they worked with him.. that doesnt make sence to me...
Don't forget that Eno also produced Talking Heads and I cant imagine

Subject: (mobility) Revolver promo facts
I just noticed something about the US "That's When I Reach For My
Revolver" promo CD (Elektra PRCD 9711-2). "You (Live)" goes straight
into "Whip It (Death Metal Version)", and the first couple beats of
"Whip It" were not played. It's almost as if they used them to cue
the track to exactly where they wanted it to start. Well, it's not
a bad thing, since it is just a promo CD after all. Just thought
I'd mention that. Also, "Someone To Love (Live)" purports to have
a track time of 3:29, but it is actually about 2:30, like the AR
"Live At The Splash Club" European CD has it.
And while I'm on the subject, I might as well mention that this
promo also credits Moby's live band. "additional musicians on
tracks 2 & 3: ali mcmordie (bass), bubba dupree (guitar) and scott
frassetto (drums)."
Anyways, that's just a little trivia...

the list has been getting a little old lately. it seems like there
have only been fights this last week+, and no one has been tossing around
anything of interest. from my viewpoint, no one has been enjoying the list,
and people are just get annoyed with it. everyone seems a little uptight,
so i thought it was time to ask some more stupid/silly questions! :) let's
lighten up and have some fun everyone!
1. if moby were an animal, what would he be? (please, no one say
whale...be original!)
2. what flavors of ice cream would your favorite moby songs taste like?
3. if moby had a sex change, which famous female would he most resemble? ;)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the tons of off-topic messages
and bickering the list has just seen happen in the form of successive
responses to Mobility's sad tradition of "stupid questions"? I'm not
trying to rain on anyone's parade, but stupid questions bring stupid
responses. I think that Moby is doing plenty of stuff for us to talk
about without inventing reasons to fill up our inboxes with 60 lame
messages per day. But then maybe I'm the only one who finds them
lame, so I'll shut up now.

not to be a party pooper, but i would rather talk about moby and what he IS
doing, rather than "what if" this and "if this, then what?" we just started to
get back onto topic, why change the current course?

It all depends on how you define techno. The talking heads where using
sampling and sythns in the early 80's as was U2, depeche Mode, INXS, and
many other bands of the era. Don't disregard a bands expereince with
electronic media just because they can also play guitars and sing.

The preview for the movie kicks butt. I love it. However... it doesn't
tell you ANYTHING about the film. I didn't notice anything about "First
Cool Hive", I'll have to pay more attention next time. Now look at the
following and tell me if you are still excited or not (don't reply to
the list). I want to see it but I'm not that excited anymore -
especially after seeing a still from the actual film that looked SUPER
cheesy.
***THE FIFTH ELEMENT
Even after French director Besson (The Professional) cut his 400-page
science-fiction
script in half, the on-screen result cost $90 million--part of which
went for costumes by Jean-Paul Gaultier, Madonna's bra designer. Playing
a New York cabbie, Willis wages a cataclysmic battle with Oldman, who
describes his role as "Hitler meets Jerry Lewis." And the fifth element?
It's a mysterious, life-giving force beyond the four basic elements.
Besson refuses to say more until after the film's May 7 premiere at the
Cannes Film Festival. "I just want audiences to sit down and go for a
ride," he says. [ WHAT'S AT STAKE ] Its visuals promise to be as
dazzling as Blade Runner, but Besson's obsessive secrecy could backfire;
opening May 9 in the U.S., Element will have only two weeks to win over
moviegoers before facing The Lost World's dino stampede.

Yes they have-but I'm referring to the "techno" style that the newer stuff
seems to sound like. I haven't heard the entire "Ultra" disc, but "Barrel
Of A Gun" really sounds like it. I'm not demeaning them in any way-I'm
just pointing something out. I've never been a huge fan (I only really
like the In Your Room single with the Portishead mix) though....

The Mike Flowers Pops woked with Aphex Twin-they still have no credibility.
Megadeath worked with Trent Reznor, Birmingham 6 worked with Zip (of BiGod
20), The Smashing Pumpkins got mixed by Moby, and yes-Eno has worked with
many, many people-but that doesn't mean that they automatically have a
wonderful working knowledge of the genre.
If they want to experiment, more power to them-but I don't think that
they'll do it *well* (I could be very wrong), and I might not like it. On
the other hand I might hail them as the greatest techno innovators in
years. I think that U2 has certainly earned the right to experiment within
the pop genre however.
I don't think I really have the right to dictate what one musician can and
cannot create however, I'm just ranting ;)

Ok-I'm sorry but like I said-working with someone does *NOT* give you the
knowledge of that particular genre. Marilyn Manson worked with Dave
(fuckin' rave) Ogilvie; and apparently they gained *NO* knowledge from his
years of industrial experience.

