Bowie remix & the Pumpkins remix Moby did? Didn't I read somewhere he made
a Michael Jackson one too?

Instead of complaining about others being off topic, a better response would
be to ignore the post, deny a reply, if you will, and post something
on-topic to get Moby conversation going. No point in starting a squabble,
you know?

A 2CD compilation by variious artists called "Into The Blue" is being released
over here in the UK. I'm not sure if the Moby track is on it, it's advertised
as "the best collection of modern moody sons" or something dumb like that.

Do you know what label it's on? If it's Mute, it would be strange if there
wasn't any Moby on it, all things considered. How many disks have that
title in the UK now? I have two of the ITB singles, then there more, another
w/ Shining on it, maybe more... The way it was promoted sounds like on of
those only on TV limited time offer compilations.

i haven't heard the bowie remix,
but the smashing pumpkins one is downright awesome!
i think it's the best moby remix i have ever heard.
and he did do a remix for old mikey boy. i think it's on the

I read also that Moby did another remix of 1979, a disco version,
but liked it too much to give away. Can't remember where I saw that, but I
know I saw on the web recently. If anyone is interested
http://www.rollingstone.com <http://www.rollingstone.com> has a
user-rating system. They got listings for many Moby CD's, some w/ cover
graphic, and you can rate the album in question and give 1 - 5 stars. On the
listing it shows the averaged rating from the user input. When you submit a
rating it will show percentages. Pretty neat, check it out. The first thing
that loads is an alphabet bar on top. Punch M for Moby, scroll down, and
choose discography once you go into the Moby page. Have Fun!

Out of all the mixes...Uplifting 4 Beat Mix is my fav...especially on the
Remix album(imho, the transition between FSR(Westbam Mix) and ITB(U4B Mix)
is one of the best on the album(s)..it's sooo smooth and
subtle)...Simple...(All alone...)...Follow Me..then Spiritual Mix..Summer
Wind has an interesting feel to it..Does Moby have a funk side to him? :)

I like Summer Wind also...It has a relaxed, comfortable feel to it.
U4B is the DJ Seduction mix, right? I like that one, too. My friend just
got back from Poland and brought a tape of Seduction's with him, and
although that's not my cup of tea I like a taste every once in a while.
BTW, where does Seduction hail from? Anyone? His music has a rave
feel to it, I can't tell you what category it fits into, as I don't know
what marks a song as house, or drum'n'bass, or jungle. If anyone wants to
list the identifying traits to each variety I'd appreciate it, as it would
help me communicate better. I really don't follow this or that particular
type, I just listen to what strikes me.

I went to see Moby at House Of Blues in Chicago on December 1st,
1997. He played all his dancey stuff prerecorded from a DAT and just kinda
went wild and banged on a drum pad. It was fun to see him, of course, but I
wanted something more. I would have been better if he'd been able to respond
to the crowd musically instead of physically.... He did do that while he was
playing guitar, and his banter was quite entertaining. (He was very
friendly, signed hats and other items, can't remember what exactly) I
noticed he likes to yell "LOVE" quite a lot. He did a really cool jazz
Stairway To Heaven, which you'd need to hear, as imagining it would prove
difficult, I think. Anyway, I was hoping to be blown away, but it was
decently entertaining, not wonderful and mind-boggling.
What are your opinions on Moby's stage act? Please share them with me.

From what I understand he doesn't *like* the idea of cars and pollution but
at the present point in his life he's got to live with it. I think he's
stated that he'd like to get ot a stage in life where he doesn't need to
rely on them at all...

When I was transcribing the lyrics for Animal Rights I noticed that-he's got

There's a few titles from the End of Everything with "love" in the
title, too.
I have Dog Heaven (lopez mix) which I like a lot from Elektra
Maximum Elektronika compilation, and I'll get the Voodoo Child ASAP.

Oh oh..there's another Micronaut out there? I'm pretty sure it's not
Randall seeing how he had a contest to name his new project..and it was held
only a few months ago.

