a loop can be any part of the song, be it a voice sample, a drumm pattern, or a
chord sequence. of course it could be many other things as well. this part is
played over and over, hence the term "loop". hope this helps...

that is a pretty good description, sometimes explaining something quickly
is the best way to explain something to someone. oh...! the loop was
basically invented by the one & only William S. Burroughs... thats all i
really have to add.

i think that it would be great if moby turned down this offer.
it would be bad for moby, but it would be good for GnR.
i HATE when bands have somebody from outside their band produce
their album. GnR otta do it themselves. i have nothing wrong with them
wanting to move into a more techno/industrial sound, but let their own
voice carry it, not moby's.

this is DEFINITELY my favorite moby single of all time...unless disk 2 of
the come on baby ltd counts.
i love the spiritual and the simple mixes! gorgeous uplifting hard techno!
the other into the blue has an "into the blues" mix that is really great too.
moby just keeps the lyrics of the song, and re-records the backing music with
all live blues guitar instruments!

Wasn't that "Into the Blues" remix done by Jon Spencer (of the Blues

Well usually though a loop is a sample and not something someone is
actually playing live... hence most of the techno rhythms (imho) are all
drum loops.. of course the band or who ever may have played it live but the
drum pattern is still looped. but a chord sequence i wouldnt call a loop,
at least what everyone else calls a loop.. anyways to stop babbling a loop
most of the time is a sample that is repeated.. blah..
Anyways i hope this doesnt spur a huge loop debate cuz then if u want we
can make a loop list!

i don't think so. on the cd single, it lists who did what mixes.
1 was by the beatmasters. 2 and 3 were by junior vasquez.
4 was by jon spencer (it's the "summer night mix").
but track 5 (the "into the blues mix")
is not mentioned, so i'd assume that moby remixed that one himself.

to add fire to the loop debate... i believe its called a loop because
(at least this is what i read in the Sonic Youth biography i read) it
was originally a machine with a short amount of magnetic tape (like
whats inside an audio tape) that was a complete circle. you would record
something onto the magnetic tape once and then the machine would just
run the tape over and over and over (like one of the 70's 8 tracks). the
term loop came from the fact that it was a loop made of tape... am i
wrong here?

i have CDMUTE179A, and track 4 is the "summer night mix" by jon spencer.
track 5 is "into the blues" and doesn not give credit to a remixer.
but i checked daniel's discography, and it gives credit to track 5 of my disk
to john spencer, so i guess it was just a typo that was left out during
printing. am i to guess that moby did the "summer night" mix then?

Moby
Born, Richard Melville Hall, the great-great-grand-nephew of "Moby Dick"
author Herman Melville, Moby has made a name for himself in recent years
with the computer-generated dance pop wizardry evident on the
critically-acclaimed "Everything is Wrong" to the recently-released
"Animal Rights," where the diminutive performer/producer/re-mixer takes
aim at choleric thrash ambient synch.
The first single from "Animal Rights," a cover of Mission of Burma's
"That's When I Reach For My Revolver," has received modest radio airplay
across the nation and rotation on MTV and M2.
Recently, Moby has dropped hints that he may be the chosen one to produce
the eagerly-awaited next Guns N' Roses album. Already, Moby has produced
and re-mixed songs for performers ranging from the Smashing Pumpkins and
Aerosmith to Ozzy Osbourne and Metallica.
Log on to Rolling Stone Online (keyword: RSO) Wednesday, April 2, 9:00
p.m. (EST) for a fun-filled 45 minutes and find out what vegan meal is
next on Moby's plate.

it has nothing to do with telnet...i think irc is what you are talking

ok i never was singling anyone out, i just said could we all just stop
emailing about a few repeated messages.. thats all.. its gets kind of
stupid when everyone starts replying to a message saying "yeah me too"..
You'll find when youre on a mailing list that not everyone's isp is great
and therefore sometimes repeated messages are sent.
Once again im sorry if anyone was hurt, upset, etc... Its just stupid to
keep talking about it, of course look at me im still talking about it, so
dont listen to me..

Subject: (mobility) the AOL Moby chat
What's up people. Just wanted to share some thoughts on tonight's Moby
chat. First off, for whatever reason, he was about 10 minutes late.
However, Moby was cool enough to extend his stay so it turned out to be
the promised 45 minutes. As all chats like these go, there were more lame
questions than good ones. However, there were some pretty interesting
ones, I thought. I actually had about 3 or 4 questions of mine answered.
As I type this, the transcript wasn't ready but I will give you the
highlights. He basically confirmed that he will be producing the next
Guns N' Roses record. He said that he would be coming back to his techno
roots sooner than we though. I wish I could remember more, but my mind is
failing. By tomorrow, I or someone else on here will post the full
transcript, I am sure. Anyway, I hope that this gives you all somewhat of
an idea of how it went..I will comment more about this in detail tomorrow.

That was a misprint. Apparently, they forgot to change it to
track 5 when they redid CDMUTE179 as CDMUTE179A. The "Into The
Blues" mix is the one by Jon Spencer. The "Summer Night Mix"
is by Moby.

There were (at least) two Come on Baby single releases. One is the one
which you have described, which is the uk regular release, and then there
was a limited edition two cd version that was limited to only 10,000(?) or
so copies worldwide.
I think that explains it, doesn't it?

Subject: (mobility) more Moby/GNR info
Here is something that I thought you all might be interesting in seeing. I
got this from Rolling Stone online:
When Guns n' Roses last took the world by storm, Russia was under
a communist regime, O.J. Simpson was earning raves for playing Nordburg in
"Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear," and Moby entered the charts for the
first time with the single, "Go." Six years later, Moby will help put the
Gunners back on the charts and resurrect arguably the biggest band of
the late eighties. "It's been a while since [Guns n' Roses] have made a
record and they sort of feel like a lot of music's passed them by," says
Moby, who will most likely serve as executive producer on the band's new
album. "They're really interested in doing something slightly different, more
contemporary." G n' R is also a shadow of the band that recorded the
smash "Appetite For Destruction" ten years ago. Original members Slash,
Izzy Stradlin and Steven Adler are gone, as are Stradlin's and Adler's
replacements, Gilby Clarke and Matt Sorum. Axl Rose, Duff McKagan, Clarke
replacement, Paul Huge, and former Nine Inch Nails members Robin Finck (lead
guitar) and Chris Vrenna (drums) have been holed up in the studio for two
years, but only now has this latest incarnation of Guns n' Roses
solicited a producer to help record what will eventually be the follow-up to
1991's "Use Your Illusion" albums and 1993's all-covers "The Spaghetti
Incident?" A month and half ago, Rose summoned Moby to listen to what the
techno star called "tons and tons of ideas but almost no finished songs"
and ask the environmentalist if he'd like to produce the album. Apparently
smitten with the punk, thrash sound on Moby's latest release, "Animal
Rights," Rose is hoping some of it will rub off on his band. So far, Moby
seems impressed by the new Guns material, which he calls "melodic and
emotional." "It doesn't rock quite as hard [as "Appetite for Destruction"],"
says Moby. "Something that I find important is that it does sort of kick
ass." Currently in the midst of promoting "Animal Rights," writing the
score for the Joel Silver HBO film, "Double Tap" and re-doing the
007 theme for the next James Bond film,Moby doesn't have time to work on G n'
R's album for six consecutive months. He'll likely hire an engineer and
technician to help run things and "come in once a week or once every two
weeks" for hands-on production. Six weeks in, with no formal arrangement,
the mild-mannered Moby and Guns n'Roses are still enjoying their honeymoon.
"The working environment is great," says Moby. "They're the nicest bunch of
people."
