i do so agree about the punk rock crowd thing, it being that violence is a
product of that situation. in truth, the guitar can be a very violent
instrument, but nevertheless it doesn't have to be a violent instrument,
thats the people's problem. And please allow us to be honest, violent people
listen and watch violent things, its the matter of the crowd, which is
exactly what you complain about. I have never seen a dance crowd get too
violent, but if he did a bunch of punk shows and sold some tickets to that,
then did a techno show in its place, you would have violent people there, and
a situation probably would arise. hmm..damn i cant think of any way to end
this one sooo... ill just stop it after my name

do what ever fuck he likes and he does.. so anyway, i like his old style,
but i also like his new style, even more, i think. new style is energic that
old and i am now out of dance music scene. i am just out of it, because i
have lost my like of dance music and techno..

the crowds at a moby punk rock show are different than the crowds at say
a rancid punk rock show. maybe because alot of his fans are old PLUR'y
raveheads or that they are just nice. moshing doesn't have to an angry
way to dance, and most of the time it's not (at least at the shows i go to).
now if you go to see pantera or morbid angel or gorguts or something,
you are going to get injured most likely. but a moby show is something
totally different all together.

punk rock if you can call them that crowds are a mass of disallusioned
puppets doing what they think they're supposed to do at a punk rock show.
i'm afraid thats not very punk. moshing isn't supposed to be a punch fest,
most of you know that, it is supposed to be a collection of flowing bodies
feeding off eachother to cool music. that is rad, not blood. i have faith
in moby and his shows that they will be a worthwhile deal. i hope to see
one. don't give up on the man.

I guess it all depends on who shows up..If it's all fans who've known
Moby for years..most likely they're not going to mosh..or at least not
going to hurt ppl in the process..If it's those who only know Moby's
AR..then it could be a bruising mosh pit...Since my concert experince
isn't that big..only concert I've been to that there was no pit was
Tori Amos(and yes it was amazing)..but I also LOVED the energy of
RATM/GVSB/Stanford Prison Experiment(didn't dare go into the mosh pit
though :) )...Anyways...I'd LOVE to see Moby live regardless of what
type of music he plays.

Come on now....I don't think he's "hiding" in his punk room ;)
I didn't like AR at all when I first heard it-I had to listen to it at
least 3 or 4 times all the way through before I could really enjoy it. I
went through a brief punk phase a few years ago-and I got sick of the music
pretty quickly. Moby just does it *so* well I fell in love with it....
Now I'd love to see Moby doing some industrial...

I can guarantee you that we'd all be in for a safe show-whatever genre Moby
chose for the evening.
The *ONLY* time I ever have trouble at concerts are when they're all-ages.
Let's see:
Tool, Malhavoc, Filter & Frontline Assembly were the last all-ages shows
I've seen-and I've gotten extremely annoyed with little-shits at all of
them. I'm not trying to center out a particular age group-but they're
usually the trouble-makers.
My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult, Pop Will Eat Itself, Kinder Atom,
Download, Tricky, KMFDM, Die Krupps & Lords Of Acid were all stricly 19+
shows and they were great. No problems.
My point is that you probably won't find a bunch of underage adrenalized
punks out to kick people in the face at a Moby show. I have a feeling
Moby's audience is a little more mature than that (I'd hope so at
least).....
...Ok, that's my rant for the day...

hmm, but that would require me to miss yet another preformance by a great
artist whom i respect and admire...in the last year i have had to miss:
pridigy, tricky, chemical brothers, the orb, and the live moby thing in
chicago just because of my age...by denying the younger audience the chance
to see him, moby would be forgetting his days as a youngun, and the feeling
he got from seeing his own favourites live.

i'm a 19 year old college student studing Fine Art & Art History... ive
been interested in Moby for a few years now... i own Moby,
Rare: the Collected B-Sides, Everything is Wrong & the new album Animal
Rights. Unfortunatly i have never seen Moby live. i like his older music
& his newer music the best i believe.
the other musical groups and artists that i like are Tori Amos, Joy
Division, SWANS & Dead Can Dance... i like a variety of music.
I dont know what else i should say for now... just hello

YES! all the b-sides from Revolver are terrific! i even love lovesick.
displaced is cool like now i let it go and love song for my mother, but
very short. it leads _very_ well into sway, though, i think.
but yes, every one of my problems is one of the most incredible tracks

that i have AMP info on my webpage. thanks to fishlips for the info
about when it will be on. my TV guide lists, though, that it's still
on the usual friday night/saturday morning at 2a EST, saturday night/
sunday morning at 1a EST schedule. they skipped AMP to show a beavis
and butthead moron-a-thon two saturdays ago. as for why they didn't
show it the next friday night/saturday morning or last saturday night/
sunday morning i don't know, but hopefully at the most we'll only have
missed one episode, and if they decide to be really nice, they'll show
us the one they skipped tonight, but i really don't know.
anyway, check it out.

