well, he's told me that voodoo child and lopez etc. are names he uses for
his tracks that don't fit into his more mainstream moby sound. his more
repetitive, deeper house tracks are usualy found on his own record label,
trophy. i've only heard "emptiness" and the voodoo child album, but i
love them both.
if anyone out there wants to get rid of any 12"s from trophy (other than
emptiness and the dog heaven single) i'd be happy to exchange them for cash.
i'm having trouble getting my hands on them.

he says that he likes it...and likes to hear it at a club,
but when it cums to bringing it into his own home, he
considers it to be "musical wallpaper" because like most
of the dance music he's heard, it lacks personality.
i think that his oppinion is changing now though.
i'm not sure if it's because of "animal rights" or if he's
just seeing things differently. or maybe it has to do with
a few electronic music bands going mainstream in the last
2 years. but i'd expect some floor fillers on this next album.

I suppose. Trent Reznor is another person famous for ripping himself off
like that, and I know many people who do similar mixes and give them
alternate names, out of those names come entirely different remixes. In
essence, it usually works out. However, I disagree that Moby's newest tracks
are basically old songs (not having heard Gracosia or however it's spelled)
but simply songs with minor similarities. The only similarity I can see is
possibly Anthem and Oil 1, but they're not similar enough to discard as
facsimile songs.

New style of house? Wow. I've never actually heard speed garage, but judging
by the name I assumed it was just another spin-off of gabber. ;P If you can

yes, what is all this hoo-hah about speed garage?
I have the new goldie single, and i personally think the remix by van
helden and its dub reprise arent really that good. It just sounds like
house music to me. And I don't like his daft punk remix, which samples
another song from their album but not the one its remixing.
If Moby did go jungle that would be way kool. Almost as kool as him
remixing Heathcliff or Inspector Gadget. I mean, the closest to jungle
he ever went was like the first few seconds of Everythime you Touch
Me. That's not really even jungle.
Now we all know who Moby himself has remixed, and what we think he
should remix, but I'm wondering:
Who do we think should remix Moby?
I mean most remixes of Moby are by himself right? (Kind of like FSOL,
they don't hire much outside remixers.)
I know Laurent Garnier and Jam n Spoon and members of this mailing
list have remixed him, but who else should?
I think Aphex Twin or Squarepusher remixing Moby would be phat. Or a
really hardcore jungle DJ. That'd be awesome. Like if Moby won't go
jungle, he could just have someone who is remix him!
cheers

From the Animal Rights interview:
"I like jungle a lot. There again I think it is kind of like
musical wallpaper, where to me it does all sound the same. You
know if I'm in a nightclub and they're playing jungle, it sounds
great to me and I love it and I'll dance to it a little bit.
But on a song level, it never really excites me. It, you know,
just works as sort of like the musical equivalent of graphic
design. You know, something you enjoy coming in contact with,
but not something you want to bring into your house." -Moby
> Could be awsome to see him turn this way, rite?
Nah, waste of his talent. Besides, I don't think he could outdo the
D&B guys that are already there. We can expect more introspective
moody electronic pieces from Moby in the near future, and it would
be nice if he would release some more exciting techno music, like
he used to do when he was on Instinct Records, and in the early Mute
days.

this list sucks anymore.
i'm not afraid to say it.
the most common reply to a sentence like that is "then leave".
but i won't go.
because there is too much to moby to talk about that 99% of
the people on this list neglect.
there was an argument a while back where a decision was made
to NOT talk about moby's filosophy and beliefs and to only talk
about release dates and similar boring things.
what interests me in moby, and draws me into his music is his
personal beliefs and feelings. these things are tabboo on this list.
and if it means i'll be thrown off for it, so be it...but i can't sit here
and read stuff about issues that are secondary to me any longer.
especially when i can simply go to dan's page and get all that anyway.
there is a link to any fact on moby from his page. go there if you
want lyrics, track listings, etc....
the reason this list has been having problems with puff daddy nonsense,
and simple "me too" replies is BECAUSE there isn't a whole lot of moby
news right now. so WHY THE HADES NOT DON'T WE TALK ABOUT
MOBY'S INSIDES?
to be a hypocrite....i will bring up a topic that i'd have an orgasm
if someone would reply and add some of their personal sentiments as well.
my question is this:
moby says that there are more important inssues in the world than those
the christian right preaches (condoms, skematics of the bible, etc...).
so does that mean that we are to prioritize everything we think and act about?
is there room for everyone to set their priorities? and is it a personal
decision
to make yapping about teens having sex your number one priority?
and if people's health and the environment are high on moby's list, why are
all his songs about his own problems with love relationships? is that i
violation
of what he believes? granted, he's human and allowed to violate himself as
much as he wants. i violate myself sometimes twice daly!
ok. please someone say something that interests me (and many of the others that
have been here for a while). thank you for reading this much.

