  50. you have to ask yourself though, what is more important to an 
  51. artist:  being artistic in something that she/he loves, or being artistic
  52. in something that she/he is good at?  while moby may be better at
  53. making techno, he is not happy doing it.  it makes him happier to 
  54. make punk and things, so that is what he is doing.  moby is not like
  55. other artists who are just out to please the crowd.  he would be making
  56. punk instead of techno even if he didn't have a record contract.

  59. i am really good at playing Chun Li in street fighter.  she is a very 
  60. powerful character, that i know how to use and win with almost always.
  61. BUT, i am more happy playing someone like Gen, who is not as easy to
  62. play and i lose with quite often.  i am playing the game to 
  63. have fun in the first place, not to beat everyone.  same with moby and
  64. the music business.

  88. I think Moby's musical transition (albeit unusual) is great! Artists 
  89. with such diverse talents like Moby are few and far between indeed. Plus 
  90. his personal/political views are sincere in a world full of Bush and 
  91. Marilyn Manson.

  93. To be quite honest I was never a big techno fan, but I did enjoy EIW. A 
  94. lot of facts from the CD insert on EIW were used in a 'zine here on my 
  95. college campus. Now with "Animal Rights" we're treated to something 
  96. fresh. I'm planning on reviewing it in an upcoming issue of our campus 
  97. student newspaper. When I finish it I'll post the review on the list.

  110. The dumbest thing about MTV making Moby sing this is that the Mtv 
  111. script in the beginning and end of the song giving the title says 
  112. "that's when i reach for my revolver", NOT the aforementioned phrase. 
  113.  Now, what the HELL is the point of this censorship if you can 
  114. freaking READ what the title is!!>!!??!?  Am I the only sane mind out 
  115. here who knows that someone is more likely to misconstrue a song 
  116. lyric as its SUNG, and thus Moby could have sung the original lyric, 
  117. and the written title would have said "That's when i realize it's 
  118. over"??!!!?!?  That is so stupid!!!!  And like my sister suggested, 
  119. for all we care, mtv shoulda just made Moby sing "That's when i reach 
  120. for my umbrella".. I would have liked it a heckuvalot better then!!!  
  121. It makes no sense, just like the reason why its being imposed!!  GOD 
  122. HELP MTV and the general masses of people out there working for the

  148. hello all.  i just got the ltd edition come on baby single and i love it,
  149. especially the packaging.  i have one problem though...i really don't like
  150. sliding the CDs out from their sleeve and putting them back in because it
  151. scratches the disc up....does anybody have any helpful suggestions, or
  152. should i get the non limited one also and keep the ltd one as a colectros
  153. item?  any help would be appreciated.

  177. My opinion on the whole thing is, okay i see maybe WHY Mtv/the record label
  178. asked moby to change the lyrics,  because on Butthole Surfer's "Pepper" they
  179. censor when he says "Shoulda been a better shot got him in the head".  Sort
  180. of along the same lines as the aforementioned "Revolver" lyric, so I can see
  181. where they are coming from.  BUT-- what i dont understand is why moby
  182. agreed. It seems like he would be the type to say "well take it as it is or
  183. dont take it at all"
  184. He seems to really want this record to succeed commercially to some degree
  185. - -whether or not that is a bad thing is a whole other issue.  I was just
  186. surprised by Moby's acceptance of the censorship.
  187. also, what is the deal with moby and his stance on alcohol?

  212. Ok, I'm not saying it's right, but they make those decisions based
  213. on $$!!  ("that's the way of the world...")  Due to "content"
  214.  (in this case song lyrics), an advertiser may place their
  215. spots on the network with the stipulation that they (the network)
  216. won't air videos with questionable content.  If they were to disregard
  217. that, the network could lose the advertisers and in turn, lose hundreds
  218. of thousands of dollars!!!  It's not so easy to turn around and say, ok,
  219. show those commercials at a different time because if they want to
  220. reach their target audience in a certain time period, either the video
  221. or the advertiser gets compromised.  In this country, the $$$ wins.
  222. So, they might be able to get away with playing Moby's uncensored
  223. video during AMP, but then only a small number of people will see it.
  224. Isn't it a good thing that at least MTV airs his video?  Maybe that's
  225. debatable, too - I don't know...

  228. with Animal Rights.  It sounds to me like Moby is trying desperately
  229. to sound "punk".  It just sounds unnatural.  I've been listening to
  230. Moby for 6 years, and this is the first time I've been disappointed.