Well, lets not blame Moby now. I too live in the Chicagoland area and
realise the latest shows which have become 18+...The Prodigy show has been
postponed anyway...when I was 20 I tried to see a Material Issue gig way
back in '93. They made me sit in the balcony because I was underage...along
with about most of their fans. Even though I had access backstage with a
pass and all, they still would not let me in because I was underage. Was it
the bands fault...no.
If you go to a show and you find out its 18+ or 21+ its usually the promoter
and the venue to blame. Some venues have such stupid-ass politics and
promoters owe favors left and right...usually the musicians are too busy to
decide where they want to play. I'm sure Moby would LOVE to play an all-ages
gig, but Dome Room (where he made his recent announced appearance) is
strictly a 21+ venue after 9:00 pm. Some clubs have certain alcohol license
related policies where they can only let people of age enter a venue after a
certain time. Leave it to politics and money to ruin an underage fan's
opportunity. Thats why I like it when a band will sometimes do an all-ages
gig for the early show and a 18+ later that nite. Alot of my 21+ friends
hate going to all-ages shows because they complain about the "kids, moshing,
etc." (they should talk...after a few strong drinks, they sound like they're
12 and act like babies). Everyone has to be pleased somehow.
It sucks, but when you're over age, don't forget the little guy (no pun
intended).

sorry guys, i know how much some of you hate reviews, but i found
this a couple weeks ago in a local alternative mag and thought it was kind
of humorous. hopefully some of you will enjoy it.
With the release of Animal Rights, it's abundantly clear that Moby
(ne Richard Hall) thinks everything is still wrong, but until it's fixed,
you'll find his musical message in every section of the music store.
Trot up to the Techno bin, and chances are, it'll be there. "Dead
Sun," "Anima,' and "Alone" bubble along in a nice ambient fashion that
almost says, "GO!"--but stops short. Moby, thankfully, has learned the
lesson that dumber members of the Class of Rave '92 (can you say Pro-di-gy?)
have not, hinting only slightly at earlier hit songs. But it's just
that...only a hint. Animals get their rights, but at the expense of the
techno sound that made Moby famous.
The Metal bin is a good bet, too. It seems as though Moby never
fully recovered from remaking Joy Division's "New Dawn Fades." "Face It,"
"Say It's All Mine," and yet another cover, Mission of Burma's "That's When
I Reach For My Revolver," all reek of a bad Metallica/Stone Temple Pilots
jam melded onto Ian Curtis's darker lyrical tendencies. When "the truth is
not that comfortable" for all the disenfranchized animals out there, well,
that's when Moby reaches for his revolver. There's a fine psychoanalytic
study in there somewhere.
And don't forget to hit the Easy Listening and Piano Recitals bins
on your way out. The lilting track "Living" drips with the milky stuff, as
does "Old," a testbook exercise in mass-induced hankie wielding. Then
you'll find violins galore on "Love Song For My Mom," which leaves only one
question: When is the Precious Moments Moby due at the Hallmark store?
While a friend described Animal Rights as schizofrenic, I might
choose paranoid; Moby seems so afraid that he can't change the world with
one kind of music that he'll try ten. Either way, Moby may soon be prime
for a musical reality check.
In a nutshell: Time for a baboon heart transplant, Mr. Moby.
i think my favorite line had to be the one about the precious moments moby.
i could picture that, and it just made me laugh.

Umm Cher..you can tell this reviewer that the Moby = Richard Hall has
been done to death by now..and that Moby's message has always been
diverse(just look at all the releases over the years)
MO> Trot up to the Techno bin, and chances are, it'll be there. "Dead

I'm sure Moby's happy with how "Go" took him..but I'm sure he wanted to
move past it..move on..Why would he want to hint back at it??? BTW..I
dunno about Anima(haven't heard it)..but I love DS and Alone. I'm
surprised the reviewer didn't rip Moby for putting an old
song(Alone..came out on the BBMH single) on a new album.
MO> The Metal bin is a good bet, too. It seems as though Moby never

Boy..first it's NIN/Soundgarden..now it's Metallica/STP...who's
next...Manson/Twisted Sister??!?! Since I haven't heard the new
Metallica..or the harder edged songs of STP's..I can't really comment
if FI, SIAM, and TWIRFMR reak of them...but sorry...when I hear those
songs...I hear Moby..no one else...Besides..I think those 3 are
brillant.

