Message for our Host, Damian (moby.org)
man sorry to hear about your pc crash, hope you'll get it asap!
- - wanted to let you know, that i've been 'watching' the move-ments on this
SUPER-great List,
every day since Christmas, and everything is Fine... members keep floating
in like bees to an
opening flower (especially under 20!!) Welcome ! ...and everybody talks
about Prodigy, so nothing strange :-)
- - I also re-visited the www.moby.org page (when??? ...don't ask!)
and I think you keep making it better... it gives you that
Underwater-feeling.... just like going into the blue gives you a
space-feeling, don't it?
(I have some interesting fact for you about underwater-counters for Pages,
but about that laterrrr, when you back digitally...)
- - I only wonder why some members' messages keep coming in double.... like
Rekkit's, Loey's? Dennis's? ...i donno
- - Olso a re-request to ALL OF YE' : to strip the HTML source codes from
your replies,
cause i'm an old man with tired eyes, and I read in code all day
already.... [thankz]
Page coming soon!

Discussion Item for 1998:
Will Moby go commercial? Will he be a 'company slave'? Will he be bought by
Sony? (Dance Pool)
Will he Change? Will he stay the same? Will he disappear?
Will his new cd be SOMETHING to look forward to for a YEAR???

I'll admit to owning a pair of Prodigy and a trio of Chemical Brothers
CDs. The funny thing is I guess popular music can credit my purchase of
these. I don't ever really listen to the radio, and rarely TV (unless its
a movie... which lead to me discovering MOBY) but its thanks to MP3s due
to music popularity.
I don't think P's FOTL is as good as their previous effort - which from
what I head (depending of the type of music you like) isn't as good as the
first. I like the Chemical Bros' album Exit Planet Dust - I think thats a
solid effort - DYOH isn't as good IMHO
But, I am kind of surprised at some of the acts that have become more
popular - a group that I have loved for years I figured was a ripe
contented - Meat Beat Manifesto
now, MBM is another one of those "groups" that have changed their sound
slowely over the course of their career - but they are definetely (IMHO)
in the same realm.
- ---
on a different topic... I have been listening to Everything is Wrong -
mixed and remixed a lot recently, and besides some of the record pops and
such, I love it - which wasn't the case when I first picked it up. Its
made me want to dig around and pick up some of the singles to get more
mixes...

my roomate has the Until It Sleeps cd single with the
moby remix on it. aside from the comment that
metallica redid the drums it's still a very good mix.
i'm not one to normally enjoy metallica but i listed
to that miz quite a bit.
as for the whole daft punk/prodigy etc string.
some of my favourite moby stuff is the trophy singles
and the voodoo child stuff. all not terrible complex
but very very good. thats why i like daft punk. it is
so pleasing to listen to and dance to. if someone
wants to get a certain instrument and be just as good
go for it, i'll buy your record too.
i still like prodigy but i think i may be the only
one who prefers jilted to the others. i love the
sound of glass breaking used as percussion.
does anyone know whats next for moby? a moby record,
voodoo child record? i once read somewhere that he
said he wanted to do an animal rights mixed remixed
type album...

animal rights mixed and remixed sounds like an interesting idea - granted
I havn't heard many of the songs on that album, nor their mixes - and even
considering its a "rock" album - still sounds interesting
and for the guy who likes Prodigy's Music for the Gilted Generation more
than the other two - I am sort of on that boat - I like it more than FOTL,
but I haven't hear all, much less own Experience - I do think its got some
really good stuff on it. The PWEI appearence is also quite good... which
brings me to something interesting...
is it just me... or has Prodigy always been one of those bands to be
discussed on a lot of mailing lists - I know the surge in their popularity
helped a great deal... but its kind of interesting
I used to be on PWEI Nation - Prodigy was spoken of on and off for quite a
while (probobly thanks to MFTGG) and then it ran amok on Zombies (Meat
Beat Manifesto) when the Smack My Bitch Up video came out... and that was
about the same time I got back on this list... and what's going on on
Mobility? A mirror of the chat on Zombies... SMBU
I am pretty sure they also had a surge on a few other lists I am on (and
it wasn't my fault either!) thats just kind of amusing

It's 100% Moby, under various pseudonyms.

Yeah, it's like Early Underground with a sprinkling of _Moby_.
I like it.

I have never seen this in music stores, but I obtained my copy from a
fellow Moby fan. My guess is that it's rare but not extremely rare.
Did you notice that "Drop A Beat" has a different ending (with that
vocal sample thrown in again)? Also, "Go" is the full Woodtick Mix,
not an edit like on _Moby_.

In response to Daniel's questions:
>>Wow, where'd you find that? (store, city)
I found it at a new and used CD store in Boulder, Colorado... couldn't even
tell you the name of the store (local mom&pop place). It was on the used
rack for sale - $3.99. The Instinct logo is on the sleeve, and it caught
my eye...
>> It's 100% Moby, under various pseudonyms.
Yeah, that's what threw me the most, because it's like he took EU, and just
changed the names of the artists on some of them. Weird.
>>Yeah, it's like Early Underground with a sprinkling of _Moby_.
>> I like it.
It's funny 'cause the playlist is almost all in the same order too!
>> I have never seen this in music stores, but I obtained my copy from a

Well, my question is... did Moby want to do it, or Instinct? I'm thinking
Instinct (as they love to gain $$$ off of moby - Hence B-Sides and Go
Remixes!). It says all songs by Richard Hall... but we all knew that.
Also, no pics of Moby on the CD, so it's pro'lly not Moby's idea!
>Did you notice that "Drop A Beat" has a different ending (with that

Yeah, I heard that, and was like - "Huh?!" It was pretty cool though. I
knew Go was longer than the one on Self Titled, *and* Early Underground.
Very interesting... not sure why Instinct presented it the way they did...
it's like Moby is the leader of these four guys (which depending on your
point of view, he is, but...) I think they shouldn't have made it sound
like Moby was the central guy... sounds retarded.
Like Richard Bachman thanking Stephen King in all of his books, and people
finding out Richard Bachman really is Stephen King. Hmm....

Instinct Dance predated any Moby album. I like to think of it as
Moby's zeroth album. :) When Instinct was a wee tiny label, they
wanted to look like they had more than just Moby, so his early 12"
singles were released under various pseudonyms. This is mentioned
on Early Underground, where it refers to things like the Barracuda
12". The pseudonymical tracks were later repackaged as Moby songs.
> Well, my question is... did Moby want to do it, or Instinct?

I agree -- Instinct wanted to build itself up and look like it had
a really kickin' roster of artists. My guess is that Moby didn't
mind at the time, though. If I was in his place, I would be excited
to be able to release under multiple pseudonyms like that. It would
encourage musical prolificness and diversity.

Well...if you want to get "technical", the comp did come out before EU(about
2 years). Maybe before EU..they(Instinct) saw Moby rise among the
underground..so they decided to get a few more songs..combine it w/ the
comp...slap Moby's name on it..and release it?!?! FYI..I haven't seen
it..but then again..I'm not as a hardcore shopper as I used to be :).

I'm curious..what's the whole story between Moby and Instinct..Is it true
that Moby didn't intend Ambient to be released..how'd the falling out
happen, etc?!?!

hehe..not to sound nit picky..but how can you say "best drum and bass

anyway, I think Moby and Jack Dangers would get along famously together -
musically, it would be damn interesting. I am actually quite surprised
thew two havn't worked together yet - either mixing eachothers stuff or in
a project.
Micheal Wells would be onother good guy for either to work with... but
thats ANOTHER story all together...