That's a nice remix, but really weak "jungle". Though I'm sure I'll
enjoy any excursions Moby makes into drum & bass, he should probably
leave the serious jungle to the pros and trade remixes with them. He
could turn their 'musical wallpaper' into neat emotional songs, while
they take his material and mash it up!
My favorite track of Moby's that wonderfully fuses junglistic canned
beats with emotional pianos & strings is "Unloved Symphony". It's
not jungle, but it's great.
As a side note, I was kind of disappointed with Grooverider's remix
of the James Bond Theme. Even though it was cool and fun, I kept
expecting the drums to go crazy and explode at any moment. They
didn't. It had a good bassline, though.

i have to agree w/ Ryu here. i just signed on to the list a few weeks ago,
and although i've found some things interesting, most have been kinda
boring. i am just a beginning moby fan, and this list has helped me a lot
in finding out things about singles & aliases and such, but i want to learn
more about MOBY, and not just his music. his music is wonderful, and i
like the fact that there are diff't mixes of the same things because all
things can be said in diff't ways and still mean the same thing. there's
more to a person that just their music. that's my two cents anyway.
as for the issues.. there are many things out there to be active about.
everywhere u turn, there is injustice that's worth fighting against. some
ppl take it overboard (i.e. christian coalition and PETA), but they're
still fighting against it. what i like about MOBY is the fact that he's
done research.. like in his everything is wrong CD. i find that really
great that he knows what he is fighting for.. and is trying to educate
others. some ppl educate the wrong way, with violence. sometimes, i think
ppl worry too much over things... and sometimes not enough. i think
society has gotten to a point where everyone is fighting.. they're not
longer listening to each other, just fighting. when you have everyone each
yelling a diff't thing, it gets confusing and u don't know who to listen
to. i guess what i'm trying to say is that it's OK to fight for stuff, but
sometimes u have to listen to others to fully fight for a right. so, it's
your decision as to what u want to fight for... just be prepared to battle.
you have to know what your fighting for, or else you'll get trampled. and
maybe moby wants something else to write music about. i know that's the
way i am. some things i fight for verbally, others i write down.
sometimes you want to get off your soapbox for a little bit and take a
break. i hope this doesn't insult anyone, because that's the last thing i
want to do... and Ryu, i hope this is what u were looking for. this has
probably been the only thing i really wanted to reply to. but i'd like to
thank the list for helping me find out more about moby's music. i actually
know what to look for now... it's like turning on a light switch in a
cluttered room... no more bumping into hard objects and bruising my knees.
:P
Blessed Be,
Plovious

this is mark, I realize the last time i mailed you was (again) a while back,
Weird about the money, which I did send you...I guess some crazed postal
employee stole it (oh, well, I've wasted 20 bucks on worse things before)
I've been silent on the list for the prcise reason you mentioned-I think
that there is no good reason not to discuss philosophy on the list, and
furthermore that if Damien acts too stringently upon the list (he doesn't
care about quality as much as some weird rule being broken-rules I find on
no other list)
anyways, I'd love to continue our aborted discussion oon life, love,
philosophy, art, and music (your cd is now throughout europe, i sent a tape
to austria, and he asked me for a cd, so I used my friends japanese cd
recorder to dub your cd, 3 times 2 copies of which are i paris, and one in
germany)
