So can anyone confirm that Moby has changed his play list for the
concert or did I just misunderstand his previous concerts? I got the
impression that it was pure "Animal Rights" and maybe some punk
versions of songs off of "EIW".
This might really mean he's moving back toward electronic music if
he 'changed' his set.

releases... then one was a list of dpeeche mode singles (on sale 3 for
10 pounds) and erasure singles (on sale 3 for 10 pounds).. nothing too
exciting.. on and there was a list of the best 1996 mute release.. AR
and Mixed and Remixed were on the list :)

So Moby has publicly stated that he is disappointed in the small number
of fans he has? Taking that into consideration, is it any wonder why he
chose to change the lyrics to Revolver? Why the hell are certain people
here bashing him for it? Moby knows exactly what video exposure will do;
it will show his music to fans who would have never heard of him otherwise.
This is a good thing. So to Moby, no, you are not a sellout; you are
still respected in my eyes.

Also, regardless of whether or not Moby cares about the singles chart...
the record company does. They know how it can help an albums sales and
provide more publicity. Both the artist and record label have to try
and please each other or the road will come to an end.
I agree that things in the music business have gone to the wayside.
Trying to be a collector with just a few favorite artists is a chore and
money consumer. For example: Bjork who only has two albums (and one
remix album) has a TON of stuff. I've basically given up trying to get
everything of hers. It's too difficult and too expensive. I don't
think she's worth all that trouble. But anyway...

They definitely take a lot from SMG-but SMG has been ripping other bands
off for ages. I met them at an Goth/Industrial club in Toronto a couple of
years ago and they seemed like ok guys, but not to much into the crowd. Is
Metro the next album? After Torture Technique & Sins of the Flesh I kind
of forgot about them (didn't like Burn one bit)...
BTW-GK does the music for a Sony Playstation game called Test Drive: Off
Road; if you can get your hands on the game stick it in an audio cd
player-there's actually some *really* good short pieces on there (in
addition to some Guilty remixes)

I agree-I've been collecting nin material for a few years & I'm up to about
46 nin cd's, 50+ cd's with Trent's name on them, and 20+ vinals; I'm
finding myself going in that direction with Moby also-it's getting
expensive. A friend is into the Bjork thing-he's got over 30 cd's....I
think that the record companies are putting subliminal messages in radio
waves that make us want to collect *EVERYTHING* by artists we like ;)

i agree with you. moby is not a sellout in my eyes either.
the reason that he wants popularity is to have a large fan base and get his
music out to as many new people as possible. i don't think his aims are
to make money. when he changed the lyrics for revolver, he did it to let new
people hear his music and not to sell singles. or at least that's what i think.

Moby for making music(thereby "trashing" his ideology)..why should we
slam him for changing the lyrics to get a vid on MTV? :)

oh i agree totally... i also like bjork an i am amazed that every time i
look at her singles.. i see a new single almost everytime that ididnt
know existed... i think the record industry has decided to tap into the
"completists catagory" (which too fit in)... that being that there are
people who will pick 1-8 or so people or bands to collect and thats what
they will spend the majoirty of their music money on... and so every
week they release something.. knowing that the completists out there
will buy it wheather it be good or bad.. just for the collection...

As you were saying about not slamming Moby for doing what he did with the
AR Video..
Im wondering though couldnt Moby have chosen a different song to make a
video for.. sure ar was the main single but if they told me i had to
change lyrics (not even curse words) then i would picked a different
song... I havent listened to the cd in awhile but Come On Baby might have
been a better choice.. its a good rock song.. did he curse?? :) i cant
remember...
Honestly i used to love the rock songs moby did from ETIW and HEAT.. those
were more rough than the songs he did on AR..
well anyways i must go back to work!

i don't think that he cursed in "come on baby".
i like that song much better than revolver anyways, and think that it would
have been a better pick for a first single. i don't understand why he wanted
to release a cover song as his first mtv single anyways.

