i don't even think that moby knows where it's from.
in the interview he did with xaq, that question was asked.
moby said that those chants (as well as the vox in "hymn") were
taken from some records he had bought at a thrift store, and he
doesnt' even remember which ones.
i don't know what it means in english though...anyone know?

Interesting idea. I wouldn't mind hearing that, but I tend to think of them
as three records that all came out at the same time. I much prefer the
balance and symmetry of AR/LI as separate discs. Moby thinks that having it
all on one disc makes the fragile stuff sound more fragile and the abbrasive
rock stuff sound more abbrasive. I think it just waters down the impact and
puts all kinds of speed bumps in the record's flow.
I'm giving away too much info from an interview I'm preparing for Daniel's
www.moby.org, but Moby said animal rights was supposed to encompass many of
man's animalistic tendencies, with all of his primal emotions right out
front without any filters. Voodoo Child, though not directly intended this
way, acts as a kind of counter balance, displaying the more spiritual,
rational portential potential of mankind.
Separately, I think they reflect that dichotomy or symmetry much better than
all on one disc. However, I think putting Little Idiot and the End of
Everything together as a single compilation (more so than the US version of
EOE) might be extrordinarilly successful.

Subject: Re: (mobility) animal rights
I think it's best that Moby released AR/LI and EOE as they are. I have
not heard, in order, the US version of AR or EOE. I am making my
judgements simply on AR/LI and what I hear from most of you.
First of all, I think EOE should be left alone. I think it's completely
different from both AR and LI. It may be close to LI, but I don't think
they should be combined as one.
Did Moby combine LI and AR in the US version? From the last time I saw
it, that's what I think he did. With that, I think I prefer the UK
version better. These two are complete opposites of each other yet they
go well together and are better on separate discs.
In a way they complement each other. If LI was released alone, I don't
think it would do as well and that's probably why Moby blended it in
with AR in the US version. For simplicity's sake I will say that AR is
"hard" and LI is "soft." With them released together, LI shows just how
"hard" AR is and AR shows just how "soft" LI is. So that's why I think
it is better. Again, I have not heard the US version so I don't know
how well he blends AR and LI together. Maybe it works. I'll go check
it out.
I don't think they should all be combined together. I don't see it
being as effective. Another reason is why Moby released EOE under
Voodoo Child. Like LI, it cannot stand alone and I don't think Moby
expected it to do well so he gives credit to his other persona.
Forget it! I'm probably just confusing you all... - Alvin

Sorry to use the list for thsibut does anybody have the US track
listings for AR and EOE and does EIW have any major differences in
running order between the UK / US versions?
Additionally, if you want to know how Hymn might've sounded as a 10

VERY roughly translated from latin, novio means "new." In the religious
sense, it means redemption. For example a recent convert is called a
"noviate." I belive the Novio may also be part of the mass, but I could be
completely wrong. The chant sounds like it may be sampled from a group
called "Sequentia," a group of classical female singers who perform ancient
liturgical works. One of their more recent works, Canticles of Ecstacy,
compile many of the chants of Hildegard Von Bingen, a 12th century abbess.
Again, I could be completely wrong. But this is my best guess.

You could be right. In Spanish, we call it novicio, but I swear it means
also what I first said :) Novo (verb), novus (adjective)