Agreed-But I honestly don't think that Moby has the teenie-accessibility to
gain mass-appeal. I play various Moby tracks for my friends all the time,
but most of them dismiss him. As longs as I can keep listening to him-then
that's all that matters....

here is a tiny article about revolver from the latest spin magazine:
moby my front punk rock attitude on his latest album, "animal rights",
but the former technophile is a self-declared "sellout". when mtv programmers
deemed the uk video for his single, "that's when i reach for my revolver"- a
cover of the 1981 mission of burma punk classic- too violent for us airplay,
moby didn't fight the power. instead he held a competition at his british
label, mute, soliciting suggestions for a friendlier chorus, and shot another
video. "we ended up using 'that's when i realized it's over, that's when it
all get's thrown away'", says moby. "but my favorite one was, 'that's when
i reach for my chihuahua, that's when he barks and runs away'". "the song
is not about violence" complains mission of burma's clint conley. "it's about
breaking barriers".

Hmm.....this mailing list has been quite complacent as of late.
Anyways, I just want to attempt to breathe some life into the dead by
discussing my recent thoughts about Mr. Moby. What I wished to
express was how dissappointed I have been with the man as of late...I
think ever since the release of The End Of Everything. I mean,
I may get flamed for this(it is stricky my opinion), everything Moby
has come out with since then has been, well, simply dissappointing.
AR was AR, I think I've said enough about how I hate this. Voodoo
Child's Higher, while some of you seemed to like it, made me fall
asleep, and the Lopez single was not much better. From what I heard
regarding the DJ Cakes and other stuff, they don't sound very
different. Perhaps the Revolver remixes are better, but I don't know
because I don't have it, or Oil for that matter. Little Idiot was
great, but almost just like "The End Of Everything" just without the
drums. But what I'm trying to get at is that Moby has seemed to lost
his "cutting edge" when it comes to techno. Everything Is Wrong is
one of my favorite albums of all time, but I'd hardly consider it
groundbreaking in terms of innovation. I'm no expert on techno, but
to me, it seems that the last thing Moby put out that was really
"ahead of its time" so to speak was the Move EP. I'm not saying he
doesn't have the talent or the ability to be ahead, only that it
seems he has put less time into the progression of the music and more
into emphasizing the eclecticism of his musical talents, and his
extremist lifestyle. Indeed, I recall it being stated on this list on
numerous occasions that Moby made AR because of his dismay as to the
state of techno today, and indeed that the Lopez and Cake singles are
his faculties through which he uses to illustrate to his listener his
opinion of today's techno. My question is: what is wrong with today's
techno, and if Lopez and DJ Cake are his examples of it, he is
exaggerating quite a bit. Just look at artists like Orbital and LTJ
Bukem and you can see how the music is growing. Anyways, if Moby
does not release an "Animal Rights: Mixed and Remixed and Mixed again
until the beats are so phat you can't mix 'em no more", I'm am soon
going to be one very dismayed Moby fan. Sorry for this thing being
so long.......just my $0.02.

i dug this out of last weeks Entertainment Weekly. (i apologize if this one
has been posted before. i dont pay attention to all of the emails sent

"Moby gives new meaning to alternative rock
have gun, will trammel
MTV viewers are accustomed to blurred brand names and bleeped words, so few
would be surprised to hear that onetime techno star Moby altered the lyrics
of his current singl, "That's When I Reach for My Revolver," after the
network objected to the song's gun imagery. Fans, on the other hand, might
not expect the adamantly uncompromising artist to radically alter the song's
lyrics in a bid for MTV's approval
"I have a kind of flexible attitude toward thigs," says Moby, who substituted
the tamer "Thats when i realize its over" for the original chorus. "It's a
shame," he syas,"but when you are reaching out to millions of people you have
a certain strange responsibility."
Compromising artistic integrity to reach a larger audience is not uncommon
and it's hard to begrudge Moby in his shot at mainstream success. Problem is,
it's not his song. Originally recorded by '80s post-punkers Misson of Burma,
"Revolver" was an alt-rock classic long before Moby got his hands on it. So
how does the band feel about the PC tinkering? "I have to absorb the MTV
thing," says Burma bassist and "Revolver" author Clint Conley, who last year
gave Moby the okay to change the lyric for a U.K. TV appearance but had no
idea the edit would end up on MTV. "I suppose I though the damage would be
contained."
MOB guitarist Roger Miller is less diplomatic: "Changing the lyrics to the
video is totally disgusting and against everything I believe in."
Another rocker seems to have few such concerns about the techno pioneer's
judgement. Axl Rose and Moby are discussing collaborating on Guns N' Roses'
comeback album. Hey, where was Moby when GN'R wrote the famously offensive
"One in a Million"? - Rob Brunner Entertainment Weekly #374 April 11, 1997"

If he did declare himself a "sellout"...it all depends on for what
reason..if he's sending a censored vid to MTV to make more $$$..I'll
start to lose faith in him...if he's doing it to get his music/message
out..Then do whatcha need to do Moby.

