  75. Good luck getting CDDA to run with an IDE cdrom drive =) It's a pain in the
  76. ass, I've got a SCSI system so I had no trouble getting it running from the
  77. get-go .. I would recommend you hit #mp3 or something similar on irc to see
  78. if anyone else had similar problems (I'm sure they did)

  273. Agreed.  Moby seems out of touch with the current state of electronica
  274. (ugh, what a trendy word (but what should I use?)).  He probably bases
  275. his ideas at least partially on the fact that he's been ostracized as a
  276. "sell-out" by many people in the scene.  So he naturally thinks "these
  277. people don't want to accept anything outside of their own limited
  278. niche, so therefore they must be just stagnating in a closed-minded
  279. clique."  While he has some valid points, he really seems to be basing
  280. his conclusions on misinformation.  Plenty of creative, emotional,
  281. refined, *musical* electronic music is coming out all the time.  Maybe
  282. Moby is aware of it, but is just burned out on the whole thing -- it
  283. just doesn't get him excited anymore.  That's perfectly understandable,
  284. though it's no excuse for issuing blanket condemnations of the whole
  285. scene.  It also doesn't help his case when he bangs on a guitar and
  286. screams about sex and revolvers.  That seems like taking a few big
  287. steps back, but that's just my opinion and prejudices.  I don't deny
  288. Moby the right to make any type of music, or to be opinionated.  He's
  289. still my favorite musician, probably because he has such an accessible
  290. and friendly personality, unlike so many of his contemporaries who are
  291. shrouded in anonymity.

  328. actually, the "uplifting 4 beat" mix of into the blue and "westbam" mix 
  329. of feeling so real are pretty much happy hardcore. just a bit slow. i 
  330. play the westbam mix often in my sets and it's brilliant sped up! i'd 
  331. really like to get the 4 beat mix on vinal, but can't find it anywhere... 
  332. btw...the 4 beat mix was done by seduction and wishdakota, two fairly big 
  333. HH dj/producers...

  706. It doesn't seem like much is going on with Moby and such these days. 
  707. But when you really think about it... he has been keeping himself busy. 
  708. He's toured and still is touring quite a bit (mainly in Europe however)
  709. and he's been doing mixes here and there.

  711. One recent example of Moby mixing can be found on my web page.  I know
  712. we've heard about Moby doing something for John Lydon, well, now we have
  713. the stuff.  Moby has remixed the song "Grave Ride" and I was fortunate
  714. enough to get a copy.  The mix is currently available on a promo CD that
  715. has the full upcoming album plus some remixes.  I'm happy with what Moby
  716. did to the song (especially when you compare it to the original).  On my
  717. web page, you'll find two wave samples: One is a short sample - 30 sec
  718. (319k) - under 2 min on a 28.8 modem.  The other is longer - 60 seconds
  719. (646k) - under 4 min on a 28.8 modem.  I wish I could have provided the
  720. whole thing in MP3 but it looks like my CD-ROM doesn't have the tools
  721. necessary to do the job.  Maybe I'll find a fix-it tomorrow, if so, I'll
  722. let ya know.

  1121. Hi I'm new here so I'm supposed to introduce myself.
  1122. My name is Kate, I'm 16.  Like Moby, I am from Connecticut (not
  1123. specifically from Darien but I do have family there).  I have been a total
  1124. fan since I first heard Everything is Wrong when I was a freshman (I just
  1125. finished my junior year of high school).  I would not shut up about Moby
  1126. and played EIW continuously.  When I went to Lollapalooza 95 in Hartford I
  1127. was sitting wiht my friend and we were talking about what show we wanted to
  1128. go to next, and I was like "I want to see Moby."  We were flipping through
  1129. the program and He WAS PLAYING SECOND STAGE THAT DAY!  We left halfway
  1130. through Cypress Hill to go see him, and tho it had started out a nice day
  1131. it was pouring rain and with maybe 50 other devoted fans we waited it out
  1132. to see him.  It was incredible. He played materail mostly from EIW, and
  1133. during 'Feeling So Real'  the rain stopped and there was a huge rainbow
  1134. over the stage.  He also played SweeT Home Alabama and Paradise City.
  1135.         I met Moby this past weekend at a big stupid radio station concert
  1136. in Agawam, Mass.  There were 20 bands there but my friend and I (the same
  1137. girl from Lolla 95) went only to see Moby.  We were stuck in *5* hours of
  1138. traffic and ended up paying an exorbitant amount to park on some guy's lawn
  1139. but we made it.  Moby was incredible.  I had to shred my way through a
  1140. crowd of ten year olds and their parents but I made it up to the very
  1141. front.  It wsa so worth it.  He played a bunch of stuff from EIW, Paranoid
  1142. by Balck Sabbath ("This next song is called 'Paranoid.'  I wrote it when I
  1143. was three."), and some stuff from Animal Rights.  Afterwards I did get the
  1144. chance to actually meet him in this little tent which was surrounded by
  1145. pre-teen girls hoping to catch a glimpse of Better than Ezra.  He was very
  1146. polite (I was so excited that I was crying really hard) and signed my Move
  1147. CD and my EIW shirt.  He also signed my arm.  He hugged me and gave me a
  1148. kiss and I was just like "I love you."  I'm such a pathetic little fan
  1149. girl.
  1150.         So anyway, sorry that was so long but I had to get it out.  I only
  1151. own Move and EIW but I have heard most of his stuff under the name Moby and
  1152. some of the Voodoo Child stuff.  Its hard to buy a lot when you have no
  1153. money.  Other electronic artists that I like are the Chemical Brothers,
  1154. Underworld, and the Future Sound of London.  My favorite bands are Sonic
  1155. Youth, Pavement, the Breeders, the Clash, DEpeche Mode, the Cure, the
  1156. Smiths, Hole, the Smashing Pumpkins, Morphine, Beck...let's just say I have
  1157. a wide range of musical tastes but only within certain areas. The bands I
  1158. have liked the longest are probably the Cure and Depeche Mode, I got their
  1159. tapes when I was 7.  Before that I pretty much liked the Talking Heads and
  1160. Mr. Rogers. I've never really listened to like Top 40 music, and I'm
  1161. sayinfg that just as a fact and not to be incredibly pretentious.  I've
  1162. been typing forever so that's all for now...

  1223. w/ Sesame Street(pretty cheesy though)...Maybe we could leave it up to
  1224. Negativland or Emergency Broadcast Network..They could use it as a
  1225. comment on the state of education in the states :)
