  65. I would like to suggest that it is perfectly reasonable for something
  66. off
  67. topic to ARISE from something relevant to Moby.  However, if someone
  68. wishes to continue discussion, why can't they just write to the other
  69. people who mention it as well?  I understand that a few messages must

  71. up on the list first, but once it is understood that a large number of
  72. the
  73. readers are fed up with the topic, please be kind and discuss it outside
  74. the confines of the list.  Puffy and MTV would be perfect examples of

  156. Minnesota. I also was fortunate enough to head on down to "Fist Ave.", and see
  157. him and Juno Reactor perform. I am from the Twin Cities, and I am a senior in
  158. highschool here. I love MOby, and a lot of other artists (including the one
  159. formerly known as Prince.) Other than listening to music, and going to
  160. concerts, I keep busy with school, and just hanging out. There is not a lot to
  161. do in the Twin Cities at this time of year (as you may already know), so fun
  162. is limited. Hmmm.. on Chicago; I actually thought about going to Loyola next
  163. year, but my dad is determined to not have me go to college in an urban

  320. Ok-this is probably going to put me in several people's bad books but what
  321. the hell...
  322. I'll start by taking a look at some of my favorite artists:

  324. nine inch nails, Moby, Spiritualized, DJ Shadow, Psychic TV, Coil & Death In
  325. Vegas

  327. All of them (IMHO) are extremely talented musicians/producers etc. and they
  328. all seem to take great effort in over & under producing their music to
  329. acheive certain effects.  Anyone who's gotten stoned and listened to Floyd
  330. knows that one can realize a lot about what goes into a song in the right
  331. frame of mind.
  332. Last week I decided to give Moby a shot after indulging.  I listened to two
  333. cd's I'd compiled myself consisting of early Instinct material up to the
  334. latest rock & Trophy stuff.  I've got to say that it really left me cold.
  335. I'd expected *so* much more, because as I'm sure we all do I love Moby's
  336. work.  Obviously band's like Spiritualized, Mercury Rev & DJ Shadow tailor
  337. their work a little bit more to the drug crowd.  But people like nine inch
  338. nails have such superlative 'finishing-touch' talent I'd hoped that Moby
  339. would too.
  340. Don't get me wrong, I still consider Moby to be possibly the most talented
  341. single man in the industry; I just figured that someone who writes such
  342. emotionally evocative (and sometimes draining) music would produce a more
  343. textured product.
  344. Unless anyone knows different I'll assume it's due to his lack of interest
  345. in the drug scene.

  347. Anyway, I'd love to hear thoughts/rants/tirades/agreements etc. on this.
  348. (and please, I don't want *1* person telling me that Puffy makes good drug

  375. I agree with puffy.  Since the first time I heard him ("Can't Nobody Hold Me
  376. Down") I thought he totally sucked. Mase sucks too. The only good artist on
  377. that label is B.I.G. who at least had some talent and originality. Personally
  378. rap wise I have the most respect for the Wu-Tang Clan. Rza is basically the
  379. moby of hip-hop original, groundbreaking, and innovative.

  406. the liner notes from Next Is The E(Instinct):  Upon hearing "Next Is The E",
  407. many people make the assumption that this song is about drug use.  The truth
  408. is that I disapprove of the irresponsible use of drugs.  I've seen far too
  409. many lives damaged from drug use to even consider glorifying drugs in a
  410. song.  - Moby.

  469. this is an interesting subject!
  470. i'd say that the reason that moby's music doesn't sound as inspiring under
  471. the influence is because of the artists you mentioned above, he's the least
  472. likely to record music while on drugs.
  473. i KNOW that spriritualized, shadow, ptv, and coil are large supporters of 
  474. substances in general,,,and i'd be willing to bet that reznor and death in 
  475. vegas are supporters as well.

  477. but moby is not really into drugs too much, and i'd be willing to bet that
  478. he records with a chemically free mind.  his music probably sounds
  479. dry when you're not.