Seems to me that Moby accomplished what he set out to do..make those
songs heart jerkers...They remind me of EIW(the song) or WICILTD..close
your eyes and watch the colors flow over your eyelids.
MO> While a friend described Animal Rights as schizofrenic, I might

Hmmm..if Moby was paranoid w/ the album..he must have been paranoid
since the start..seeing how he's been jumping genres for years now.
With the EIW remix album..Moby(according to the reviewer's notes) must
have had multiple personalities..According to Moby..he has 6 different
types of music on that album.
MO> In a nutshell: Time for a baboon heart transplant, Mr. Moby.
In my nutshell: Time to buy a clue, Mr(s). Reviewer
Thanks for the review Cher.

It is on Friday evening at 7pm and another episode at midnight, MST
(Mountain Standard Time ;)
From what I've seen of the show, it is most unimpressive. The music
isn't that great, and even if it's good, the videos are bizarre, flashy
and abstract, and annoyingly distract me from the music. I did get to
see Orbital yesterday (looking very dull/zoned in the "Are We Here"
video), but no Moby. I think that maybe the publicity people don't
want Moby's older techno era shown, because they are trying to promote
him as alternative/punk/whatever. That is most likely the reason, IMHO.

Subject: (mobility) Another Review(don't ya just love em?!?!)
Moby
Animal Rights (Elektra)
Rev it up, e-boys and it girls, 'cause that techno kingpin is
back. And, get this: he's no longer techno.
Yes, Moby, that errant seed of the literary Melville clan, the man
who topped all techno fave lists a
years or so ago without lifting a lever, has edited out of his
life that of which he made his name. It's
as if his dear ol' great-great Uncle Herman had given up the pen
after writing "Moby Dick."
Moby may have forsaken techno, but he damned sure didn't forget
about technology. If anything, he
takes processed electronics to a purer level. Techno has always
been considered the punk of
electronic music: raw, fast, often angry, it's hardcore machine
music. Moby, ever at the forefront of
what matters most, has this time put the metal -- make that heavy
metal -- into what was mostly mere
machine music. Like, say, underknown but ever-influential
prog-metal maniacs, Chrome, or maybe
a post-techno-fried Dead Kennedys, the loud, hard stuff on Animal
Rights is as mosh-worthy as it is
mindful. Smart and snarling, it's easy to hear that Moby is
genuinely excited about all this rock stuff.
And wonders of wonders, he finds a way to keep the IQ quotient
above par without letting his brain
get in the way of the music.
But that's not all! Of the sixteen tracks on Animal Rights, eight
are either midtempo stompers,
including the riveting first single, a remake of Mission of
Burma's "That's When I Reach For My
Revolver," and "Say It's All Mine," the most Sabbath of the lot
and this scribe's choice for second
single, or speed-throttled scorchers, like "Heavy Flow." The other
half of this record, however, is
another dimension entirely, more akin to Brian Eno's Music For
Airports than Metallica's And
Justice For All. Some entries, like "Amina" and "Soft," are
sparse, melancholy interludes that offer
brief respite from the mayhem which bracket them. While others,
most notably "Season In Hell"
(after Rimbaud?) and "Love Song For My Mom" are full-fledged song
cycles of ambient
distractions.
That Animal Rights is neither techno nor home-page pop is itself
news. That Moby manages with
utter success to straddle abstract mood music with Manson-friendly
values is genuine cause for
alarm. Could this headbanging peacenik of plastic wonder be the
next Rock God? And if so, what
does that say to all those lonely souls out there singing in front
of their mainframe? That once upon a
time Everything was Wrong, and now, anything is possible?

Once again we have the Moby = R. Hall...what does this fact have to do
w/ his music?!?! Another screw up by the reviewer is the "Moby may
have forsaken techno"...maybe the reviewer needs to hear the latest VC
release..or the "techno" songs on the TWIRFMR remix single..sure
doesn't sound like he has forsaken "techno"..I think this is the first
review I've seen that the reviewer has liked AR...

Subject: (mobility) List Profiles
I have finally completed a page of profiles for the Mobility mailing
list. It is _basic_ and as the page says, "there's more to come". No
links are provided except through this email. It took me forever to get
this thing up because I was hoping to get a CGI script that would let
members add, delete, or update as they please. Well that didn't work.
So if any of you have experience in CGI scripting please let me know. I
think this page would work much better if individuals could work with a
script rather than going through me.
The profiles currently listed are from February when this was first
brought up. If any of you didn't send them and want to now, please go
ahead. Also, if anybody wants theirs updated or changed, please send a
revision. I basically did a cut and paste job so I'll be putting in
whatever you type.
I'm open to ideas and suggestions.... Should the profiles look
different? Should there be more categories/content? Change the page
set up / style? Any Examples? I will look at all of the suggestions
and add what seems to be most popular or helpful. I might not respond
to all of the emails but I definitely want to hear what you guys and
gals have to say.
p.s. I'll basically be away from the net for the next day or two, so
don't expect any immediate responses after this email. I look forward
to you comments/suggestions. Thanks!
