I'd have to say Moby's b-side "Dark" is my favorite psuedo-jungle track. The
name fits it perfectly.

I'm wondering why Moby put out such a mellow album as V.C.? all the other V.C.
stuff is sooo hard! Its like the old school part of him. I really would love
to hear more harder techno from Moby soon. By the way, the song in the credits
of Double Tap is very very similar to Dark.

I agree with the X-Files remix thing, but I think he should remix Lush 1,
Halcyon+On+On, or Quality Seconds. Yes, you heard me, Quality Seconds, that
song everyone thinks of as one of those "inbetween two other real songs"
songs.

Lush 1, Halcyon +ON +ON, Belfast, or Kein Trink Wasser are all great Orbital
Songs. Moby did Spead Freak and I did not really like that song. I know this is
a off topic, but can someone please tell me if it is Halcyon or Halycon cause I
have 3 dif albums with is Halcyon and 1 with it Halycon. I don't know what
Halycon is, and I know what Halcyon is, but Halycon sounds cooler. Now, has
Moby ever remixed any other Orbital because I love them and I would like to see
if Moby would be able to make it better. It would be amazingly hard. Later.

i agree. what i find most compelling about moby, is his ability to keep
me on my toes. he keeps me interested because i don't really know what
he's going to say next. and what he says (this is the important part)
and what he does....he does with MODERATION. he is labelled as a hardcore
vegan, but i don't think he is at all. i don't think there is too much
hardness in moby at all in anythign he does. and that is a very
honest humanistic quality that he expresses very well in all his music.
everythign from the "end of everythign" to "animal rights"....even "thousand"
is a soft song when you know moby.

Exactly. I feel bad; I mean this really is Damian's list but it's stagnated
to the point of utter boredom. There's never anything that sparks my
interest anymore. I don't like to bring it up again, but the philosophy
debate was a good one-and one that should really be considered a vital part
of why we all enjoy Moby as a thought provoking, intelligent musician. He
doesn't just release music-he releases *soul-wrenching* music. I think we
should have the freedom to discuss where they come from!
>so does that mean that we are to prioritize everything we think and act
about?
Only when it serves a purpose. Moby wants people to open their minds, but
the fact is for the most part he wants us to open them in his direction ;)
>and if people's health and the environment are high on moby's list, why are

I know this isn't the answer you're looking for-but (and I know you know
this already) he doesn't want to come off like a preacher in his
songwriting. I think there's a lot of people out there that write really
powerful political messages into their songs. I'm not sure that Moby could
pull that off without satirizing himself a little.

We can't forget Dark either; even if it was a tad repetative. I really hope

IMHO...Moby didn't do enough research for Essay One..I quote:
"It doesn't make sense to derive power from nuclear, coal, and petroleum
when we have solar, hydro, and wind power."
Now I agree that coal and petroleum are outdated sources of power..but the 3
options he gave aren't so "environmentally friendly(ef)" as they may seem:
Solar: Probably the only one that can claim to be 100% "ef". As everyone
knows all solar plants do is harness the sun for energy..Nothing wrong with
that...Only problem is the plants need to be in areas that get a LOT of
sun...So it'd be ineffective to place a plant in..Seattle, Washington for
example.
Hydro: Water is a great source of power..but not always ef. Anyone in the
NorthWest knows what the hyrdo dams have done to our salmon runs. Look at
what hyrdo dams have done to the great Colorado River and it's environment.
A lot of area is going to be lost when the Three Rivers(I think that's the
name) Dam goes into effect in China. Outside Magazine did a great story on
the dam a few months ago..I suggest everybody read it.
Wind: Once again..wind is a great source of power..but not always ef. The
number one problem is you need a steady wind..So not every area would be
suited for a wind farm. #2...Wind farms are VERY noisy.. a homeowner's
association in Spokane, WA(I believe) fought to have one contstructed on a
hill across from them..Think about it..these things run 24/7..hard to sleep
when you have a "whoop whoop" sound going. #3..Dead birds have been found
in and around windmills..These things do chop birds in half.
I quote once again:
"Basically we should stop doing those things that are destructive to the
environment, other creatures, and ourselves..."
When doing a paper/essay advocating something..I was taught that you play
Devil's Advocate..and see the other side of something..so you can counter
anything that might be said. Maybe Moby should have done that..he may have
learned that 2 out of the 3 choices he gave might not be the best choice.
BTW..I did do a paper in my Eng102 class about which is the best way to
produce power(I gave pros/cons about each)..It was my opinion that you use
whatever is best for the area(meaning in some areas..A nuclear power plant
might be best). If anyone wishes to discuss this further..don't hesitate to
email me privately :).
BTW #2 I do realize that Moby is a busy guy..and since he did put a lot of
facts in the EIW liner notes..It's hard to do research on every little
thing. I'm sure he realizes that he may be wrong too :).

