stupid questions aside.that movie "fifth element' sounds really dumb.
are movies getting dumber,or am i getting jaded?
actually the previews didn't look "too" bad for" the saint",but i'll
stick to the soundtrack.
i guess there's something coming up in dallas on the 2oth. is that a
live show,or a radio broadcast from somewhere/ is anybody attending,or
taping this? i have not seen hide, nor hair of Moby live as i do not
watch t.v. much.
one thing really pains me is trying to classify a musician by his music
on one album per se.i love u2,talking heads,etc.etc.i even like opera.
if moby put out opera and it was good i'd like it. see? it doesn't
matter what class you put music into cause if it's good your like it.
it's just being kind of snotty saying "i don't like it" or "he's selling
out" just because it's not of a certain genre. keri"if i can't
dance....."

something on the James Bond Soundtrack.
Moby and Filter... That could be a good combination.

Subject: (mobility) ATR and James Bond
I recall some early posts on some new techno/punk band called Atari Teenage
Riot...has anyone heard what Moby thinks of them? I saw them last nite in
Chicago (The Metro...3:30 am) and was amazed at the energy. I went to the
show with this attitude that "this band will suck" but left suprised. Alec
Empire is amazing with his blend of rapid techno with a Punk attitude. The
show was quick but I never felt so energetic since I went to my last Moby
show...thats how good it was. Except instead of raving, I was just trying to
keep up with the beats (240bpm average) and occasionally jumping in the
"raving mosh pit". I swore off mosh pits 3 years ago when I almost broke my
wrist...but I almost broke my promise that nite...
In other Moby info...the whole James Bond re-working thing...I'm wondering
if he'll just contribute to the instrumental sountrack or if he'll actually
do the title song during the opening credits...those are mighty big shoes to
fill. Bond films have this tradition of opening credit sequences and they're
fashioned almost like classy music videos with some occasional silhouettes
of "nekkid chicks". Although that hasn't been happening lately. In all 17
Bond film opening credit themes...only two have been instrumentals. And the
"hardest" tune would either be "Live and Let Die" or "A View to a Kill."
This should be interesting.

well, i don't much like AR ( i have the UK version), but i still bought
it and do listen to it from time to time. however, it is my opinion (SP?)
that he is MUCH better at creating techno than whatever it is he's doing
on AR.
he's not selling out 'cause he's always been into the punk scene, way
before he was into techno.
p.s. the message i just today recieved that i sent about moby remixing
david bowie...i sent that last week and it just appeared now. what's up?

it is completely different having someone remix a song (example: moby may or
may not have ever met the Smashing Pumkins, it does not even matter), but u2
worked w/ eno for years both he and lanois became as involved in the song
development as the 4 members of the band (much in the way howie b. is
involved in the new stuff)...i'm not saying i'm going to change your opinion
of what they are doing, but i just wanted to stress that the examples you
gave do not compare w/ the working relationship eno and u2 had...if they
want to do techno-ish stuff (which it really isn't), fine (i will say that i
don't think edge should give up his guitar and effects for a replica of liam
howlett's(sp?) keyboard setup),to me it isn't about the type/style of music
that matters, it is the quality...
for a semi-moby related subject...has anyone been able the get the disk
cd-rom to work smoothly?...i have the required hardware, it just doesn't run
so nicely...

i'm not sure, but i see many similarities between alec empire and moby.
i listed them here before, so i won't go into that, but i'd really like to
see the two of them collaborate on an album or something. they have
many similar views of the techno scene and music in general.

I'd said it was from Details, it was actually the March '97 issue of Spin

Q-Has there really been as much anger aimed at you from inside the
electronic community as I've read about?
A-Oh, yeah. I'm an utter pariah. You can't name an electronic artist that
hasn't said something bad about me. Leftfield, Orbital, Prodigy, Chemical
Brothers, Underworld. Actually, the guys in Underworld didn't really
indulge in it. But they're my friends.
So yeah, I guess that even after they mentioned him on both discs the
Prodigy ended up dissing him at one point...

I'm not sure how that would end up-Moby always seems to be rather
innovative, while Filter has always been a pretty shitty Stabbing

I recall when I met Moby for the first time back in '93 when he played in
Grand Rapids, MI...he had recently been on tour with The Prodigy and The
Shamen I believe. And I recall him mentioning he was at times lightly
insulted by both groups as well because of his social uniqueness in the
electronic music/rave/techno community with his Christian/anti-drug stance.
I really respected him for that.

Subject: (mobility) When is Moby touring?
OK I am getting worried. Moby told me himself (I think that means
SOMETHING) that he will be touring here (Chicago) sometime in April
or May, and I have heard NOTHING. I am getting worried. Sorry if
this question is redundant and repetitive, but I just think I might
have missed something possibly? Thanks. RRR

Subject: (mobility) Who knows... / Dead Man Walking
Hello everyone...!
Just quickly writing to say I'm sorry about the inconsistency in emails
being send to the list. Yes, I too was surprised to see a few emails
come through last night that were almost a week old. There is no
explanation for this. :(
However, as for those who are on the digests. I am working on making
them smaller so you can get them more often. I've actually been trying
for the past two or three weeks with no luck. However, no fear... I
hope to have this solved soon. :)
BTW, I purchased the David Bowie CD5 of "Dead Man Walking" yesterday
with the two Moby mixes. I enjoyed both of them and am happy with my
purchase. Nonetheless, I feel they aren't quite up to par with some of
the other stuff being released currently.
Here's the info for Dan's discog if it's not already there:
DEAD MAN WALKING [David Bowie, Apr 97]
UK CD, RCA, 74321475852
2 7:31 Moby Mix 1
3 6:00 House Mix
Cheers!

actually it was half of U2 that did the music (Bono and The Edge) and
Tina Turner providing vocals

I too notice a connection between Alex Empire and Moby.. they both go
against the norm of what is happening around them... plus they are both
socially conscience of what is going out around them and speak their
mind.. even if it means being disliked

Well both do dislike the present scene and actually put meaning behind their
lyrics, musically they took two different paths away from the techno scene.
Alex Empire is way more Drum&Bass than Moby. As Moby is way more
conventional musically(instumentally and organizationally) than Alex Empire.
Both are great though.

Anyone on here ever see the DJ Cake single? Does it really exist?
I have all the Trophy releases except this one. Does anyone know where
I can buy it? Thanks for any info. I've been on this list long enough and
still haven't read anyone that actually has this.