  290. i can't speak for moby, but i assume that it is ok if
  291. used with responsibility.  i doubt that moby goes out and
  292. gets trashed on weekends like a frat boy, but an occasional
  293. drink here and there wouldn't harm anyone.

  314. u know..first of all...i didn't even get on to the Moby chat tuesday nite
  315. because of the simple fact that i am a bit computer illiterate and the
  316. difficulties of just plainly downloading some thing called "Globa Chat" or
  317. something....i did read the script and i'm sort of glad i didn't go to the
  318. chat and instead finished what i had to do..it was just totally annoying
  319. reading the same stuff and it wasn't even in an organized manner..i really
  320. felt sorry for Moby who had to constantly apologize to the people who didn't
  321. get their questions answered..it was just a headache to see  the
  322. transcript..oh well..this was just my opinion...

  339. Well, we do have our own room.  It just isn't visited often.  A bot runs
  340. in the #Mobility room on Efnet.  It's always there and it's there as I
  341. type...

  344. talks about it, but there's not enough interest.  I can never make it
  345. for the current time set on Tuesdays.  That might change in March when
  346. my work schedule changes.  I also use Undernet rather than Efnet so it's
  347. completely different to me.  But from what I understand, Efnet is better
  348. for most people.  Maybe I'll make a big push for this next Tuesday.

  373. It's funny though, Moby started out "punk".  We can't forget that.  He
  374. became popular with techno and that makes it harder to accept.  But I
  375. also think most everyone agrees - WE LOVE MOBY'S TECHNO!

  378. focusing on something different right now.  If he does continue with the
  379. Voodoo Child stuff, it doesn't necessarily mean that it will be

  393. I'm one of those weirdos here who like both the techno side of Moby and his
  394. current punk revival. I heard Animal Rights at Dome Room in Chicago during
  395. the recent meet and greet session and really liked what I heard...maybe
  396. because it was loud. "Take It" is amazing as well as "Come On Baby" and I
  397. heard the "My Love Will Never Die" tune from the website at Elektra. All are
  398. really good.

  402. Remember Ministry's old stuff? They used to be like this bubblegun techno
  403. (With Sympathy) then moved to the "classic Wax Trax!" industrial sound
  404. (Twitch, 12" Singles) then right when we thought they were a certain
  405. sound...WHAM! Al gets a heroin fix and listens to some Dylan and we get the
  406. other stuff ("Rape and Honey" on down the line...no pun intended)...but the
  407. funny thing was that the fans really didn't change that much. Yeah, they
  408. have some metalhead followers who despise their keyboard days...but those
  409. who were there form the start still follow because of the artistry behind it
  410. all (for those who would call it art). And you can still tell if a song is a
  411. Ministry song because if its feel. 
  412.  
  413. Moby is similar (sans Heroin and metalheads). I remember seeing him in
  414. Detroit (Senser opening, May 95) and one of his last songs was a crowd
  415. request. He said "Do you wanna hear a techno song or how about a Led
  416. Zeppelin song?" And a big part of the crowd jokingly booed at the Zeppelin
  417. suggestion. I knew he wasn't joking. The new material I can remember hearing
  418. at the listening party I felt could be easily made into a techno version.
  419. And I know he can do it (like "All That I Need is to Be Loved"). I love the
  420. remix of "revolver."

  422. I guess I'm saying that Moby has not lost the feeling that his songs can
  423. convey.  The product has not changed...just the packaging. My guess is that
  424. when he goes on tour he may do a half and half set (punk/techno). Or he may
  425. go all punk, but I'll be there. Fuck man, its Moby. He rocks my world.

  456. techno/ambient/term of the week and now has converted back to punk.. so

  551. I saw moby on 2-13 here in new orleans at a GAVIN convention show, it was at
  552. a very small bar/club and the majority of people there were totally *not*
  553. into the show. (moby was *very* sad about it).  He kept asking people to be
  554. quiet and listen to him.  
  555. But anyway...so as I was saying...the set is as follows ( I know because I
  556. stole it from the stage):

  572. basically all of the songs he did sounded like the new album, regardless of
  573. what they were.  He did feeling so real and everytime...as almost parodies.
  574. During "everytime.." he brought a girl up onstage and danced with her, and
  575. sang it as a country western love ballad.  
  576. It was a good show, I am going to post some pictures of it on my webpage
  577. later, and I will let everyone know when I get them up. I just feel bad
  578. cause Moby said after the show "It waslike having sex with someone in a
  579. public place who is completely uninterested in you and talking to someone
  580. else"  He was sad that no one really cared, but they were all industry types
  581. and only there to schmooze.
  582. But I'm afraid there was no techno goin' on that night my friends.