Maybe he or the Powers that be thought Revolver was a better choice cuz
it's a lot softer/slower than the other songs(COB included)?!?! I'm
curious..is the vid playing over in Europe..and if so..is it censored
as well? Maybe I'll go back to when he was on 120 Min and watch it
again...Cuz I remeber them joking about the vid being censored..and
what a BIG joke it was...Either way...my point is/was...that for
whatever reason Moby chose to censor Rev(at the request of MTV) and we
should not slam him for that.

Well I personally if i were in mobys shoes i wouldnt change lyrics just to
make mtv play my video.. at least bleep it out or as i said bring in a new
video.. But still i cant believe mtv would make him do that because he
wasnt cursing or anything close to that.. im sure there have been many
videos that have 'evil' and 'bad' messages in them.. And plus if moby
wants to get into the Rock scene he would probably want to have a less
softer song and a more rough song..
He should of just taken WHAT LOVE fron ETIW (god i hope thats the name my
mind just went blank!)
that would solve his problem :)
or he could just make a huge 4cd techno album!

hey everyone, i just wanted to say bye before i unsubscribed and
went
home for the summer. i don't know what i will do without e-mail
access...i
think i'll have to sweet-talk my parents. i will try to stay current
with
the list by reading it off the net. that way, i hopefully won't miss
any
moby tour stuff over the summer. all i'm going to say is that moby had
better hit the midwest hard this summer. i don't think he'll quite make
it
to the quad cities, but i might be able to get to a concert in chicago.
maybe i'll be seeing you. good luck to the rest of you in getting to
see or
meet him. FYI, i'll be on the list 'til tomorrow sometime, but you can
e-mail me personally for a couple more days. have a groovy summer
everyone,
and i'll chat with you all next fall!
happy listening!

hey everyone, i just wanted to say bye before i unsubscribed and
went
home for the summer. i don't know what i will do without e-mail
access...i
think i'll have to sweet-talk my parents. i will try to stay current
with
the list by reading it off the net. that way, i hopefully won't miss
any
moby tour stuff over the summer. all i'm going to say is that moby had
better hit the midwest hard this summer. i don't think he'll quite make
it
to the quad cities, but i might be able to get to a concert in chicago.
maybe i'll be seeing you. good luck to the rest of you in getting to
see or
meet him. FYI, i'll be on the list 'til tomorrow sometime, but you can
e-mail me personally for a couple more days. have a groovy summer
everyone,
and i'll chat with you all next fall!
happy listening!

Moby: It's unfortunate marketplace reality
MP: Yeah. Um
Moby: At the same time I do understand what MTV's criteria is for...I
don't know..restricting potentially offensive material. Because if
you're going out to tens of millions of people, there are gonna be some
people who cant deal with ambigous artistic expression. You know you
and I might be able to hear a lyric like, "That's when I reach for my
revolver, that's when it all gets blown away," and understand that it's
not actually advocating gun use, that it's an expression of dispair and
rage. But, not everybody has the critical facualties to be able to
process that way.
MP: Right...
Above transcribed painfully..with a lot of ummm..uhhh's..and pushing
the rewind button a lot from the 120 Min interview.
So there's Moby's take on it..Maybe we all just need to realize that
MTV's VERY hypocritical(from what little I watch..I've seen Warren G
sing, "I shot the sherriff, but I didn't shoot the deputy" and ppl
having sex in a hot tub(thanks to Real World))..and they don't have a
clue(Amp is great at times..but the fact they just started it up proves
that fact)...FYI..I don't see any difference between blanking and
changing the lyric..it's still censorship. And..more than
likely..Mute/Elektra paid for the video..and seeing how most companies
look at the bottom line..they wouldn't of given Moby more $$$ to make
another vid..just make him censor Revolver..Isn't the vid for Come On
Baby out?? If so..maybe it wasn't going to be ready in time to send to
MTV to play days b4/after the US release of AR. Which I think would be
a critical time to let the States know that a new Moby album is
(coming) out.
Just my ramblings,

I don't think he cursed in "Come On Baby" except for a whispered but
distinct "fuck me" right before the guitar instrumental part.