We all know he's going to return to techno (didn't it say somewhere
that he was going to earlier than he thought?)..? is..Should he return
b4 he's ready to please the fans that didn't like his new turn?? My
response? No...I'd rather he be happy than me...music should be about
pleasing yourself(from an artist's standpoint)..not the fans..unless
pleasing the fans pleases you. I do know how you feel though..there
are some groups/artists I wish would release a new album..but for
whatever reason..they won't..or it's on a back burner..etc...I just
accept it and find other things to listen to in the mean time.

Subject: (mobility) US Mixmag Article
I just bought the US version of Mixmag today and it had a brief Moby
interview. I considered typing it up for the list but it looked so
familiar I thought I would hold off from doing that. Do these questions
sound familiar?
Who are you greatest rock influences?
Do you feel the rock world is more open-minded?
What's the worst song you've ever written?
(he said "drop a beat", I love that song!)
Have you told the truth?
And if this has been published before... has it been published in the UK
version of Mixmag? And if so, are they repeating articles for the US
version... (I think I've seen one or two more that look awfully
familiar).
Does anyone know an inexpensive way of getting the UK Mixmag?
BTW, let me know if you still want the article typed up,
it's not long at all. (one page)

Hello Cats...
Well at last I have my paws on "AR". I was at Vinyl Solution in GR
Mich...looking through the used CD's and there it was! Far out!...so I dove
in and grabbed it. Actually I looked around the store all shifty eyed and
stealthed my over to the "M" section and slowly released it from the clutches
of "Marah Carey" and "Ministry". Yeah cool, so I had some extra cash cause I
wasn't buying it new, so I got some other single of Mobies (hee hee) think it
was "Into the Blue" Remixes....I was happy when I left though I had to go to
work and couldnt listen to them....So the next day I was at Best Buy lookin'
around and then I bought the Soundtrack to The Saint. Honestly I think my
fave song so far is the one by "Luscious Jackson"..."Roses Fade". But "Oil"
is pretty slick too. :P
Still havn't listened to AR though I have had it in my possession for two
days now...Friday. Friday is the day. My day off...I will let you all know
what I think.
Non Moby info...I am going to go see They Might Be Giants on Monday. Whoo
hoo!

Ok-I know this is my second post on this particular topic-but I'm *really*
curious as to whether there's a collection of moby lyrics anywhere on the
net. By no means am I a Moby expert (I've only got 13 cds-but I'm noticing
myself going *MASS* collectist with his work) but I'd love get my hands on
a collection of lyrics.
BTW-If anybody knows that there definitely _isn't_ a lyric list let me
know-perhaps we could start working on one....

I cannot stop listening to _AR_; every track just begs to be made into a
single. _Say It's All Mine_ & _Living_ are just *so* emotional that they
(for me at least) rival _When It's Cold I'd Like To Die_ for pure
intensity...
I don't have any Voodoo Child releases, and the only Lopez one I have is
_Why Can't It Stop_ & I must say that I really dislike it...Much too
repetative & certainly not indicitive of Moby's talents...

Oil 1 is definitely not one of his better tracks-but I like it none the
less...

I think it was innovative on a more spiritual level-the last half of the
album (by far the better half IMHO) simply escalates into an almost
painfully evocative experience. I'm listening to _God Moving..._ right
now, so please excuse my rambling...

Like I said before-I think he's putting more emphasis on emotion...
You are right however, in saying that _Move_ was the last groundbreaking
thing he's done-with the exception of the _Revolver_ single (part 2-with
_Dark_)...

I recall seeing an article in which Moby complains that most modern techno
groups dislike him-I think he said something like:
"Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers, Orbital & Underworld have all had
something bad to say about me; actually not really Underworld-because we're
friends"
It's not a direct quote-I think it's from Details US...

I'm not sure how well that would work for _AR_....I'd love to see a remix
disc for _Little Idiot_, but I know that will never happen ;)
Take care...

......regarding The Prodigy, this is an interesting comment because on
both of their LP's they have a section where they throughout their
respect to people in the industry, and moby has been in that section for

Hello....
I just finished my first listen to Animal Rights. This is my little opinion
on this piece of art. I think it is Amazing. To me its like Moby is taking us
on a little journey with this album. This is Moby hear him roar, through the
good the bad and the ugly. It paints an emotional landscape and gives us
further insight into the Man (artist) he really is. I know many people are
dissappointed by the non-traditional steriotypical Moby tracks...but If you
have ever seen him live...this stuff is nothing new. He can really "rock out"
and puts on an intence performance. Unleashing all this energy...it's very
addictive...I think the diversity he shows on this album is just what we
needed. I dont think Moby should be catigorized...no one likes to be put into
neat little packages..backed up into a corner with no escape...This opinion
from a person (me) who likes anything from Hardcore Techno, to traditional
Celtic folk music...(though I still shy away from country music and rap). I
really enjoy the "new" direction Moby is taking...though some of AR is not on
my top ten list of Moby likes...it has much to offer...something for
everyone. It inspired me to thow on my Moby T-shirt and unleash the Rock and
Roll Whore thats hiding within me.........
...I am Eekmaus! hear me ROAR!
