Hello Everyone -
I was wondering if anybody else has seen a copy of the newest Alternative
Press magazine. It has a conversation between Moby and Glen Danzig which is
kinda interesting. I didn't get a chance to read the whole thing, though.
There are also individual articles about each in there too.
I'm just wondering who came up with this pairing...
Peace,
Brian

ladies and gentlemen, we are gathered here today 2 get through
this thing called "animal rights". electric word "rights", it means
heavy metal and that's a pretty old genre. but i'm here 2 tell
u...there's somethin' else..."the end of everything". an album of
neverending ambience, it will always be the one, day or night.
so when you call up that man in uptown new york, u know the one:
mr. everything is wrong. instead of asking him how much of
his mind is left, ask him how much of his kind. 'cause baby
in "animal rights", things are much harder than in the "end of
everything". with "animal rights", he's on his own.
the preceding was a parody of prince's intro to "lets go crazy".
i adore animal rights...probably more than everything is wrong.
but the words just fit to make me slander the album in comparison
to the end of everything. sorry.
and what's this trash about no one cool living in minneapolis?

With the release of Animal Rights, it's abundantly clear
that Moby
(ne Richard Hall) thinks everything is still wrong, but until it's
fixed,
you'll find his musical message in every section of the music store.
Trot up to the Techno bin, and chances are, it'll be there.
"Dead
Sun," "Anima,' and "Alone" bubble along in a nice ambient fashion
that
almost says, "GO!"--but stops short. Moby, thankfully, has learned
the
lesson that dumber members of the Class of Rave '92 (can you say
Pro-di-gy?)
have not, hinting only slightly at earlier hit songs. But it's just
that...only a hint. Animals get their rights, but at the expense of
the
techno sound that made Moby famous.
The Metal bin is a good bet, too. It seems as though Moby
never
fully recovered from remaking Joy Division's "New Dawn Fades."
"Face It,"
"Say It's All Mine," and yet another cover, Mission of Burma's
"That's When
I Reach For My Revolver," all reek of a bad Metallica/Stone Temple
Pilots
jam melded onto Ian Curtis's darker lyrical tendencies. When "the
truth is
not that comfortable" for all the disenfranchized animals out there,
well,
that's when Moby reaches for his revolver. There's a fine
psychoanalytic
study in there somewhere.
And don't forget to hit the Easy Listening and Piano
Recitals bins
on your way out. The lilting track "Living" drips with the milky
stuff, as
does "Old," a testbook exercise in mass-induced hankie wielding.
Then
you'll find violins galore on "Love Song For My Mom," which leaves
only one
question: When is the Precious Moments Moby due at the Hallmark
store?
While a friend described Animal Rights as schizofrenic, I
might
choose paranoid; Moby seems so afraid that he can't change the world
with
one kind of music that he'll try ten. Either way, Moby may soon be
prime
for a musical reality check.
In a nutshell: Time for a baboon heart transplant, Mr.
Moby.
i think my favorite line had to be the one about the precious
moments moby.
i could picture that, and it just made me laugh.

id like to say that i find this rewiew to be wrong in so many ways. i am
offended with how the reviewer used Ian Curis as a negative comparison. I
don't understand where he got that comparison... new Moby music has a lot
more energy than Joy Division every did. the vocals on "Animal Rights" do
not sound dark to me.... & "...Rech For My Revolver" does not remind me of
Metallica or Stone Temple Pilots. this review seems to be written by a
very closed minded person who listened to this album once & then judged
it.
well, thats all i have to say right now... i had to say something when i
read the Ian Curtis/ Joy Division slam.