I'm Sorry, but that is the worst excuse I have ever heard. It is precisly
that argument that I think Moby is tryng to cut through. I am vegan and do
not own a car. It is never the most convient thing, but that doesn't and
shouldn't matter. if it is something you truly believe in then DO IT!! Our
society in the US is built upon many things for convience sake, but that has
nothing to do with what is right morally. (Insert favorite political joke
here.) Listen to the facts that Moby places in front of you. Many are very
true. If it seems like something you want to support you will find a way
around the obstacles.

Having lived in dorms for the last two-and-a-half years, I can say I really
sympathize. I usually end up eating wilted salads or PB&J. Not that I'm
complaining, because it's my own choice, but a little variety would be nice.
However, just because you don't think you can be vegan in a dorm (it *is*
possible, though) doesn't mean you should give up altogether. I'm sure you
can at least go vegetarian. Simply cutting out meat still will leave you with
many options, at least in my experience. And it's easier to go vegan once you
have been vegetarian for a while.

Okay, I own a car. It's odd -- to get around effectively w/o a car, one would
probably have to live in a large city with a good public transit system. Yet
to get around in less citified areas, which would probably be quieter and far
less polluted, one needs a car.
Dammit, what we need are transporters like in Star Trek. That would solve
everything!
My opinion on this list -- I love the philosophical discussions much more than
the posts solely on music. Moby's stance on many issues attracted me to him
initially more than his actual music.
Peace,
Brian

the EYTM NYC Jungle Mix...

I agree with Aphex Twin. :) Richard D. James should make some interesting
tracks out of Moby's work. Other than that, I suppose I'd like to see what
an Uberzone mix of Moby would sound like. They've done some superb mixes for
Keoki...

Taking the stance of a dedicated Moby fan...
I joined this list for many reasons. First off and most importantly, I
joined because I wanted to learn more about Moby's music. As an electronic
musician myself, I want to know what makes his tracks tick, so to speak.
Also, I joined to find out more about his releases and remixes, and to get
an honest opinion on them. Talking about Moby's ideology should be an
acceptable part of this list, but there should be a wide range of topics
other than that. I've seen many lists deteriorate into, "what kind of
underwear does he wear?" or, "is it true that so-and-so only goes out at
night and watches pornos inside his/her house all day?" General stupidity
like that. Here's hoping this direction that Ryu is herding these fellow
members in doesn't deteriorate into this type of numbing, ludicrous babble.

Quality Seconds, had it been more intricate, would have been a damn fine
song. Obviously it was concieved as a joke by most Orbital fans, but I saw
it as a hint of P&P moving in a more industrial direction. It would have
been interesting had they explored this route on In Sides a bit more.

"Herding"? I'm not quite sure I like the implications. That this list has
either leaders or that we are capable of being herded.
Personally, I must admit that I have not listened to my Moby collection in
quite a while. I find the man's philosophy much more intreguing than his music
at the present music. But then again, what I listen to usually fluctuates (sp?)
depending on what's going on in my life.
