he wants to do , than i'm cool with him.
about the whole 'farm kid thing'. i disagree. i used to live in a small
retirement community in south western az. there was nothing there, no good
radio stations, no good music stores, nothing. i don't think that forfiting
ones artistic integrity, and/or going 'mainstream' to sell music to a kid on
a farm is very wise or productive. in the town i grew up in they wouldn't
have played moby on the radio even if he were popular- so it would have been
for nothing. that's all for now- later
