"So, what is the biggest misconception about Moby?"
Moby: "That I'm a lot more rigid and didactic. That I'm a rigid
nondrinking, nondrug-taking fascist." "I also think the other great
misrepresentation that applies to both of us(Moby and Danzig) is that
we're rigidly aligned to one musical genre. The notion that I'm just
"the electronic-dance guy," and you're "the satanic death-rocker." "
"Okay, but if I were a parent, I'd rather have my kids listening to
Green Day than Mariah Carey. If I had 14-year-olds, I'd rather have
them listen to White Zombie than the Dave Matthews Band."
"The notion of Satanism fascinates me. I always get asked, "If you're
a Christian, how can you be a part of the world of sex, drugs, and rock
and roll?" I think that if I were Satan and I really wanted to
separate people from their potential goodness, the last thing I would
do is hang out in satanic heavy-metal bars. I'd infiltrate
multinational corporations. What causes more destruction, people in
their basement with a pentagram drawn in the dirt or multinational
tobacco corporations?"
Bits and pieces of the previous were taken from the Danzig vs. Moby
interview in AP..Be sure to read it or pick it up.
Lastly...
So I'm doing my weekly cd shopping when I should find the Into The Blue
single(CDMute179A)...even better was the price($1.00)..Only on the 3rd
track as I type..but LOVE the cd so far...The Beatmasters Mix was
pretty interesting/beautiful.

Yeah, I finally saw the DJ Cake CDs online. I don't know why, I never
try CD Europe (probably because it's so expensive). They also have it
at German Music express. Maybe I'll get it through Mute bank. Everyone
says it's the worst of the Trophy series.. I'll only be getting it to complete
the collection. That's too bad.

Seems like there is a definite trend of Moby losing his desire to make
electronic music. I really like Why Can't it Stop? and I think Emptiness
is pretty good. I now hear that Sugar Baby is the worst of the bunch..
Hmmm.
Then I read on the AOL transcript that Moby hasn't abandoned electronic
music. Is this an indication that he feels compelled to go back to
techno?
I got the feeling from the AOL chat that he really feels that Animal Rights
was a mistake. I guess a lot of people don't like it (I happen to love it
except for the explicit lyrics that weren't necessary). I feel sorry for him,
he took a big chance and now he says that releasing a classical/punk
album was his biggest mistake.
I honestly thought Animal Rights was going to put him into the big time.
I guess it just didn't happen.
I sure hope he doesn't try to force techno if he doesn't really want to do
it. It'll be interesting to see which direction Moby finally decides to go.

Am I reading this correctly? Was there techno equipment out there on
stage in addition to the rock equipment? I got the impression that his
recent touring was purely rock.
When you say that he played techno, was this on DAT tape or was it
played live? Must be a strange experience to go from rock to techno.
I assume the stuff is on DAT if he's up there dancing. I still haven't seen
Moby live :(

Lately, it's been this:
Q: When and where will Moby tour?
A: I don't know, but I'm trying to find out. If I manage to find
out before everybody else, then I'll let everyone know by posting
the information to the list and on my web page.

I kind of had the same feeling. The album promotion was good but the
single releases in the US sucked. What a bummer.

Yeah, it seems as if he's been feeling down about it. I hope this
hasn't been too hard on him because I don't think the album was a
failure. I'm curious as to how _AR_ sold compared to _Everything Is
Wrong_. It's also likely that he's taking some flack for changing the
lyrics to "Revolver". :(

well, i know that one of the origional members from mission of burma was
really upset about the change and said that it went against what they
were all about.
i think moby should have tried to get a different song as the first
single. i personally think the lyric change is really silly and a
pathetic attempt to make MTV happy. (WOW! i just heard orb's "toxogin" on
this stupid late night news show...)
you would think that moby would be more opposed to changing his art for
some faceless buisness goons. maybe he's getting soft in his old age. he
seems to be making a few bad decisions as of late. i don't mean to
totally slam him or anything. i STILL like what he's been up to, but i
dunno how much longer i can stick around if he dosen't go back to being
the kick ass dance fast question everything super hero he used to be.

Well, if you go to :
http://tillbm.stu.rpi.edu/mp3/mp3search.html
and type in Moby.
The address for it is :
ftp://mp3:mp3@130.89.235.191/c:/liedjes/dance & house/
You're better off using the first address though.
It's an mp3 file by the way.

Look at it this way..he's made a much worse decision by making
music...Think about his ideology..and then think about what making
music...touring...etc does to that...Looking at it this way..I view the
whole MTV flak as minimal(Besides..Consolidated had a vid on MTV(at
least in Europe)..if that's not trashing your integrity..I dunno what
is(fyi..I really don't care if they did send a vid..they've admitted
they're hypocrites :) ))..Isn't Moby also bowing to the powers that be
by releasing all these singles in different forms? (ie all the
singles(and their remixes on another cd)..stuff on Mute, Elektra, Sub
Pop..) It can be expensive to be a Moby "elitist"...and each time I
purchase a single..yes Moby's getting his $$$..but so are the record
companies..Why not put ALL the singles and their remixes on a cd(or
two)..and sell that? Probably because the most you could charge for it
would be a double cd($20-$24)...and wouldn't make as much if you sold
them seperately($4-$8).

i agree that this would be the best way to buy his music, but i don't
think that moby has a whole lot of control over the market like that.
releasing singles and various versions of albums is pretty much left to
the record executives i think.
i would like to see him do something more fruitful with trophy records
though...

Most of his club anthem-era fans have long since danced away, but
Moby isn't hurting for support, "I find the fan mail that I get to be
really encouraging," he says. "Some of it has to do with music I make,
but a lot of it has more to do with my politics, with the environment
and animal rights. The people that write tend to be emotional,
intelligent, well-balanced and striving. I love reading it. I don't
want to sound insincere, because I'm not, but it's really humbling. It
makes me want to do things for them."
Like what?
"Like go to their house and vacuum."
Above taken from the AP article
Doesn't seem like he's feeling toooo down on himself...and even though
people are writting to him on the issues..wouldn't that be his ultimate
goal(and a reason to change the Rev lyrics?)? Why put your ideology
down on paper if you don't want people to discuss them?
More thoughts....

because to get on to the singles charts it has be released on a seperate
disc with less than so many minutes.. and there are all these stupid
rules... plus they are all done (singles, remixes, etc) are done at

Not all news servers have it, as it is an obscure newsgroup. It
was just starting to emerge as a place for Moby fans to talk, rather
than simply being yet another spam-to group, when this Mobility
list was formed. I don't think it has been removed, and it is
impossible to entirely eradicate it from ever server even if some
one tried. But it hasn't been used much, so its availability is
not very good.