I doubt it's him..but I think his new project is gonna be a good one..Once
again..it's hard to tell from short samples..but I like what I hear :)
>BTW-What did you think of Metropolis? I ask because I absolutely hated
>Burn....
I'm probably the wrong person to ask..since I'm somewhat blind..I've been
listening to Chris since Sins..and I've loved everything he's put out..Each
new album brings something new..Metro has more of the funk feel to it..It's
sorta too bad that he and TVT split..while I'm happy he's finally out of
their clutches..I doubt any singles will come out..and there's some great
tracks that could be made into wicked remixes...Metro has more of a "techno"
feel to it..than an "industrial" one. Has a few synth beats to it.(some ppl
hated this fact cuz they sounded like every other typical techno beat).
Why'd you exactly hate Burn..then maybe I can suggest if you'd like Metro or
not.

sigh. ok now this has been brought up about 8000 bazillion times: this list is
about *MOBY*.. yes how moby feels about titanic, OK,.. but the 25 posts saying
"i liked titanic" "i hate titanic" "i want to do wicked things to the boy in
titanic"... these are *not moby-related*... damian has said many times it's OK
to go off a little but make sure it's moby-related.. you shouldn't flame ryan
just because he's trying to keep this list from going down... sure, he was
being a bit sarcastic but it doesn't have to be like 3rd grade, he wasn't
personally attacking you so you attack him until the teacher pulls you apart..
this has happened before going off on tangents about religion, vegetarianism,
puffy, etc.. and each time it is re-stated that we should keep posts about the
man and his music, since that is the one reason why we all joined.. this
isn't "small talk for people who also happen to like moby".. perhaps some
joined for more, but that's not mobility to my understanding.. true, "It's
just that no one will answer anything they are NOT interested in," but we all
have to *recieve* the posts and clog up our mailboxes.. you could always start
a "moby, etc." list if you want to.. that wasn't meant sarcastically either,
some people have thought of it.. but this is moby-talk...

Decided I'd step in on this for a bit...
Sister Machine Gun was probably one of the first "industrial" bands I
started listening to back in '94. I liked Sins Of The Flesh, loved Torture
Technique and Burn, but was fairly disappointed by Metropolis. The fact of
the matter is that the album sounds WAY too stereotypical of the
industrial-switched-to-breakbeats sound that's all-too-common today. It
seems like industrial is a sinking ship, and almost everyone is trying to
jump off it as fast as they can. Case in point: KMFDM's new album, Trent
trying his hand at faux-jungle, et al...
Although people like Mr. Reznor and Chris Randall try to make the music
sound more emotionally fulfilling than what is being spun on today's
underground and club turntables, one must remember that the elements of this
music were never designed for a straightforward verse-chorus-verse format.
Techno/house/jungle are mapped to incorporate a gradual build-up of many
simple parts to created a complex mix, rather than one part as a chorus,
another for a verse, and the occasional slow bridge. None of these artists
quite grip that concept. Until I hear an industrial album with a method of
verse/chorus/verse that actually works with dance beats (Chemlab's "Burnout
At The Hydrogen Bar" comes close) rather that a shoddy product of fading
musicians trying to cash in on a current trend, I'm going to have to keep
reiterating myself over and over again...
(stepping off soapbox now...)

He was playing "Thousand" while standing on the keyboard. He did a
kind of caterpillar/butterfly thing. He'd start crouched down with his limbs
drawn in and slowly stood up and spread his arms along with the song. I
kinda thought/hoped he was going to jump... I heard some commentary after
the lights when on from some twentysomething academics in the drinking
area.. saying things like he had a god complex and an inflated ego. I
disagree. A friend of mine met him when he did a signing at a club in
Chicago 2 yrs ago around the Animal Rights release time. There was a line
around the block there to see him. Moby was in tears of happiness and
gratitude because he hadn't expected ANYBODY! To turn up. He sign to posters
for him and did one of his trademark caricatures on each.