He did make a video for Come On Baby. I saw it on Top Of The Pops over here
in Europe.Top Of The Pops is a weekly half hour music show in Britain(I live
in Ireland and get it here) that counts down the top 40 singles and has a
few live performances on it. They showed the video a couple of times.Never
saw it on MTV though. It basically him in a room, with a chair with something
painted on his chest.I can't really remember it, it was a few months ago
now. He even did it live.He had the words "PORN STAR " painted on his chest
for that one.
As for showing revolver over here, they used to show it where he sang the
normal lyrics, i.e "That's when I reach for my revolver, that's when it all
gets blown away," but since the US banned them and changed them, they have
reverted to the alternative ones.
Just thought I'd clear that up.......

Whether or not you agree with the decision (Moby's?) to change the
Revolver lyrics for MTV, the question that's begging to be asked
is:
Does Moby have the right to change the lyric to a song that he
didn't even write?
My gut reaction is 'no way!', it's not his and he shouldn't
have even thought about it. But then the Fugees sang of
'Killing THEM softly' which makes me wonder if it can't be a
good thing sometimes. I guess if Moby's intentions had
been good I'd have said yes, but as it was only to get the
video on MTV and make more money by promoting the album better,
I have a little trouble with it.
Not forgetting that 'Next Is The E' became 'I Feel It',
because the mis-intepreted meaning to the first was objected to!!
'E-zer Goode, E-zer Goode, he's Ebeneezer Goode' (as The Shamen once said).

Well..he did ask them..and they did ok it for the radio..but were irked
when it was censored in the video.

You're partly right and partly wrong imho...Yes..I'm sure Moby censored
the vid to promote the album..but I don't think the reason was money..I
think it was just for exposure..more fans...If he wanted to make more
$$$..he would have made catchy 3 minute pop songs that'd stick in the
top 10 for months.

Moby is going to play at Q101's Jamboree '97 on May 25th at the new
World Music Theatre! Tickets are $25. They go on sale THIS
SATURDAY at 10:00 AM Central. The Ticketmaster number to call is
(312)559-1212. Some of the other artists playing will be Erasure, Bjork,
Beck, Republica, Jamiroquai (sp?) and others.
If I end up going, this will be the first rock concert I've been to, so I
have a few questions. How does one go about meeting the
performers? Does any lip-syncing go on at Q101 concerts? Will there
be more that one stage?

Either its as easy as walking into the backstage area or seeing the actual
artist amongst the crowd or it will be the most difficult time you'll ever
have. If a backstage pass is needed for the backstage, you better have a
good connection or you're screwed. Security guards act stupid because
they're told to. They can only let certain people in and so on...and if
you're a male, make that twice as difficult (no offense to our female
members, but I've seen it before. Ladies first.)
> Does any lip-syncing go on at Q101 concerts?
That depends on the concerts. The fact its Q101 doesn't mean a thing. It all
depends on the artist. My guess is that NO lip synching.
>Will there be more that one stage?
Not sure...the lineup is huge...almost 13 bands I think. So they'll play
very short sets or have a few stages. The lineup so far I recall is...
Moby...Bjork...Jamiroquai...Beck...Social Distortion...Erasure...Soul
Coughing...Republica...James...Veruca Salt...and thats ten so far. I'm sure
$25 is worth for some of the groups?

I can't believe!!! You guys just don't know how lucky you are...
Erasure (my number one group), Moby (my second), Bjork & James (more
favorites of mine), plus those others that I have enjoyed a song or two
with. And the price being charged is nothing. <G>
Gads, maybe I should go... hmmm $318 for a round trip flight from SLC.
A little expensive for me but it's still tempting...