I wonder how many times they listen to a certain album before they
review it...For me I NEVER pass judgement on an album till I've heard
it at least 3 or more times..I have to be in a certain mood to listen
to certain types of music(for example..I don't think I could listen to
AR 5 minutes after I just woke up..unless I'm late for class/work :)

Heavy Flow, or You...not LSFMM or Living(though..we're they on the US

The rules for where I work is at least five listens all the way through in
a week. I've fudged that before and usually lived to regret it.
Also, I got the Saint Soundtrack yesterday. I Love it. The Moby track is
great, if repetitive. To be honest, I like a number of the other artists
better. I especially love Fluke, Chemical Bros., and Underworld (even if
these tracks have been around a while). "Oil 1" sounds like a Voodoo Child
track. A lot of his techno stuff lately sounds unfinished, like he's trying
to stretch one idea into a whole song. It's like a demo or a single
sequence that needed a bit more development before he put it out. My
roommate thinks he sampled the female vocalist off a porno movie.

think the fact that Moby is still Moby has something to do with it. He
still hates bigots, etc. He is still vegan. He's still Moby, and Moby
makes music. He still uses fancy technology to try and get people to want
to move around a dance floor while still getting a message. I think "Come

No, Todd, you're not the only one. I agree that though there is a
tremendous difference between the exhilarating techno that made me
fall in love with Moby's sound, and the angry distorted "heavy guitar"
songs that comprise Animal Rights, they still have a common source:
Moby's heart/soul/mind. That is what distinguishes the AR tracks
from other rock music, and that is why I like them (though I still
maintain that Moby's techno and Voodoo Child instrumentals are
superior).
BTW, I hope that everybody had a happy Easter! And as you munch

moby's track freaked out my dad i think, dunno why....think maybe the "moaning"
vocals (as he put it). the duran duran i could do without and the superior,
but bowie's track is GREAT! even though oil1 IS quite repetitive, i love it.
(kinda like the 2nd track on the lopez single is repetitive...) anyway, for

Dead Can Dance are an amazing group-have you heard Lisa Gerrard's solo

Classic "cheese-goth" ;)
Dead Can Dance are an amazing group-have you heard Lisa Gerrard's solo
project? Really nice stuff...
...ok-some moby content...I just picked up the Into The Blue (remixes)
cd-the red cover one. It might just be the best Moby single I've got; give
it a listen sometime...

By no means am I trying to encompass the entire under-age crowd by bitching
about the shows; but the fact is that every all ages show I've been to in
the past few years has been a let down. I know the feeling though-I missed
a Pop Will Eat Itself show & a Pigface show in *one* month because I was
underage. AArrgghh....

Last chat that was held was on SonicNet's irc server..so you'd need an
irc program(like MIRC)..not a telnet one..You might want to ask your
local ISP how you should go about telnetting(if you want to)...Once I'm
connected..I just run a telnet program(dl'ed somewhere off the web) and
away I go.

With deadlines and all..I can understand..but I just don't see how I
could review an album after just one week(especially the ones that
don't catch me right from the start(MBM's STS and Moby's Ambient, for
example)...then there are the albums that I loved in the start..then as
I caught on..considered them "crap"(for lack of a better word)...2
Unlimted is an example here..but damn it..I won't sell the cd's..who
knows what things will become collector items! But I haven't played
the albums since about summer of '93 or so :)

I only made the reference cuz Manson did play here recently(and raised
hell of course..a bomb threat postponed the concert for 1.5
hrs...Manson's comment??? Something to the tune of "how christian it
was of them") and TS(w/ Dee) are playing here in the VERY near future(I
would go though if Moby was playing there...I'd go to ANY concert if
Moby was playing at any part of it) :) Anyone know of any tour dates
yet(other than the ones already known??!?!

I can relate to these sentiments. Often albums that end up being
favorites of mine take quite a number of listens before i fully
appreciate. & a lot of albums that i loved right off the bat eventually
fade away... just something that i wanted to say

i was wondering that, because i read today on Finnish magazine called
"soundi" that Moby is going to produce their new album .. it said that Moby
is going also play some instruments in some songs.. i dont know is that
right.. maybe guns'n roses changed their mind and Moby didn't produce their
new album =( that would be sad..

That was a "best of Stern". That show is three or four years old.