who ever said you need backstage passes to meet a performer is so far
from the truth.. i try to get an autograph from every performer i see..
and i have been around 80% successful with no backstage passes.. my
tricks for when you see moby...
if its at a new venue... get their early... learn the way of the land...
i usually walk around the entire building before i go in... figure out
where the tour buses are... learn whats roped off (backstage) and whats
not (free territory)... if its a major concert (multi-acts, ie:
lollapalooza, or a stadium show) figure out where the radio station
buses are (for a show like lollapalooza the artists usually give
interviews during the person before them)... okay during the show.. have
fun man.. but after the show.. be prepared to book out of there and to
the buses... if possible try to catch the performers before they hit the
bus... they will probably ignore you and still go into the bus (which i
understand) but they know there is someone waiting for an autograph and
you can expect someone to stick their head out in 10 minutes or so...
then again.. i had to wait at Lyle Lovit (yes i saw Lyle Lovit with my
parents for my moms b'day :) bus for over 2 hours.. but it was worth
it... it ended up to be me and one other girl.. and he stopped and
talked to us.. told us that if he knew we were out there he would have
had them saved him some pizza.. he was really cool... dont be too
pushy.. ive seen people get annoyed and start assaulting the bus and
what have you.. this people always seem to go away sans autograph...
there you go.. tips from the pro...

Subject: (mobility) Moby's Chicago Gig...
I found the entire lineup for Moby's Chicago appearance. I sure hope he
comes again for a smaller venue or this show will sell out in 30 seconds on
Saturday morning at 10am. Here's the list in no particular order...and my
interest in seeing them.
The Verve Pipe (I used to live in East Lansing and drink beer with the lead
singer)
Echo and the Bunnymen (I've seen Elektrafixion, same thing, should be cool)
Republica (I'm curious to see them, any opinions here?)
Social Distortion (Not sure yet...been around maybe too long)
The Cardigans (Not.)
Soul Coughing (Definitely Yes...jazzy rap)
Jamiroquai (Um, can we say Stevie Wonder?)
The Mighty Mighty Bosstones (I like ska, but not their style of ska)
Veruca Salt (my equation woman with guitar = turn on)
James (Always a pleasure...I'll be going to their local gig two days after
this show)
Beck (does he ever stop touring?)
Bjork (how will the digital stuff transfer to a live show)
...and last but not least
Moby (no contest, my fave on this bill.)
All for $25. Damn! This will definitely sell out the day it goes on sale. I
don't want to wake up early Saturday morning, but I'm gonna have to now, right?

as i've said here before, i saw her show in nov. of 95. it was really

moby's show is still probably one of the best i've been to. i saw him on
the tour before this and it was great! lots of techno and just enough
guitar to break it up a bit. i'd like to see him this time around, but i
don't think it'll be half as good.

I guess I'm curious to see them in a "guilty pleasure" kind of way. Maybe
its that way the lead singer flaunts her stuff around...oh well.

I guess my opinion of The Cardigans is no opinion at all. I still have yet
to hear another single from their album come out and I hear they cover a few
Black Sabbath songs in their live set...gotta admit, I'm an early-years
Sabbath fan. And I also hear from their fans that their first CD is better
then their latest/second one.

This live/jazzy stuff is really catchy...I must admit I even like that Ben
Folds Five group from North Carolina. Maybe because I used to listen to
Elton John as a kid.
>> Bjork (how will the digital stuff transfer to a live show)
>as i've said here before, i saw her show in nov. of 95. it was really

Its electronic stuff like this that needs more stage stuff. I've seen
Depeche Mode live several times because the stage stuff really adds to the
show. Okay, so what if its several videos of them in the desert or some
stuff like that...it adds to the show. This new CD of theirs, "Ultra"...I
can understand why they won't tour for it...its good, but a bit too moody
for their live set. Now if they just did a "Greatest Hits" tour then hey, do
it man.

I've seen Moby live 3 times and each time was like a "spiritually orgasmic"
experience (interesting description, I know). But with this new material,
I'm looking forward to just the sheer raw power of it all. When I saw him do
stuff like "What Love" and "All That I Need Is To Be Loved" it was just RAW,
you know?
>WHOisTHISdooinTHISsyntheticTYPEalphaBETApsychadellicFUNKIN?
I just now realised this is from "elektrobank" by the Chemical Brothers.
Which reminds me...anyone here going to that Chemical Brothers/Orb show in
Chicago this Saturday? Has anyone here seen either of them live? Tell me
stuff to expect! The closest I've come to seeing them live was when Alex
Paterson DJ'ed before Meat Beat Manifesto recently.
